There are plenty of other tournaments actually, they're just not hosted by Pokemon company. The pokemon company tournaments are only about 3 a year in US, the NA nationals, last chance qualifier at World's and then the World's final bracket consisting of the players that qualified around the world.

While I like VGC more, this is far more entertaining to watch. Not only the game play and commentary, but just the reactions from the players and crowd. In TCG and VGC everyone is very stone-faced and everything's more slow-paced. It's just nice seeing all that emotion.

The competitive community is all centered around the Pokkenarena website (for people posting resources and guides), and it's associated discord (for discussion), so if you want to get into the game that's the best place to go. That being said, you will need the switch version, as that's what everyone uses. But If you only have a WiiU you could probably at least learn the original set of characters unttill you can geta switch, but there's beeen a ton of changes in the swittch version

Spiritwyrm k The thing is that designing the characters for this game is not that easy without breaking balance. The last two characters turned out to be really extreme (Aegislash being almost broken and Blastoise being pretty bad). And over that, every character does it's own thing, so making a new character that doesn't overshadow another of the same archetype ( say 2 rush down characters).

This isn't like the Dragon Ball or Naruto games where they can just add 50 characters, each character has a completely unique playstyle and movelist witth dozens of moves, and they need to be balanced for competiitive play. Compared to other competitve fighters, Pokken has a pretty decent amount of characters.

If you ask me, there is enough diversity. This is the kinda game where you really should choose one or two Pokemon to get really good with. Seems to me you want it to become more like smash by adding so many characters. Keep in mind it’s a relatively new fighting game, so they need to start out small and build up over time.

There's enough diversity as it is, already. The only thing we really want for the roster is a Normal type and a Rock Type, so we have every typing available as a fighter.

Pokken is such an awesome game. Sadly, I feel like skill based gameplay and competitive fighting games just don't appeal to and go over the heads of your average Nintendo and Pokemon fans. You'd think that with an IP as big as Pokemon, the game would be making bigger waves. Maybe it would if it went multi console or had better support from Nintendo.

The main RPG's? They have to be one of the least skill required and casual games of all time. Their audience clearly hasn't shown as much interest in Pokken as people wish they would. Maybe if their was more compelling single player content more would be drawn in, but I think inherently they just aren't interested in a technical fighting game.

Joseph Abdilla The games are skill based. You have to make a team with IVs and EVs. A well rounded team. You have to choose the nature of your pokemon, breed the right ability. You also have to learn how to combat other teams. The pokemon game has a large competitive scene. The main game is for kids.

I'm talking about the actual games, not the competitive community who makes it into a balanced skill based experience. 99% of fans just play the RPG. The base RPG that people play is perhaps the most "braindead" casual RPG on the market. You "build a diverse team of Pokemon to combat any team". Then you walk to the next boss battle, and proceed to faceroll every single person in the building because they all share one weakness. The newer games make it even easier with overpowered moves, dumb ai, and telling you weaknesses. You have to play through the entire game before you get one singular battle against a diverse team of six. The game never bothers to really test the players skill. And even then, the potential skill is question is decision making with unlimited time in a game where you can grind stats anyways. It's very different from the technical skill and reactions in a fighting game.

Joseph Abdilla Oh. I thought you were talking about the competitive scene. You also have to remember Pokken is also not a very hard game either. Its the nature of the company. The big brands are not going to be too hard because they are marketed to children. Pokemon is just trying to bring in a younger audience. I want a harder game, but the main focus of pokemon is the competitive scene. Fighting friends. You see that in the older games too.
