Gagan Dhaliwal I would. I'm a little older than the millennial crowd I'm in my forties and deep throaty sound of the Mustang is the best way to go. I don't enjoy raspy. the active exhaust is a great option but if I had my druthers a Delta flow Flowmaster with the resonator delete would be the way to go with an H pipe. I've yet to see that set up on any modern Mustang. I had 2010 427R with muffler delete. Cats only. Sounded throaty....

I agree with the H pipe. Sounds much better than X pipes on any Mustang. Most people just lean towards X pipe because of the dyno numbers. IMO, this X-Pipe makes it sound like a deeper toned GT350, but I'd rather a GT sound more throaty than raspy.

I have an H pipe on my 15 GT and I love it together with the SR performance muffler delete pipes. Sounds awesome and It is very loud

acts2211 I also prefer the older sound for a Mustang and I got a 2011 Mustang GT with the Pypes Super System and MBRP H-Pipe with stock cats. Sounds very old school and throaty. I’m gonna add the Kooks Super Street Shorty Headers soon and I’m sure it’ll add to the deep tone of the exhaust.

Great comparison review. This and the h pipe. I like the x pipe sound. Do a full long tube header decatted with factory active muffler comparison. Really curious how the factory active mufflers sound with an otherwise full off road racing exhaust setup man.

Honestly it seems like you don't have to do anything with the new 2018 Mustangs Gts that come with the active exhaust. But after watching this video if someone did want a little more all they would need is this mod and their needs would be met!

Exactly, and if you were to add long tubes, you would want a new cat back with bigger pipe and straight through mufflers. The best way to look at it in my view is that for most people the active exhaust is the way to go. Yet, for most motor heads like us the active exhaust seems is cool in theory, but it’s not going to cut it down the road, so there is no point ordering it.

I like the active exhaust option- eliminates aftermarket exhaust purchases & D-R-O-N-E... BUT, I'm not yet thrilled w/what I've heard on the various videos. Perhaps the OEM exhaust sounds better in person? Yeah, it's louder when opened up but not necessarily better sounding or deeper & that's always what I'm looking for- old school muscle car sound. Still, I'm glad AM is offering this comparo w/the resonator in place & removed/replaced w/the X pipe but I'm far more interested in H pipe deep-throatiness. It would also be interesting to see if the resonator removal adds any power to the car. Thanks Justin!

Yup, 2018 gt performance package with active exhaust, if I bought this car and and its just a daily driver with some fun on the streets and occasionally trip to autocross or dragstrip just for fun, only modification i would do is add window tint.

Before purchasing a exhaust for your s550 mustang gt try my method for a deep old-school tone with ZERO drone or rasp. Measure 2in before the muffler on both sides and use a hole drill to make a 1in hole in the exhaust on both sides. At every cars and coffee I get asked what exhaust am I using. I get tone,and pops and crackling after revving...and it was virtually a free mod that sounds better than aftermarket parts.

Although it does sound louder with the new pipe, you are definitely revving it harder in every test compared to the stock pipes, where you are just blipping the throttle.

Not too sure what you're asking here. If you're looking at purchasing a 2018 Mustang that already has an X-Pipe on it, then you'll be able to put any kind of axle back system on it that you want. Any axle back system you install will be louder than normal though, since the original resonator will be deleted and replaced with that X-Pipe. If you're looking at a cat-back system, most of them would have deleted the resonator anyway so you will likely have to replace the X-Pipe that is currently installed. Hope this helps! -Zach

Getting rid off factory exhaust and replacing it with borla catback saves you 30 lbs! On a base gt we are talking about a weight of 3675 lbs with full liquids! A race weight under 3900 lbs! Now with flow form wheels and nice rubber it is possible to have low to mid 3600 lbs car with simple boltons putting down 500 whp!!

The biggest difference between X and H pipes is the sound, which really comes down to personal preference! X-Pipes will have a higher pitched and raspy notes. They will also cut a *little* bit of low-end torque and gain a *little* high-end horsepower. H-Pipes will provide a lower-pitched and bass heavy, throaty note. They tend to give you a *little* more low-end torque and cut your high-end horsepower ever so slightly. -Zach

I have the Borla S-Type axel back on my 2016 GT and went with the SR X pipe but strange thing is in the mid rpm acceleration it sounds like shit on a Bama street tune but when on the Race tune it seems to sound much better on it! These are the things you won't see or hear in these videos but just a heads up!

my 2015 has this exact resonator delete.. SR performance, and a borla axle back. It is way too loud lol. I sometimes start my car up on cold days at work, it shakes the building. I honestly wouldnt recommend doing both.. it just gets a little obnoxious.

Historically X pipes make more power than H pipes. But the sound is up to personal opinion. I am an X pipe guy as the car typically makes the noise it is running "smoother" . At least that is how I felt with audi V8's and Jeep SRT8's I've owned
