26 MPG in the city is a very respectable number. I had a chance to drive one for work. It's my choice. I'm a Tacoma, 4Runner kind of person. Having said that I was impressed with it in some ways. Sub-compact has it's place and a rather big fan base though. I was impressed with how nice it looks inside, the comfort level and the amount of room for passengers and bags. It has decent ground clearance. It seems like it would do well with snow on the roads.

My guess is, the Kona will take sales away from the Kia Soul that has been around for several years now with minor changes. Kona will mostly appeal to the younger buyers.

I recently bought a 2018 Crossstrek. It’s a great car except for lack of power. The CVT transmission is also a weak point too. However the trade off is great fuel economy. I get 26 around town and 35 on the hwy

At least put the 2.5L in it. That said, I can't fully empathize with people when I have the manual. It's always easier to get power out of an engine when you're directing the shifts yourself. It's a small engine, but it's reasonably torquey and actually quite good for road trips, and it gets way better mileage than advertised, at least it does for me.

I think Hyundai has a winner on their hands. Obviously it isn't a serious off roader, but should handle winter driving just fine. It actually looks good in the bright colors vs the more basic colors. As a KL Cherokee owner I might be a little baised towards the front end design.

I agree with Platinum down below that the headlights & day time running lights are an exact copy of the prerefresh Jeep Cherokee. I am not a fan, but it looks much better and less alien/snake like on this vehicle with its front end than the Cherokee. Pretty cool review on such a nice looking vehicle otherwise. I do like Hyundais products though and this one should do well. Awful nice of them to fly you to Hawaii for such a fun review.

It’s done to make it fair to all journalists and magazines who participate in the first drive event. There are several waves of journalists reviewing the car, but all can submit their impressions on the same day after the program is over.

Kona looks good, but seems like the gas mileage is kind of low for a small CUV ?Yesterday I drove my 2116 Subaru Outback 2.5- 4cyl 50 miles on twisty Ozarks roads.Cruise control was set at 50 / 55 most of the time . Fuel monitor gauge averaged 36.9 mpg one way, CVT makes a diff ! .... Just sayin.

I like the exterior design of the Kia Niro more. But i think the interior of the Kona EV looks better than this gas version. Correction: The Niro is slightly bigger than the Kona since it's based on the Hyundai Ioniq. The Kia cousin to the Kona is called the Stonic which is apparently only sold in South Korea and Europe.

On Maunakea website they stated this: "Visitors are advised that only TRUE 4-wheel drive vehicles with LOW range travel above the VIS. About 200 yards beyond the station, the pavement ends and the next five miles are a steep graded-gravel road. " I don't think a Kona would qualify. I was force to rent a 4Runner and a Tahoe during my visits....

I'm not a fan of the mid fascia headlight placement. I'm glad the Cherokee dropped it. The mid level tail lights are a further miscue. Hyundai should find a design superstar for the team.

In the UK we only have 1.0 t 120bhp and 1.6t 177bhp cannot understand why you have 2.0non turbo with 148bhp it would be better having the 3 cylinder 1.0t 120 it's much better than 2.0 it's faster higher top end and cheaper to run Cannot understand the ranger that weather normal it was not even heavy snow
