Beautiful truck Steve. Think you can help me convince the state that this CAN be used as a non commercial daily driver personal use vehicle? Lol When I saw it my first thought was whomever was doing fueling/deckplates that shift was where is the deckplate(s) for this? as they aren't on the rack and probably looked at the build sheet on the computer twice to make sure they didn't miss something.
@album1837 жыл бұрын
I used to work at the plant, and have seen the one you are talking about. It was a joke to Steve. It can be done but the hassles, aggravations, and costs make it very prohibitive. Once you get by the DMV, you still have to deal with the insurance company on why you need such an expensive daily driver capable of handing out the kind of claims payments they really dont want to pay in the first place on non commercial policies. I`d imagine there would be a small but significant enough of a customer base for a personal non commercial Class 8 if it wasnt for the EPA & Insurance Companies

30 Years in a truck ,I've had a 72 in 06 w900 and a 05 379x Pete..both were good trucks ..i currently drive 2010 t2000 with 1.5 million miles on it and no truck payment ...i wasn't going to buy another truck cause I hate truck payments but wow!! This Pete with the new Cummings and disc brakes and air ride front axle has got me thinking!! I think if I had this truck ,my wife would kill me cause I'd never come home ..im set to retire on some land in WY but will still work 6 mos out of the year ,I can do this new truck if the payments will be around 2600 $ a month ,I'm guessing this is a 185,000 $ truck and with my trade in ,it would be possible to do a 7 year loan at 2800 $ a month ..man that's steep and is alot of money !!!

+Peterbilt Steve Love your trucks and I have always been a W900L fan! But I have owned one peterbilt and that thing cost me a lot of money. Nothing to bad just bad wiring issues. That very truck after I sold it caught on fire and burned up the dash and they re-done it and it is still running. I have saw a lot more of them burned so is this still a problem for them or what is the deal?
@SteveCarbone7 жыл бұрын
I have not seen an electrical fire on a Pete since 2000
@chrisguess11257 жыл бұрын
Well thanks for answering back Steve. Wasn't trying to be a smart butt was just asking but they are all over the internet. The only reason I ever notice them is because of the one I owned doing right after it was sold.
@SteveCarbone7 жыл бұрын
No worries, I know it happens. Its just not as common as some people think and 95% of the fires are due to faulty wiring installed after it was new.
@chrisgriffin51797 жыл бұрын
A lot of the fires are caused by people putting big radios, no, or not enough Ground wire, and rubber grommets thru the holes they drill in the cab, or double grounding adds more resistance, or just butcher the wiring... which causes most of all truck fires... If its not wired by a professional, or weather proofed you will have problems...

I will say... I like the way you set up trucks for the most part... but too bad you don't also offer Kenworth W900's. Through my research, I have become a Kenworth fan, not to mention a buddy of mine who's been trucking for 30+ years and has ran many trucks and he decided to go with KW many years ago and never looked back. I also like that KW sits up higher than the Pete's.
@SteveCarbone6 жыл бұрын
They are discontinuing the W900...
@TheIntelligentView6 жыл бұрын
WHAT?? Then KW will lose a lot of business, that's for sure!!
@TheIntelligentView6 жыл бұрын
I just called KW and they told me they are absolutely NOT discontinuing the W900! He said straight out if they were to do that, KW would probably go out of business. I also asked him about the engine and that I was thinking of doing a glider. He said the new X15 Paccar motors are tuned in and guys have not been having any issues with pollution control and really wouldn't need to do a glider. I know they will say this by default, but I can tell in his voice that he sounded like he's telling the truth. I'm going to research that more... but the guy I spoke with said ->Passionately NO WAY are they discontinuing the W900! He DID say they discontinued the 660. Also, in my research... KW holds their value much better than Pete's do!
@robertelam89536 жыл бұрын
Not true!! KW now has a W990 model. KW never had any intention to get rid off the W9L's. This is a very nice Pete however..

Nice truck but, just give me gauges, I’ll buy my own GPS. Had one of those in a 386, and the GPS wasn’t very good, nor did it make a good interface for my iPod. I always end up using the Aux input, as the USB interface is always a pain in some way, and Apple does a way better job with interfaces. One thing I hate about some newer trucks is that they try to make them like four-wheelers. That built-in display is one example, and I don’t need, or want, a ratchet on my turn signals. I’ll put it back myself, if you don’t mind, and a lot of times you don’t want the damn signal to turn off. And I don’t like controls on the steering wheel. They’re harder, not easier, to find. Toggle switches on the dash only, please, where they belong, and where you can see them. And most of all, I cannot stand shit beeping at me. I hate it in my car, and I sure as hell don’t want that garbage in my truck. I know the damned door is open. I’m the one that opened it! STFU. I really hope Peterbilt doesn’t keep going in that direction. It’s still a trucker’s truck for the most part. Ok, rant over! That engine is the shit!

No worries, the glider deal is almost over anyway and I think once they are no longer available that will really hurt their value especially with the lenders.
@stevegregory77317 жыл бұрын
+Peterbilt Steve I don't know. I tend to believe that it just may become even more sought after. I work for a trucking company that has about 200 trucks in the fleet, & our glider kits spend the least amount of time in the shop. Unlike our brand new Pete's, with Paccar engines, which are already nosediving with only 20,000 miles on em.
@SteveCarbone7 жыл бұрын
Very surprising to hear about the PACCAR, we never see them in our shop other than for service. I would be very interested to hear why they are having problems or what type of problems they are. With the success of the X15 this year it is safe to say emission problems are a thing of the past. You may be right on the glider value, I just dont see it but I am wrong many times a day.
