Brandon I get you. The reason they don't use forged is it's cost, also the tolerances must be higher, also. Not as good for daily driving. The heat expansion of forged is more. I believe they use hypereutectic pistons. It's better than standard "cast pistons" but not as good as "forged".

Dave Taylor in NZ, when the Hawk Eye came along (version 10), that's where it started to go downhill imo (for the NZ New ones only). They got the 2.5L instead of the 2.0L. The JDM continued to get the 2.0L (they get no 2.5L). And as imports, those cars are 10x better. Higher revving, stronger engine being the best thing. I do agree that they do need to remake the car entirely. But this 2018 model is the final year of this power train.

With the Bilstein struts it’d be that it’s the first time used in an Impreza in the US. Bilsteins have consistently been fitted to performance Legacys over the years, the only Impreza that springs to mind that has used Bilsteins before is the 22B, with the ‘B’ standing for Bilstein.

If you're a huge Subaru fan I think it's a good investment. Sure you can take out your spare tire and do some tires and suspenions upgrades on a regular STI and do some more weight reduction, add a functional wing if you want, but this one has all that on it already, so if you're going to track it and want to do maybe mostly chassis upgrades but not engine internals atleast not for quite a few years, I would think this would be great for that. You get reinforced pistons which would hopefully take a tune from an Accessport with no problems and with some certain upgrades in the intake and exhaust and suspension this could be a really cool less common STI. Again I know 50k is a lot for this type of car, but in some other news, 40k is a lot for this type of car!! Most STI owners buying new are paying roughly 40 grand so if they're a huge Subaru Fanatic I don't think the extra 10k is going to really bother them especially since financing dulls the pain a little by spreading out the expense over time. Regardless I wish they made a truly hopped up version over stock, with say forged internals and 50bhp over stock and 50 or so ft lbs of torque more over stock, with the rest of this stuff and even an active exhaust or something and with some really limited edition body work. Still I kinda like it. But I've loved subies since I sold my built 94 Talon Tsi (Awd model) for my GC Impreza RS that finally has a proper EJ207 swap with all STI drivetrain in it that is now running equal length turbo manifold and around 400hp at the wheels. I love the car now. Didn't want to go overboard other than upgraded pistons rods and bearings to help longevity and arp studs for the entire engine, so i kept that simple. The whole thing took me nearly 4 years to put together though.

there was a time when those numbers were amazing, for a 35K price range car, but times have changed now where even camrys and accords of these worlds are in 300 HP range. Subaru needs to up their game, at-least for the STI, if not for the base WRX. Why is the car so loud when going at higher speeds? Meaning tire/wheel noise? Sounds like a thumping sound. The only reason why i'm asking is because i test drove an STI stock, and it was the same thing. As soon as it hit 70, i heard some strange thumping bass sound, as if the wheel bearings were no good or something. The car was brand new and i asked the salesman about that and he said it was the tires. Tires were dunlop. I had dunlop tires before on previous cars, i never ever had that sound. I guess it's a subaru thing?

JJ Pablo The reason why the STi still runs the EJ257 is because when this latest generation of Impreza-based STi was released the FA20DIT was still in its infancy and Subaru was still using the STi as a motorsports test mule. They may not be in WRC any more but they are still very much involved as a make in rallying across the world and so they needed an engine that had a very wide aftermarket catalogue which, of course, is the EJ.

I have to see the track times to see if any of the parts are worth it. In the past a STI Spec C can outperform a regular STI by about 3-4 secs on a track and beats the Evo GSR of that same gen by 1-2 secs. The Type RA in the past are basically Spec C with additional parts similar to the S206-08 series. $50k isn't bad when S208 in Japan costs about $60k and those do run outperform cars that have over 100HP simply because the handling since they are the equivalent of Type Rs, track ready cars. All Production Rally Subarus use Spec C chasis. So I would imagine these Type RA would be hot commodity in the Rally scene.

Subaru. Shit, we're overpricing our cars and under powering them and asking way too much for limited and editions with little to no power added. So yeah this is an over priced car with little to no power increase and using "limited edition" label and charging 50k for it. If it was a little bit more than a normal STI that would be cool but I am not sure many people beyond true enthusiasts and collectors will really give a damn about the changes nor want to spend the extra on the STI RA. Good review but 50k for an STI Special edition with little to no power increase is dumb.

Still not forged pistons. excellent. RIP ring lands. Weight reduction consisting of removing my spare and tools(but done expertly at the zero landfill plant by professionals) costs how much, I wonder? Lolz scooby-roo

HipsterCarpenter probably never gonna happen and sadly if they ever do the price tag would be close to 70k
@HipsterCarpenter6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I don't think they would every do something like that. I'd just like to see them really push the STI to something special that I couldn't afford.

I just want them to close the block and fucking forge the got damn internals.

I tried to find the auto tempest app on my iPhone I guess they don’t have one
@autotempest6 жыл бұрын
No, we've decided to focus on our website, so we can rapidly improve it and have it be equally useful on desktop or mobile. The site is fully responsive, so it should feel fairly similar to using an app (and if you like, you can add it as an icon on your home screen!)

This is supposed to be track version, yet understeers? Might as well remove rear wing, it isn't helping.

2003 spec c ra was 38000usd / 4,141,587 million yen in Japan brand new
@revengefullobster45246 жыл бұрын
For that cost (actually a bit less), I built my 2015 STI which has 470whp with 505 torque, better brakes and suspension and sounds a lot better. It still understeers a lot, but I'm pretty sure I'd run circles around this thing at the track or any place else.

@autotempest6 жыл бұрын
We're planning to expand to the UK someday, but have a bunch of improvements we want to make to the current version first!

$50K for an STI??? If you want a super Subaru, why not spend $15k on a hawkeye and put $35k in mods into it? You could have a 550+hp MONSTER.

the one thing I dont understand is why they took the fog lights out of the new sti. what kind of rally car doesnt have fog lights?
@elvay68476 жыл бұрын
It's a street car...
@zxibit30816 жыл бұрын
yes and nearly every street car has fog lights in the bumper. I just think its ironic that a street car thats based off of a rally car does not.
@elvay68476 жыл бұрын
I just assumed you were another goof who looks at a production WRX and says "uhh rally car" when it's clearly not. Anyway, I think they scrapped the fog lights in lieu of cooling ducts. And only about 1/4 of the area is actually used, so the rest is just that ugly plastic mesh.

@bobbyleescott6 жыл бұрын
that is true, however I've already owned both base chassis(sti and c6z) Its just a matter of which special edition I want. Special edition Sube's hold their value extremely well, sube's in general do any way. I just sold my 04 for 18k.
