A couple of things that are incorrect: -you CAN turn radar cruise off by holding down The distance adjustment button. It'll behave like regular cruise control once you do - this car does not have a CVT, or any transmission at all. It is direct drive through the electric motor, which is most often powered by the generator which can make the engine behave like its paired to a CVT - you can turn the auto high beams off by flashing the high beams I don't mean to be super critical, but I think it's worth mentioning given that these are things that people consider when buying a car

Just to clarify, another commenter already mentioned the high voltage hybrid battery is inside the vehicle under the rear seat, not under the hood next to the gas engine. That is where the 2 electric motor drive assembly is located....This vehicle has no actual transmission, CVT or otherwise. The electric motors act as the transmission since their power band is very broad over a wide rpm range...Owning multiple hybrids with similar drivelines, I always use the cost of battery replacements as the equivalent to replacing a transmission in your typical gas car in debates with uninformed individuals and that's after the manufacturer's warranty ends which with most hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars being 7-10 years and up to 150k miles.
@AdmiralCecil
@AdmiralCecil 3 жыл бұрын
With the fuel savings over the course of 100,000 miles (approximately 10 yrs), it can easily offset the cost of replacing the battery and related maintenance. Many hybrid owners are easily exceeding this.

Hey bro! Very cool video! I have a 2019 insight and it’s been my favorite car. I have noticed the paint issues as well and at the beginning I used to get pretty scared on the interstate because of how much the hood shakes. Now I’m used to it. The only thing is that I don’t know if you have figured this out yet, but there is a way to disable the auto high beams and the safety features that you were talking about. You don’t have to use them if you don’t want to. Right from the beginning I also disabled the auto high beams. Great video, keep it up!

Bro, this car doesn’t have a CVT transmission, or any transmission for that matter. It uses a fixed single gear and electric propulsion system. So there’s no shifts, or variable ratios like in a CVT. Be glad you have no transmission in the Insight! It makes it more reliable, and cool. Electric cars don’t have transmissions either. Just a fixed, single gear is all that’s needed, thanks to the electric motors. Edit. I noticed someone else mentioned this. But i’ll leave it up anyway since I worded it differently. There’s no battery under the hood. The 12 volt car battery is under the center console inside the car. The hybrid battery is under the rear seat. The hybrid battery is covered for 7 years or 100,000 miles by Honda and it’s also maintenance free. It’s around $3,000 to have it replaced after that. Adaptive cruise control can be turned off. I turned off my auto high beams as well. I got my first paint chip also. I just bought the official paint pen. My hood doesn’t shake at all on the freeway. I’ve only found 2 flaws with my 2022 Insight so far. The left foot rest rubber protector was just sitting on top of the carpet and was never glued down. I have clear coat overspray on the right 2/3 of my windshield that shows up when the sun is setting. It’s completely clear on the left 1/3 of it. I don’t like how flimsy the trunk floor is and will get damaged if you put anything heavy back there like a dumbbell. I bought the insight trunk liner because of that. I’m waiting on it to come in the mail. Great videos!

I have had my 22 Insight Touring for almost a year and half. I call it an upscale Civic. it is a shame Honda really did not push it for better sales this is so much better than a Civic. I live in SE Texas and during those times I don't have to use ac or heat I am getting 55+ mpg calculated (miles driven/fuel used) around town mid 40s on highway at 70 mph. In sport mode it is fairly quick but around town I leave it in ECON and use EV from a start at lights/stop signs. yeah, lots of noise under acceleration especially when the battery is being charged too but much quieter when you accelerate and it is using ICE and hybrid. I really like the way it handles, it is tight but responsive. the ride can be a bit rough. the styling is amazing, very sporty looking not your Prius style. edit: yes I have the hood flutter also. it has been two years since this video, do you still have the Insight?

