2018 Honda Odyssey Trip Review - The Ultimate Family Hauler

There is no better vehicle hands down for a family road trip than a minivan. We did a 1000km trip up the mountains with the kids with the 2018 Honda Odyssey. Couple stand out features we noticed, the magic sliding seats, the cabin watch and cabin talk, and of course the sliding doors which all minivans have. If we owned it, I think the Hondavac built in vacuum would also get a good workout.

Minivans are awesome, they get a bad rap and stigma but if you have a family and lots of stuff to carry they are hard to beat.

They kinda dont make any sense anymore unless you wana gut them out and use them as a work van. But otherwise you could just buy a large suv.

Well done. While 'regular' car reviews are good at delivering key information, I like the 'real world' tests as a nice change of pace/perspective. Your family looks relaxed on a road trip... must be a good vehicle.

over the years, i have a bunch of Honda and Acura cars, i love Odyssey the most and bought them since 1995, 1999, 2002, 2008 best handling out of all. This one looks very fuel efficiency, would even be best for an EV Odyssey.

Can’t go wrong with a Honda generally, and the Odyssey insofar as minivans go. They’ll keep their value and give you top reliability for years.

@@himanshgarg9194 Sienna is more reliable but Odyssey is more engaging to drive. And it’s safer too. It got top scores in crash tests. I found that ride quality is comparable to cars like S class or Lexus LS sedans.

After watching the crash test, I would prefer this Honda over the aging Toyota Sienna.

Why is it that other than the sienna minivans don’t have all wheel drive? Is it because it’s not necessary on a van?

A lot of minivan buyers are quite price conscious so AWD would be added cost as well as not as fuel efficient. Might be just that not enough people would buy it so it’s not worth making it.

Some say that they want to lower them again. The road can easily handle that speed limit, the crazy thing is how fast the transport trucks drive on it. Sometime, I can’t even keep up with them.

Interesting about the stats the past few years though...and how in BC, accidents are up. Although that could be more the volume that are on the roads. But too many people here who don't know how to drive properly...not like folks on your recent visit to the Autobahn.

Seriously though, we were on one highway at night and I couldn’t even keep up to some tractor trailers on winding roads. Seems so many accidents involve them and unfortunately there’s not much chance of surviving an encounter with them when they’re flying like that.

Hey, could you tell me how the braking was on your return down the coquihalla? specifically the long downhill stretch before the snowshed? I'm driving a Caravan now and it shakes when applying the brakes in that area and doesn't feel safe, it's done so since the vehicle was brand new. I'm looking at the 2020 Odyssey as a potential replacement. Thanks! Scott

Your braked may need to be turned. Warped rotors. Braking was fine.

I actually considered a Sienna but the deal breaker for me is the power lift. The power feature doesn’t work when you use the rear handle, only the inside button and the remote. Tried it for a few weeks and it drove both myself and my wife nuts. I can’t believe it’s such a small thing but it really was the deal breaker.
