ah the results come and go.. depends on the source. it just happened there was a super clean Elton John song on which really accented the bass..

Thanks so much for the super helpful video. Just upgraded the front speakers in my 2020 gti se to goldwood gw6024 speakers and it sounds much better already, actually some bass. Couple of comments. Used xscorpian spde65 1/2" spacer rings with lowes .5x.75 foam strip underneath to bring it to about .75" when partially compressed. Used machine screws with nylok nuts to hold spacer to door. Also used road kill rkfr6 foam speaker kit. You'll need to cut the center part that you adhere to the door skin to half thickness to clear the window. Toughest electrical connector to figure out was the drivers window controls but if you disconnect the other connectors first you can rotate the door 90 deg cw and easily see the clip that needs to be pulled down to get to the tab. Also the alarm led can be removed by squeezing the two little legs and pulling straight down. Btw, i installed a burger jb1 piggyback I bought second hand and the car is much zippier just on the default 4.8 psi boost map.

@@LastHumansGarage i just read that the vw head unit is programmed to restrict bass frequencies from reaching the speakers and needs to be reprogrammed using some dongle with an sd card. Have you heard of this?

@@markjacobsen2621 nope. unless they mean the Helix sub configuration settings and dongle. unless oyu have upgraded the door speakers, no need to change that anyway. they have the protection for a reason.

@@markjacobsen2621 additionally, i did not do anything to configuration when i installed my Dayton mids, and got way more bass out of the front.

You may want to consider putting some thin foam on the back of the adapter rings to avoid any vibrations from developing between the door and the rings.

Naw it is bolted down super hard. Although I got my parts express speaker caulk kit today.

Hey curious, do you have an amp powering the speakers or just the sub woofer? I am looking to upgrade the door speakers on the stock 17 S trim radio

I don't suppose you measured the circle-pitch of the stock speaker adapters? I'd like to do the same with my 2019 SE, but either 3D print or CNC some adapters before pulling the doors apart. Every time they come off the clips tend to get a bit looser. Any updates on the Helix and speakers in the months since? Thanks for sharing!

i have those stock adapters in my garage.. dont know what you want measured tho. i got rid of the helix a long time ago, it made my mids and highs way too harsh and distorted. but i still have my speakers in the doors. they dont do a whole lot on stock power, but i think i gain a tiny bit of bass.

and that's why you keep a set of 10 VW door clips on hand. however.. i have never broken any taking the panel off at least 5X.

@@LastHumansGarage I just flipped through your more recent video list, sounds like you're moving on to another car. What was that tune-able plug'n'play amp for the Helix? and would you have keep the speakers/setup and gone with the other amp if you were planning to keep the GTI long-term? Re. the circle-pitch on the stock speakers, with a 4-bolt pattern, that's just the distance between the center of the holes.

@@n1tr0kt i scrapped the PP62 amp idea also, that was 600-800. What would be the best setup, would be to add the helix, but ONLY amp the sub, and leave all the doors alone. the wiring would be a huge mess and pain at the helix harness, cuz you'd have to bring all the signal to the sub, then bring back the untouched stock signal back to the door speakers, and they wouldnt have DSP.. too much of a headache to get into. I'll walk to garage, pull the stock adapter out from under a few boxes, and measure the distance between the 3 mounting holes.

113mm distance between center of each of the 4 holes. i measured 10 times with 2 diff rulers.
