I own a Clubman. It’s basically a Golf but less boring. Reviewers don’t generally get what it’s about, and their reviews are full of mistakes.

Yeah, get rid of that large circle head unit and put a tablet there, make it look like every other car on the market, brilliant idea. Maybe get rid of the roundish headlights and retro style too while your at it. One thing they might wanna add is a hatch so this way it makes sense you calling it a hatch😋

I bought a Mini Cooper S for my wife a few years back (not a Clubman, just the normal hardtop). It took a little getting used to (I still don't know what all the buttons do or how to change the dash display!), but the car has grown on me. It's always had lots of pep and what the reviewer says is true: you'll look down at the speedometer and be surprised. It goes faster than it feels. Style-wise, it's a good-looking car, unique in a world of square econoboxes. The interior is definitely cramped (probably less so in the Clubman) and dark, but it's comfortable none the less, and definitely has an upscale feel to it. The clincher is that the driving experience, the feel of the steering, the responsiveness of the engine to pedal input, the cornering ability, are all top-notch. It's not so much "better" than my Mustang as it is "different". And that's not a bad thing. I would consider buying one in the future for myself.

Enjoy all your reviews and the honesty in your point of view. I have a JCW and you're right, you have to look past the sticker price. You can say I am a BMW fanboy. I needed a daily driver that is unique and fun. I was putting too many miles on a M2 and this car just fit the bill. Luckily at the time, Mini/BMW were offering a lot of incentives to help the dealers move the 2018's. Being a BMW owner, I was given a $1,500 loyalty credit and the incentive was a $4,000 discount. That helped with the decision. Could have easily bought a BMW X2 for the same money but there was something unique with the Mini and liked the versatility of a hatch/mini-station wagon versus another SUV type vehicle. Sorry to see that you banged your head on the spoiler. Don't feel bad, I did it too.

It's a hot wagon. The Cooper is the hatch (and much lighter). Think of it this way though, how many AWD sporty wagons do we have in the US? Nearly none.

Sofyan, any Clubman can give you cloth seats. Minis are most customizable cars. In fact, you can also add JCW bits to regular trims

Just one thing... the hood scoop doesn’t have anything to do with the intercooler. Intercooler is in the lower grill like with the R56 gen, only the 1st R53 Cooper s had a functional hood scoop that fed a top mount intercooler, both following generations kept the scoop for showing it’s an S or JCW but they’re no longer functional.

Very good review as always but no way I’m paying that much for a JC Mini. If you want real sportiness get a Miata or an 86. If more space is required with some sportiness a Mazda CX-3 or CX-5. All less expensive and good performers.

The JCW is the EXACT same car minus engine, brakes and suspension and interior options. He also says " oh manual seats in the price point " It's an option.. You are driving a base model JCW. A van has rear sliding doors, this does not... while a traditional hatch is by definition a roof mounted hinging rear door (which this does not) the fact that it is a 2 box construction as opposed to 3box (engine, cabin and trunk) means that while it doesn’t have a traditional rear hatch it does fall under all other requirements to be a hatchback.

JP Dunphy a van has sliding side door(s) and not the rear doors. By your 2box argument, a Tahoe RST would be a hot hatch also, just as an example.

I just don’t get why they aren’t offering electric and cooled seats, not only at this price point but even if it was an extended options range akin to the bmw individual program... I want an Cooper s in enigmatic black with the blue Chester leather but nope 👎 not allowed. 😡 And while it may be picky but a lot of people owning the JCWs would like a digital taco with option to swap the speedo for the Rev counter (particularly when in sport mode) 🤨 it so close to being a perfect city car but not quite 😬🙄. And as you say, why not a circular tablet style centre screen 🤞

For this particular car it don't matter. It comes with 48 months full warranty, service and lease. In 4 years bring back and get another one. Just pay your $450 monthly. Problem is that it is not that much fun as people think
