When you put that oil drain tube in the housing, set it on top of an empty liquor bottle and push it in WITH the bottle. A 750ml works well. Will snap in place and immediately drain into the bottle instead of your hands. Drain a few. Then just dump the excess in your catch pan when it stops or gets to a drip. Keeps the mess down. I have an old bottle of Jim Beam just for that👍

I have a 2018 Tundra with the 1794 package. I have added a Whipple supercharger, bigger injectors, lowered the compression just a tad bit, Banks exhaust, and I run Amsoil 0W 20 with an additive. I run that oil 12,000 miles before I change it and I do not have any issues what so ever. It is a bit pricey but it's worth it. I have also converted my filter to a regular one and I have moved it next to the oil pan for a quicker and easier oil change. I loved the video and you have an awesome looking truck. Keep cranking these videos out.

FWIW, a clear plastic tube (3/8", I think) will push right up into that plastic fitting that drains the filter housing. That will divert that oil into whatever you'd like instead of the palm of your hand. :) Edit: Oh, and the maker of that filter wrench, MotiveXTools, also has a kit with the wrench and a drain that screws in that'll make it less messy.

Thanks! I fill spin on filters with oil, the cartridge style on the tundra wouldn’t retain much oil if you filled it. Assuming it takes just a few seconds to fill the cavity with the engine running I wouldn’t be concerned, everything is still plenty oily for the startup.

Suggestions- just ordered the fumoto valve 8-1/2 QTs coming out fills my pan and the intense volume comes out way too fast makes a mess The motiv x drain screw-in tube is well worth the money to empty the filter subject matter experts claim the amsoil filter element allows oil to flow better than the stiff toyotafilter it is much more expensive…but at the cost of new trucks My 2021 has a skid plate and I had to create a access hole for the filter… motiv x also has a screw-in funnel to fill the oil
@GarageAddiction
@GarageAddiction Жыл бұрын
I threw on a fumoto not to long ago and its been great for the mess. I did see the oil filter drain too, I might snag that at some point. The amsoil filters are about 4x the price but honestly still not that bad. I'm not too concerned about using the toyota filters but they are definitely built for price over performance.

@GarageAddiction
@GarageAddiction 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No skid plate here. I'm probably going to pick up something aftermarket. I'm doing intervals of about 7k miles since the 10k seems high to me and it's relatively cheap to change out. I've never gone by months but I'll change it after a year if I haven't hit the mileage.

@@GarageAddiction Thanks. I am selling my 2011 F150 with a 3.5 ecoboost now that I have the Tundra. I liked it initially, but it never really got the advertised mpg unless I baby the heck out of it. Yeah I owned a Dodge back in the day that had really turned me off to pretty much anything American made. I’ve had zero issues with the Tundra in 2 years and I look forward to putting on the miles. The ease of working on it has earned it a ton of points in my book.

@@GarageAddiction My Tundra (5.7L) averages 17-20 mpg. the only times I've gotten results that low is if I'm towing or just tooling around doing very short trips on the local roads where I live in S.E. Ohio which consist of very hilly and curvy roads. A lot of on and off the throttle. Driving back and forth to work this summer (128 miles round trip) which included a few of my local back roads plus mostly highway it's been about 17-18 mpg. The job I was on last summer was only 4 miles from my house and took 10 minutes each way. Worst mpg I ever got without towing or hauling,. The best I ever got was 21-22 mpg when traveling on nothing but flat, straight interstate, as long as you keep it under 70 mph. Above that speed I can hear that sound of the old cash register going "kaching" "kaching".
@GarageAddiction
@GarageAddiction 3 жыл бұрын
@@ccrider1990 Yeah most of my commutes are 10 miles or less off the freeway. I also live in a hilly area so it's a double ding to the mpg. I wish I could see more 17-18 haha

@@GarageAddiction Im asking because I'm looking for a reason the dealer did not put the fasteners back in that belong to the three plastic tabs for the splash guard front bumper. I have just found it today cleaning some over spray from sanding dry paint off a wooden table. My Toyota Tundra has 26000 miles and is a 2018. Being in the dealer garage 5 times and seeing two times things left undone or unfinished in those five times. Those are really bad numbers from an actuarial stand point. Servicing 50 vehicles a day and having ten people left with incomplete vehicles after driving them home is terrible service from a dealer network with supposable trained technicians. I now know they are three 10mm bolts left off from some type of work being done. Maybe an oil change or maybe other work being done, not sure. I have been a mechanic my whole life and this is not how I have never left a customers car. In retirement i have decided to let others do the service work and while vehicles may be under a warranty time having the local dealer do the work and document the service requirements are kept up. I also drive a Chevrolet park but realizing the dealer is not going to honor any of that car under warranty i do the work myself. Our town Clermont Florida is void of any skilled labor. You cant get a pancake cooked through or a hamburger ordered without a long wait. It seems our local McDonalds only waits on the counter after the drive through line is empty. Should i go on about Dunkin. The quick change oil places in town have broken so many air cleaner tabs or clips in the past years i cant go there any more either. People are totally F-----d in this city looking for quality service..

It's one of the main reasons I do as much work on my vehicles as possible. I've had a ton of issues in the past where something was overlooked or someone absolutely reamed the oil filter on. Most of the shops I trust are older but they're disappearing all the time. I want my daughter turning wrenches too so she doesn't have to deal with overcharges and shoddy work.
