I have a 2018 Toyota Camry with the whole CAN 2 network going down intermittently. I've worked on it several times and could not find the issue. I told the customer I would give it 1 more shot; if I can't figure it out, I will cut my losses and give up. Hope you enjoy!

Wow that was an ass kicker LOL I wouldn't be able to sleep without finding the actual wiring fault 😂 Is something aftermarket spliced into that network? Seriously nice job man. Shows the struggles of the mobile tech working under time pressure 💪

I assume something was still wired into the network, but I could not find it. There was a camera in the front and rear that I didn't fully trace. The customer bought the car like this and didn't know what was wired in.

@@advancedleveldiagnostics Yeah maybe the OBD connector was supposed to grab the speed signal for the camera, but it only talks to the gateway so they spliced directly into CAN2? What a weird car!

Great job, intermittents take several times longer to fix and add significantly to the hours that customers should be informed before starting the job then I think you Should be paid accordingly. It doesn’t feel fair to charge the customer for a non fix before the issue is found but that’s the way it has to be.

Nice trick with pasting the diagrams to One Note. I like using the interactive diagrams in Toyota TIS. This cuts down my time with navigating through the junctions and connectors. I hope you charge accordingly, there's not many guys that can diagnose this problem.

That is huge problem to many shop, working with intermittent problems, especially comunication faults.Noone wants to touch it anymore, many shops try and refuse it, customer pays for that and your mechanichs ego says " I will give it a shot". Nice job, you fixed it(found the problem)so you bill for it. Nobody else wanted to deal with it and you fixed it. So get paid. I would think that somewhere in the harness one or both of those wires rubbed through on something.

I bet they are shorting to each other, the chances they are shorting in the exact same way such that they are still mirror images to each other to a third object is exceedingly low.

Your videos help so much for someone like me that still feels very behind in terms of advanced automotive diagnostics. I had a question that I was wondering if you could answer. When you were doing resistance checks with your multimeter I understand you should be seeing OL when testing circuit to ground to verify the circuit is not shorted, but when you tested to see if the wires were shorted together and got 1.7million ohms, shouldn't you have had OL instead if its actually not shorted together because they are separate wires? And if not, then where did the 1.7 million ohms come from? Sorry if my question doesn't make sense. and thanks again for your videos! edit: Nevermind, I figured out in lower voltage systems if you are getting mega ohms it is considered OL. Good to know

Just splice the wires, and send the car over the auction block. When people start splicing in after market stuff into the CAN, it can be a pain to remove. Had a breathalyzer interlock botch job cause can wires to corrode and cause all kinds of intermittent CAN comm issues and they get sneaky to prevent someone from disabling it.

@@abdul-kabiralegbe5660 They have a tube you blow in periodically with a camera looking at you all the time and it makes you pull over and blow into it. This is to ensure you don't have a buddy riding along to blow for you. It disables the ignition switch but it's wired into the main harnesses and connects into the can bus. I think this is to block the network in case you decide to hot wire your rig. If you fail to blow into it, it will disable your car.

Seems like that tiny run of wires might have been getting some RF interference somewhere or something weird. There is no evidence to believe that the wiring diagram is wrong because everything else was consistent to the diagram.

I started working on cars as a hobby around 6 years ago and did all the repairs for friends. Then, I became a mobile mechanic and really enjoyed diagnostics. I watched every @scannerdanner video and got the foundation for electrical diagnostics. I also subscribed to every training site I can find. Almost 3 Years ago, I started doing diagnostics for Shops exclusively, and that is the best possible training you can get.

Looks like you found out what was going wrong but you need to take it a bit slower and explain what your doing. Cutting the wire was not necessary. You could have removed the pins from the connector and tested it that way. If your deal is to find the issue and tell the garage owner to chase the wires to find the actual problem fine. If you have the fix the problem now its up to you to find the cause of the problem. Main thing I find watching your videos is you really go too fast without explaining what you are doing. Looks like you understand what you're doing but if you're going to do videos you need to slow down.
