Too bad making it 5 pounds lighter seems to have cost so damn much, the baseline sticker price went way up .I did better than that on weight reduction on another bike I own by simply taking the center stand off and throwing it in the woods ( for free ),and just use the side stand.Could do that on a Softail too,if they came with a center stand .but i guess it's a good thing they don't cause even though a center stand prolly costs like 50 bucks to make if it was a Harley center stand it would cost 250 easily lmao.

They unavailing of the new line and giving them to millionaire celebrities. Not letting working class people who made the brand what it is today keep the bikes. It's a total shame in my eyes. 6 years later and this comment doesn't hold up very well. Harley getting rid of the dyna platform was actually a good thing, Softail chasis is far superior for handling and completely eliminates any issues with the death wobble.the m8 also makes way more power than the twin cams.

@boisedynaa dont take my remark as all bad though. The dyna does look cool as hell and has incredible styling arguably better than the softail in terms of looks. The issue was the rubber mounted engine and deathwobble. Harley had to get rid of it and its amazing that they even produced it for as long as they did. Softail chasis fixes all of those weakpoints and frame flex and is a bit lighter yet stronger rigidity wise.

I've never been a softail fan. My Dyna has performed every function I've asked of it from throwing bags on for several 1,800 plus mile trips. Or stripping it down for the daily commutes to work. It will run on road or off and it's still going strong with 132,567 miles on the clock. When it wears out I'll do what I always do. Get something cheap to ride while I rebuild it.

I turn 50 this year and just started riding. The Dyna was the only HD I was interested in as well, so it's not just the younger riders who are left scratching their heads. Probably a moot point. When I'm ready to drop that kind of cash on a big bike, it will probably be an Indian, anyway.

I feel like.... Dyna Riders be like: I ride a Dyna because it has the overall best handling and performance of all the H-D's. I ride hard and I don't pick my bikes based on looks. H-D be like: Here Dyna guys. We've made you something. It's got a bigger, smoother motor with more power. Updated front suspension. It's 35 pounds lighter, frame is 65% stronger and has a more modern mono shock to get rid of that stupid rubber mount and trans mount swing arm.... So no more death wobble! And just for the hell of it, we made the frame a little more attractive. Because, let's be honest. Nobody ever thought two ugly ass shocks hanging out on the side of the bike looked all that good. Dyna Riders be like: ...... Gay! H-D: Ummmn, why? Dyna Riders be like: ...... Ummmn, because I've already got too much invested in Facebook, Dyna page T-shirts?

MrOatmeal5150 FXR owners be like "fuck your counterbalances, we saw what happened when people tried to hot rod the counterbalanced twin cams". Beyond the marketing speak, the new bike still sacrifices rigidity for style, and price for quality. The rubber mounts were there so you could avoid balancers. Also, take note of the only "mid" control bike (low Rider). The controls are swept back from forward mounts. There is no actual mid control mount option. What they're doing is focusing on barcalounger riders. That crowd has money now, but they're going to die off, and the reckless youth crowd will have nothing invested in the brand when they come of age. This is at best a stop-gap to gasp for more old dudes to buy new bikes. The crowd driving the used Dyna/FXR market has no desire to ride a bike that can't be modded, and there's no reason for an aftermarket to latch on to these bikes. The people who want adjustable suspension and big power won't buy a bike with counterbalances and forward controls.

I just got my first Harley a few months ago, I went from a Yamaha 1100 vtwin to my 883 sportster ( which I do not plan to keep stock engine wise... ) I know the sporties aren't looked at like the dynas in terms of performance but I've seen some pretty cool things done to them.. I was all obsessed with keeping it clean and taking it easy for about the first week and then I just started absolutely beating the shit out of it... I was hesitant because I'm only 21 and have never spent so much money on a vehicle but then I realized how much abuse these things can take... I'm disappointed with the new line because I thought after the low rider s Harley was going in an amazing direction but I'm not so sure about it now... however your still gunna see me riding my sporty on 1 wheel and dragging around corners pushing it as much as I possibly can, wouldn't trade it for anything in the world ( except a low rider s)

The victory light cruiser and the Scout were technically almost the same bike. Consolidating the tech from both names under one Iconic brand was a good move. The 2017 Dyna Low Rider S was my dream bike. Until I rode the Scout Sixty and the Scout. Then Indian Released the Scout Bobber which was everything I wanted in a light cruiser. And out the door brand new, the Scout Bobber is 8 - 9K cheaper depending on the dealer. Indian wins a 24 ear old Honda rider like me over because of the price tag. My bike shouldn't cost twice as much as my car.

I'm glad I got a 2015 Fat Bob. Been doing a lot of customization with it, and looking at the 2018, it doesn't seem designed for customization. It looks fun for the streets, but spending that much money you want to be able to add stuff to make it comfortable for the long rides as well.

