That's what I love about Hawaiia hula - bigger or smaller, everyone can participate so long as you are willing to do the work. And it is a LOT of work. Well done!

jake mr honest that was so stupid. Hawaiian hula is one of the hardest styles of dancing if anything THE hardest style if dancing. Im a dancer and have been for the past 11 years
@ikaikaxkeahi5 жыл бұрын
jake mr honest Do you know what a Hula Maʻi is???? Apparently your just another uneducated tourist. Your soft ballet does not compare with the Hawaiian Hula dont even try.
@emily-jx7kg5 жыл бұрын
@jake mr honest hey, been dancing for for well over 10 years, including ballet. my studio offer polynesian dance style classes and they are very difficult. yes, ballet is very hard, I know. but it is just as hard and physically demanding as hula, do not disrespect polynesian dance. you have to engage your whole body while wearing a skirt that is pretty damn heavy while on your toes and bending your knees. it is incredibly strenuous on the body AND you have to look beautiful while doing it. it takes a LOT of hard work, dedication, and physical effort to master it. it is not a type of dance for the faint of heart. I have mad respect for these dancers.
@allison35215 жыл бұрын
For those of you who don't know, hula dancers actually always do the dance with there knees bent, so under the skirt their knees are bent the whole time

I love how it's so important to these people - it's a lifestyle. For example, the women all have waist-length hair. I also love to watch it because the footwork especially is so different from other dances.

I'm not hawaiian but I enjoy watching different styles of dancing. This is very beautiful and you can see how easy they make it look but it must take many hours of work and dedication to perfect each movement.

I found out not too long ago that the Merrie Monarch dancers are the professional Hawaiian Hula dancers. That there are professionals. And that the dancing tourists see at hotel lu'au's is the watered down version. One MM dancer said "..like Americanized Chinese food". :) What's ironic is....what foreigners know as "hula" is the "Tahitian" version (fast hip swings/female dancers).
@cerberus26545 жыл бұрын
The ones dancing for the tourists are professionals i.e. they're getting paid to do it. You don't get paid to dance in a hālau.
@ikaikaxkeahi5 жыл бұрын
If they are Hawaiian or local they should be the real deal, like all groups in merrie monarch. The white dancers you see at hotels with gineric costumes are a fraud.
@victoriablando24075 жыл бұрын
Not all of the skilled dancers in Merrie Monarch are technically professionals due to having other professions in their lives but nevertheless skilled.

@Karen Harrison it's more legs than ass. by bending their knees and straightening them, they're able to move their hips. And with enough practice one can do it very quickly. It works the same like Hawaiian hula, but much faster, with different clothing, different music, etc. (I am not very well versed with Polynesian culture but you should get the idea lol)

Very beautiful. I had heard that the Hawaiian monarchy admired her people and thought very highly of the people. She thought they were a very beautiful people and she took great joy in the people singing and dancing for her. I would say Hawaii had one of the truest and most human monarchy's that perhaps had ever ruled on earth. The Hawaiian monarchy appreciated the Hawaiian people and saw marvelous beauty in them and was passionate for them to express themselves in song and dance. It sure was nothing even remotely close in Europe where the monarchs had no respect or love for the people whatsoever. It is resoundingly clear, Native people have had the more beautiful, intelligent, and humane society. How beautiful to be Native, one has something to truly be proud of, a beautiful people and a beautiful culture. I would rather live in a world of beautiful Native people where I feel certain I would be free and happy, a fulfilling human life was a beautiful living reality. May God restore that beautiful truth because it is in harmony with all of creation. He said of each day he liked what he had created and blessed it so. God's blessing among his Native children as good, kind, beautiful, and true.

I think it’s unfair and historically inaccurate if you to claim the monarchs of Europe had no love for their people, considering first how far back various monarchies go in documented history with both good and bad rulers, and also the way you refuse to define what you would accept as a definition of love for one’s people. Surely doing one’s duty and making the lives of your people better is proof that you love them? Would you accuse the various Asian, Middle Eastern, African or Russian monarchs of not loving their people? Because you can made arguments both for and against those claims. If you’d care to actually read about it instead of congratulating yourself, here are a few articles you could stand to www.google.com/amp/s/listverse.com/2010/08/11/top-10-greatest-monarchs/amp/ en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchies_in_Europe Who is and isn’t native to you? Everyone is ultimately native to somewhere. A person born in a country is literally native to that country regardless of where their ancestors are from. Humanity is red, yellow, black and white. If you’re really into being Native Hawaiian, good for you, but that doesn’t make you better than everyone else in all ways.
