Major points to the camera crews. Brilliant views of the dancing from all angles. None of the other dance disciplines do it this well.
@Agfrokost4 жыл бұрын
Well, at least for ballet you don't get many varying camera angles because ballet is often meant to performed towards the audience, and looks kinda strange for other angles. It is cool tho :)

From age 26 I had the opportunity to visit Hawaii a couple of times and move the in early 80s. Spent nrly 8 yrs on Maui. Every time I saw the Hula, heard a chant, participated in a ceremony the hairs on my arms stood on end. The communication to the soul and spirit is stimulating and mesmerizing.

Yes, Hawaii is so fascinating, with such a rich and interesting history/culture. Sadly, it is pretty much on the other side of the world from where I live, so I will most likely never be able to visit.

This is one of the many things I love about the Pacific islands culture. It’s a story through music and dance. That’s why music is so universal. No matter where it comes from it speaks to the soul. This dance comes from the soul. It’s gorgeous.

In this day and age I'm sure its preserved in video, photos and writing if people somehow neglect practicing the art. And therefore can be revived simply by gathering and learning through its records.

It's basically similar amount of stress on your body as ballet. (Mostly knees and feet)
@dracosol44155 жыл бұрын
I dont get it. This looks a lot more laidback than ballet. Can you explain it so I can realize the stress?
@viannisimone15525 жыл бұрын
Draco Sol it’s a LOT of strain on your knees and legs bc their legs are bent the entire time they are dancing. If you look closely at the girl’s feet at 6:18 you’ll see that she’s pushing her feet upward. Imagine doing that multiple times while you’re legs are bent too

Frank Welch yes because when the missionaries came they thought that it was sexual for women to dance. Then in the end they just banned it overall.
@chengotyeno37006 жыл бұрын
Yes BlessedHawaii...if only people didn't objectify others; make their cultural expressions or appearances acts of sexuality. It's not just "missionaries" who openly comment on people being sexy in public and make the ordinary sordid, the ancient, natural and spiritual reduced to lust. Too sexy or so sexy... people shouldn't be reduced to objects. I agree.

Show of how much out culture has changed, kalamai if the people in there chanting and dancing are Hawaiian by blood which really matters!! But I meant by like physically, Hawaiian attributes the looks, instead we see more Asians and Filipinos and Hauoles. THE HAUOLE!! The people who treated our lands like crap since the day they came on our lands!!!