The rubber mounted non-balanced shake is awesome, and losing that is the most aggravating thing. I have a 2007 Street Bob and was almost going to seriously consider a 2018. But none of them really make me have to have one. Considering putting on some special motor mounts, by Big Bear Choppers, or Chopper Hauss, they are supposed to eliminate the "Dyna wobble", or tendency to creep off track in corners.

I had the chance to ride a few of the "dynatails" this weekend. I agree they are not a dyna. But I was very surprised at how smooth they ride. And the fat bob is a beast. I have a 15 fat bob, and the difference in the way the 2 ride is night and day. I felt like it was riding a sportster, but with actual suspension. Tossing it into a turn was so easy. The lean angle, is fantastic. I was trying to scrape peg and felt like I just couldn't get it over far enough. And the 114 power is crazy. I do hate that they got rid of the dyna line. But the replacements aren't as bad as people think. They really do handle very well.

Andrew Trapani Agreed. Don't even know this dude, it was just a recomended video. But the "critique" he makes is pathetic. The only point he makes is "Waaaaaa I want muh dyna". The fact is the new chassis looks very promising, the engine also. I mean, even this cry baby shitting on a product he never even tryed acknowledged the advances in suspension, engine vibration, engine mounting, power, etc. He is missing the point. That being: the 2018 lineup is an evolution for both the dynas AND the softails.

I would have never been caught on one, with the exception of a bobbed out sporty. That was until I stumbled apon your videos. I quickly realized that with a set of bar risers and protapers you can completely change the look and style of the bike. And watching you shred one just added icing to the cake. Lee, you and a few others have changed my opinion on Harley. Hopefully one day Harley Davidson will pull it's head out of it's ass and realize that. Keep on living the dream man!

matrox ooooh 35 pounds? Take the stock exhaust off of a 17 and you will accomplish that. Keep bashing millenials, they're who will ultimately be relied upon to keep Harley-Davidson afloat. I respect your opinion. You made some very good points. The fact that they even put a mono shock on the bike has me pretty happy. Can't wait to swap the stock one out for maybe an ohlins mono shock. Hopefully they made them somewhat universal so you can BUY stuff that isn't from Harley but I doubt it. One question before I go, what exactly about the old dyna died? In my opinion these bikes are similar besides the obvious frame differences, which seem to be an improvement in many ways. Thanks and keep on riding brah.

HD is not about performance these days. Maybe the first 20 years of the company, yeah... But Lee, man, for the past 50 years its NEVER been about performance. Its about the experience. Maybe you should consider... moving on bro! In any case: there are two types of motorcycles, Harley Davidson and all the rest. End of conversation. Peace and ride safe!

Vittorio Sergi I strongly disagree. The HD's actually perform quite well considering the weight, especially with the 110 and the new M8 motors, and the comfort levels high. Adding an adjustable suspension would be awesome for those who know how to do it. But most of the population doesn't even adjust the preload on the shock or even know what that does on the bikes. the added cost for such a set up would not be worth it to majority of the customers or to Harley. So for the few that want to be able to adjust the suspension aren't going to want to use a factory shock anyway. The are going to go in way of aftermarket where they can get a shock that can be built for their weight and desires.

Everyone feels uncomfortable with change. That being said nothing stays the same. You can either embrace change or kick and scream like a petulant child but it's still going to change. Maybe you should ride the new bikes before plugging your ears and stomping your feet? Or you could start your own company and build the perfect motorcycle.

Patrick, I don't think it's 'change' itself that's got so many people annoyed. It's that the changes have not all been positive enough and in many cases have failed to deliver on expectations. This is where HD has a number of problems, particularly with their new vehicle engineering, where new product is being introduced despite falling short in a number of areas.

Dave 646 have you ridden ANY of the new Softail's? If you haven't your thoughts are unfounded and just noise. If you have ridden the bikes and truly find them underwhelming then feel free to buy something else. Personally Harley didn't make and still doesn't make what I wanted so I created what I wanted.

Patrick, no I've not ridden one. I get your comment about 'noise' but it's just my opinion and fortunately we get this forum to give it. I've never owned a Harley but have owned many, many, European and Japanese bikes over a 30 year riding period. I have ridden one recently (a Roadster) and was really disappointed with some obvious faults with it. As for this video I'm just going by other comments I've read both on here and other videos on the same subject.

Dave 646 thank you for making my point. Yes you do have this form and the right to express your opinion but why do so before experiencing the product? Only sheep and the weak minded blindly follow others without first educating themselves. This isn't a $30 blender or a Yelp review on a pizza joint. Feel free to disagree about Harley Davidson's new lineup. But do yourself a favor and do so from an educated point of view. Not just a "me too" point of view. At least then your opinions will be one of substance. Ride safe.

Yes, you're right, of course. To make a really informed and accurate comment I need to try these machines myself. The only problem with doing so is that, having not previously been a Harley Davidson owner, I have no real terms of reference, no "base-line", hence why I'm interested in the views of those who have a more intimate experience of the range. But, yep, I really do need to try one for myself. Who knows, I may just like it. Cheers.