Again, some of this is repeats. But most of your complaints are due to misunderstandings. 1) The 12V battery for the car's electronics is what you pointed to under the hood. The hybrid battery is in the back. You can do whatever service that is needed for the 12V. Just don't touch anything with an orange cable. But then, it shouldn't need maintenance. 2) Honda calls it an eCVT, not a CVT. They do so only because people are stupid and won't understand "Transmission: none." The engineering name is "electrically-coupled CVT," because there is no mechanical connection. It's an electric vehicle, just one that uses a battery and a generator instead of just a battery. The driving feel you don't like is considered to be a plus for EVs. 3) The push-button shifter is WONDERFUL. Yes, it takes a couple of days getting use to, but then it becomes trivial to use. Swipe your hand down the array to find the (recessed) reverse button. The Drive button is easy to find by feel, and even has a "self-centering" rim around it. You don't ever need Neutral except maybe at a car wash. It also automatically shifts into and out of park, based on some settings. (And you may not like doing it, but there is nothing wrong with changing directions before the car comes to a complete stop. Remember, it is an electric vehicle.) 4) You *can* turn off adaptive cruise control. If it's like my Accord, just press the "main" button on the wheel. 5) I'm sorry, but it is quite quick for what it is. Motortrend rated the "12 Quickest Cars That Get 40 MPG or Higher on the Highway." #1 is my Accord, at 6.7 seconds. #3 is this Insight, at 7.3 seconds. (#2 was a non-hybrid Civic.).

Hey i'm enjoying your Insight videos, as i have a 2021 Insight (Ex) for 3+ months now. The auto high-beams will only come on when the lights lever is in the Auto position. The other easiest way to turn it off indefinitely, while you are driving and the lever is still in the Auto position, is to pull the lever toward you for one second and then release it. The auto high-beam indicator on the dashboard will then go away, and in my experience, it will stay off for your future driving unless you pull it toward you again for one second while driving with the lever again on Auto. You can manually put the high beams on by pushing the lever forward and leaving it there and then pulling it back to turn them off. I haven't done this but you can also de-activate the auto high-beams system more permanently by having the car on but still parked and the lever in Auto position by pulling the lever toward you and holding it for at least 40 seconds until you hear beeps and should see the indicator go off. You would be able to re-activate it with the car on, in park and Auto, by pulling the lever toward you and holding it for at least 30 seconds. All of this is on pages 204 - 205 of the 2021 owner's manual pdf. You can turn off the ACC and LKAS both by pressing the Main button on the right side of the steering wheel, press it again to turn them both on. I haven't driven it on the interstate yet, so i don't know if the hood will shake, and i don't know if the paint will chip. I live in the Adirondack mountains so i use the paddle shifters to increase battery charging and mpg; i get 52.4 with regular 87 octane with ethanol, and 56.6 with 91 octane and no ethanol. 93 octane with ethanol gave me the same mpg as 87. Higher octane does absolutely nothing for this car. What it does for high-performance engines, is to prevent early ignition (knocking). In some "normal" performance engines, if they can detect ignition, it can alter timing ever-so-slightly and maybe recoup 10% of the extra cost. So why? But ethanol actually has a lower energy density than gasoline. A gallon of E10 contains about 3% less energy than a gallon of ethanol-free gas, regardless of octane rating. So it should drop your mileage by about 1.5 mpg. EPA estimates don't use E10, but are adjusted to account for several factors, and that includes adding ethanol.

@@jeffjo8732 You are right. I get only 49.8 MPG with Shell Premium 92 Octane @$5.45/Gal, and 51.9 MPG with 89 Octane Non-Ethanol gas at $4.85/Gal. Premium with Ethanol is not worth it and may actually be bad for our new Insights.

Make sure you tell them the price you want to pay. I tried to get it at $30K, but no can. Try if can then can, but if no can then no can.✌

Overall I love my 2019 insight ex. However, recently dragged the left front bumper up a driveway entrance. $600 to refocus radar. Now a few months later and an additional $3000 plus for new radar and camera with no idea why. No hit, nothing. Plus another $$308.00 for a new 12V battery. No chance for 2nd opinion, dealer only.

