I personally don’t mind the front end but I am more concerned about the performance. Almost 10 years and we are about the same performance of a integra type r. To be honest, in today’s world we would need maybe 250 hp out of a 2.0L 4 banger small performance luxury sedan

People that complain about everything are annoying. They want luxury interior, flashy exterior, they want good mpgs, they want 400 hp, they want the car to be reliable. Oh and they want it to be cheap. I think this ILX is a really nice car. A naturally aspirated engine with a great transmission like that is what I prefer.

Joey N id say that for most car companies besides Honda and Toyota. There luxury brands such as this Acura, and Lexus hold up remarkably well compared to other luxury or performance cars. I’d expect this car to last well past 15 years.
@jrasero23
@jrasero23 4 жыл бұрын
mmm, you are only as reliable as the tech of the time. We have seen this with Honda throughout 2008-2013 witht heir 3.5 V6 engines that had VCM misfires but eventually that was ironed out after a class-action lawsuit and since then the 3.5 V6 6 speed has been one of the most bullet proof engines out there. We saw this a few years back with Honda and Acura's implementation of the ZF 9 speed transmission which they simply couldn't calibrate right, and while the 9 speed is still a tad wonky they aren't recalling anymore TLX sedans. When I had my 2016 ILX a few people complained about weird shifts every now and then, but it seems since 2016 they have ironed those out.

Acura is finally starting to get their styling in order after about 10 years. Next steps is that they really need to further differentiate themselves with Honda. There's no reason for anyone to get an ILX or TLX when you look at how great the new Civic and Accord are. Acura sorely needs to add a Type S version to the ILX (with a manual) with more power and/or introduce some sort of entry level affordable sports car that comes in 2 doors. They really need excitement at the mainstream consumer level again.

The problem with the "acura needs to distance themselves from honda" argument is that everywhere else except North America, acura doesn't exist. Everywhere else, this is a Honda ILX. I think the only options are to make acura a global thing and actually separate them, or just demolish acura and make em all Honda's for North America. I think they should all carry the Honda badge. The whole idea of acura in the first place was to price gouge the dumbass north Americans because "its not a Honda, its an acura".

My biggest complaint with this car is the fact that Acura is still building the ILX on the 9th generation Honda Civic platform. From what I have been told and have heard in general the car is great though feels outdated and old. The entirety of the car desperately needs a mechanical redesign rather than just a refresh of just the looks and hopefully Acura will deliver. At least they cut the price on the new ILX by $2k I guess. Kind of miss the old front end design that they had going for them... 3rd gen Acura TL driver here... Other than that its a great car with a great interior I just don't know how Acura could sell a new car on such an old platform for that kind of money with the old infotainment. Great review nonetheless!

This car is based on Civic BUT on (LAST GEN) 9th gen Civic platform!! THIS IS AN OLD CAR WITH NEW SHEET METAL. The engine, chassis and suspension are old (even the infotainment tech)... but you get new grill. I would not spend new car $$ on an old car. The current (10th gen) Honda Civic Si sedan is a much better car than ILX. But it only comes in 6sp manual (which is one of the best manual). I am sure this "ancient" ILX is the reason why Civic Si (coupe/sedan) don't get the 8-sp dual clutch. Oh yea all Civic Si also come with LSD which ILX never has. People who really think this is a good car should test drive Civic Si sedan, VW GTI, Audi A3... The new upcoming Mercedes A class will definitely make this car look even worse buy.

Acura needs to step their game up. Frankly, I’ve never liked hondas, but Acuras have always appealed to me a little. I hate the new pentagon grille though. That might look good on the NSX when that comes out but it looks wrong on everything else. To be honest, there’s pretty much nothing an Acura could do that’d make me want one, short of maybe having the cojones to put something crazy out like Lexus did with the RC F and its 5 liter V8. That would make me regain respect, but I don’t see them doing that. They’ll just continue to make bad, overpriced versions of sober, boring cars.

$35k for a 9th gen civic si with an open diff, leather and a dct. If you’re looking for a luxurious car, there’s no way to justify buying this over an accord. Even the new civic touring is more upscale in top touring trim.
@ER-ws2pb
@ER-ws2pb 5 жыл бұрын
it is the size of a civic, not an accord. some people, including me, don't want a larger car. If you want to compare an acura to an accord, you need to do that with the TLX. The main differences between the ILX and a Civic is it does not look like a space ship, it has a DCT instead of a CVT, and is naturally aspirated vs turbocharged for the same price points, apples to apples comparison. Sill, I will be looking at the new Mazda3, and the new Elantra Sport and Elantra GT Sport to determine which car I get next, my test drive of the ILX didn't impress, it was brand new, 2019, felt pretty slow/average to me, so not sporty enough for my commute.
@ER-ws2pb
@ER-ws2pb 5 жыл бұрын
also, your pricing is way off, compare a similarly equipped civic with a similarly equipped ILX, they actually dropped the price for the ILX by $2k+ for the 2019 (feel bad for those who bought a 2018...ouch) and added acurawatch. the 35K is high for a ILX with A-spec (totally appearance, zero difference other than cosmetic for the aspec). A premium ILX (no A-spec) will be cheaper than a Honda Civic touring, or at least about the same price...
@amamiai

A top trim Accord Touring 2.0 will cost you $39k in Canada, you get better performance but you also have to pay a $4k premium and not all people want to drive a big car. The 1.5t is actually slower than the 2.4 in the ILX/9th gen Civic Si according to many internet sources, also you cannot get any driver assist safety features(emergency braking, blind spot monitor, etc.) on the current Si.

It’s a great motor. 252k miles and counting on mine. Still going hard. Oil change about every 7500 miles is the only regular thing I do. Timing chain and vtec adjustments once, spark plugs I think once maybe twice. 5-speed tranny gave out at about 215k. I’d say it’s still got easily at least 90% of its youth, though average fuel efficiency has dipped a couple of miles. Picked up a used one from Japan we supposedly 80k miles on it installed for 1500$ - a noticeably bit better version than USA tranny to boot!

If this ilx had the civic turbo motor (they can tune it to put out more power for the ilx) and this dual clutch, that would be awesome. Honda is also capable of doing much better then this and really fucked this opportunity by outfiting the car with a engine from a compact eco car, Imagine if the car made a extra 75-100 horse power, with a simple small turbo.