Your take on the new changes are right on target. Amazing to me that Harley would kill the Dyna when club bikes are so popular right now. I used to have an FXR - which was a fantastic motorcycle, and I currently have a Dyna, which is about as good as a modern Harley gets. It's disappointing to see them cut their own balls off like this...

And all that after going and shopping for a new bike. I just dont see the money when I look at these new bikes, that HD is asking for them, and seeing that they are not holding value like they used to. If the new shocks dont make my bike as rideable as my Buells, it'll be for sale, and Ill be shopping for an older Dyna to build. I really dont see Harley gaining market share with the 2018 line up.. Well articulated. New lineup alienates the people who are really doing cool stuff to HD's. The new monoshock platform is a good idea in theory, but they executed it amateurishly. I really want to like the new "Dynas" but unless they provide something better than this offering, I'm keeping to used bikes. Last statement: I'm excited to see what aftermarket products will come out to make these ugly bikes better.

I work at a Harley dealership and just like everyone else I was pretty upset when I heard the news. As much as I wanted to hate the new softails, after riding a few of them it's really hard to do so. The heritage rode better than a lot of touring bikes I've ridden and the fat bob was completely different than and stock Harley I've taken down the road. Both of which had the 114 which does make a bit of difference, but a couple of the guys were laughing when I got back because of the big smile on my face haha. Although I am really missing dynas already I think a lot of people will come around to the new bikes once they have seen them in person and taken one for a test ride. As funky as some of the changes were, I can honestly say Harley killed it on their touring bikes! The specials come totally blacked out, have stretched bags and some really cool wheels. I really feel like Harley was listening to what their customers wanted when it comes to the touring bikes.

I too am bummed regarding HD discontinuing the Dyna line. Some guy on another channel, Orlando, FL, made mention (a mistake I believe) the 2018 Fat Bob he took for a test ride was a rubber mounted Milwaukee Eight. He's wrong, right? The 2018 line is all rigid mounted, counter balanced mechanism? I prefer the feel of a rubber mounted V-Twin. However, I like the fact that HD went gear drive vs. a chain drive counter balancer. That is good!

I'm a Dyna rider to the death. Nothing funner than hitting the canyons and twisties and riding low, scraping pegs and pipes in the turns while getting side-eyed looks from sportbike riders. The Dyna was the Swiss Army knife of bikes to me. They were made to be cornered, but slap some LeatherPro retro T Sport repop bags and a fairing on them and they are ready to be ridden across state lines without causing knee and back pain. I've always hated the Softail. It's a bike that isn't comfortable on long rides and can practically only be ridden straight. I was pissed off when I heard HD was discontinuing the Dyna line and making Softails into Dyna knockoffs. I test rode the Softail Lowrider and was blown away. The thing is quick on the line, nimble, noticeably lighter than its predecessors and dare I say, has handling capabilities that put the FXR to shame. I was surprised, shocked and quickly became a believer. After hitting a few S bend turns on the test ride it was clear the the Softail rendered the Dyna obsolete. However, it does have downfalls. Neither the seat nor suspension are as comfortable as my 2002 Lowrider. The bike doesn't seem like it would provide the same comfort on a 1000 plus mile ride. Also the new engine mounts that rid the bike of the notorious rumble and vibration take away the spirit of the bike. I prefer the rumble, it makes the bike feel more brawny and muscular. This new Softail, though more refined is too quiet and too tame. However, I'm gonna get one. I never thought I'd say the words "I want a Softail" but I want one. I'm saving up for one now. I just refuse to trade in my Dyna as a down payment to get one. But heck, put some highway pegs, 12" t bars, a T Sport Fairing, and two into one pipe on it and I wouldn't ask for anything more

Lee, you hit the nail on the head. The Dynas were becoming more and more popular because of the stunts and wfo rides that everyone is seeing on social media. Then you get kinda starstruck when you witness it in person on the highway, kinda like a fucking unicorn. But HD were probably the only ones not paying attention to what was becoming the new exciting era of harleys on the road. And they killed it when they smothered their beloved middle child and came out with this "softail". Who knows. All I know it that I missed my opportunity on getting a new Dyna last year and now I'm depressed. Lol.

Been riding since the 70's. Had many Harleys along the way and other brands. I hate to see the Dyna line go and felt the same when the FXR disappeared. But, in all fairness to modernization of the brand they could be onto something with the mono-shock. I remember back when I was racing motocross and Yamaha came along with the Mono-shock on the YZ's. People were very skeptical at first, but look how many other manufactures in racing are using the mono-shock today. They improved rear wheel travel by almost double and started winning more races the first year they brought it out. Most racing bikes today are using mono shock technology, as a result. They all got on the band wagon because the technology worked. We all loved the Dyna and hate to see it go, but I think I will be patient and wait to see if the new Harley Dyna will prove to be better than expected. I just hope they will not price it out of the market in the coming years, since that was one of the selling points of the cheaper Dyna when it was still in production. Just an old guy's opinion.