Hello, I have a 2022 Insight. The "battery" you pointed out towards the beginning, is actually the main electric generator. The battery is underneath the rear seats. The "eCVT" is not a real CVT. It is essentially a differential with a set final drive. The electric drive motor drives the wheels at all times, and when conditions allow (and above 45mph) a clutch will engage to allow the engine to also drive the wheels in conjunction with the electric motor. This is nothing like a Toyota Prius, for example which has a first gear and a planetary gear CVT. Or nothing like a belt driven CVT like a Subaru or Nissan. I would go so far as to say that these Honda's don't even have a transmission. This is also why the highway mpg isn't as good as Toyota's hybrid cars; there is only one final drive with no real variable ratios, plus the drivetrain logic will disengage the clutch frequently to run the engine at higher rpm to feed more power into the electric motor. But this drivetrain also has the side effect of having probably the best city driving economy of any hybrids available right now. In ideal city driving conditions I've seen upwards of 75+ mpg (just trip mpg as reported by the computer, not tank or lifetime avg). I had to look up a guide, but the auto high beams can be completely turned off. I had a problem where the high beams would turn themselves off every single time the camera caught a stop light or light post. I had to disable it so I could actually use the high beams... I came across a 3rd gen Insight forum after I bought mine which has been helpful for what I wanted to do with my car. It seems like an okay community though I haven't really been on it much. The Insight is based on the 10th gen Civic, so a lot of parts should be easily transferrable. Like wheels, coilovers, etc. But ultimately these aren't enthusiast cars, at least not by design, so there isn't going to be a ton of cosmetic options available. I doubt there's much of a market for them. And lastly, yes the shaky hood is normal. I notice it every time I'm on the highway, even at 60mph. I have also seen it shake really bad in heavy cross/head winds on the highway, even so bad I can audibly hear it rattle violently. Pretty rare scenario to be driving 70mph on the highway in 40mph winds though, and the hood obviously didn't warp or come loose so it's fine. Not the first shaky hood car I've driven either. My 1983 RX-7's steel hood likes to wobble in the corners by the rear of the front fenders. I also think my old 2009 Prius hood used to wobble or shake sometimes when it was windy and on the highway.

Agree with you in some of your points but now that my 2019 Insight is out of warranty I serviced it myself and it's just like a regular car, of course I don't touch the electric system it doesn't require maintenance but the regular system is very straight forward.

Thays not a battery thats a motor next to a engine. But I get it modern people don't know the difference. The reason there is no support for them online is because they did not start looking good until 2021. And auto lights and breaking will suck but you get this car for the mpg thats it.

HI, I have 2019 insight EX and I love it. I have 120K miles on it and didn't have any issues so far. I have only done schedule maintenance. I wanted to tell you one thing is that this car does not have transmission. Its electric drive. Engine is only used as generator until you hit 65 miles per hour. There is diff lock that gets activated at 6 gear ratio so 90% of time engine is running as generator to charge battery and electric motor is actually powering your tires. only at 6th gear ratio engine starts powering tires with that diff lock. So that is the reason why you get constant engine noise while its charging battery. There is no CVT transmission in your car. Please look at this video to understand how it works: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4HCh3aeqbJ6gZo.

DO NOT BUY THIS FUCKING LEMON!!!!! I purchased the 2022 Insight Touring package three weeks ago. I purchased it for a daily driver and for road trips around Oregon, specifically to Mt Hood where my family has a tiny ski cabin. With guests in the vehicle, it is unable to achieve and maintain highway speeds without the engine redlining with any more than one person in the car. It can barely make it up the 2-3% graded area, and I was terrified to try the 6% graded area. It felt INCREDIBLY unsafe and underpowered. My brother and I both thought something was slipping. The engine revs dramatically and almost no power is sent to the wheels. I have no idea how I can use it to carpool. If you know the Portland area, it struggles to get up the west hills of through the tunnel up to Skyline on the way to Beaverton with just me (155 lbs). If I had two people or more in the car, I would feel horribly unsafe. I took it to the shop and they said it was working as designed. This is completely unacceptable! If you live in a completely flat area or only drive on city streets, yeah it will probably be fine. If you have any hills whatsoever, you are fucked.

It's not a lemon, the transmission doesn't suit your terrain. That's how CVT/eCVT transmissions perform on inclines. It's a drawback of that type of transmission. It's misleading to others researching cars to declare it a lemon when that's how it's transmission traditionally performs. I would hope everyone does their research on what suits their terrain, lifestyle and driving habits before purchasing a car. If not, don't blame the car.
