It's honestly awesome to have someone with finance advice that's also a car enthusiast. Hearing Ramsey tell people to buy a $3k hail damaged POS, while he goes out and buys Raptors is so annoying. If you're smart you can keep yourself from losing a ton on a vehicle, and part of its expense can easily count towards your "fun" money. It's worth it for genuine car people instead of people who just want a BMW for the look.

The Johnson that’s fair on the used bit. I’m only thinking about it from being bought as new. I work in SV where I’m surrounded by my coworkers 6 figure cars, and almost none of them are so flippant with money that they don’t ask a large array questions about a luxury vehicle before making a purchase. Your presentation style fits the serenity of this so well, even Scott was calmed down by this car. They are made to drive politicians around on the autobahn, pick up high speed and stay comfortably on the passing lane for hours. I work in politics and sat in the back of these many times and talked to the drivers. They are well received by their occupants for the reasons you listed, and they are operated and cleaned by professionals, so all the tech and shiny plastics are no problem. There is a consensus however, that the 7series BMW puts down more performance, and in a convoy you'd have to really push the A8 to keep up with the bimmers.

Excellent review! This is the first review I've seen that inspects the undercarriage and actually analyzes the audio system. The steel subframe in a $100k car is a deal killer, for me. Keep it up. You're probably the only car reviewer looking at real ownership rather than "omg, so many toys" as is typical on KZbin. This one I'd love to drive/ride if I was properly wealthy AND lived in a country with good roads. However, for peasants, all these electronics are added risk and the repair-replacement costs are insane. I would like the noise insulation used on the A8 to become norm in lower end cars though, even though my super-budget Elantra already does a pretty good job at it (for peasants).

I bought a CPO 2020 A8L late last year, but unlike the one in this review, mine has the 4.0TT V8 that was developed by Porsche. I absolutely adore the classy, understated styling, the room, the comfort, the ambient lighting at night with which you can choose from a whole palette of colors, the massaging seats (I am 6'7"), and the rear wheel steering. It's incredibly nimble for such a long car. Mine also has the upgraded lighting package which turns night into day. With the V8, this beast goes from 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds, and that's nuts for a 4700 lb, 208" long cruiser. I love this guy's reviews, and I'd love to hear his impression of this same car with 453hp and 487lb-ft of torque!

These are truly insane cars. Never something I would own, as I prefer enthusiast cars to luxury. I had the opportunity to explore and drive a W12 A8L at the dealership I used to work at. You have to commend the attention to detail, and commitment to producing the best product possible for import individuals.

We just got a CPO '17 Lexus LS460L w/48k miles for almost 1/2 price from new with a 4 year unlimited mileage warranty. I was looking for comfort, I didn't want to feel any bumps or hear anything - mission accomplished! But the thing, being only 2 years old is a time capsule. NA V8, no start/stop, no 360 camera, no HUD, no digital clocks, only 1 analog clock and the Lexus Remote Touch system is pretty terrible - hard to believe sticker is a shade under $100k. But, in order for us to afford a reliable used luxo-barge, this was likely our only option. The A8 looks great, but hard to buy a used one or a new one and take a $50k shot up the ass from depreciation!! :)

I totally agree with the heat in these newer cars. I had the opportunity to drive the facelift S63 with the 4.0 biturbo hot v V8. I took it in the hills near me and by the time I got to the top the fans were full blast even while moving. They stayed running hard for around 5-10 mins after driving. Temperature gauges read normal but it seemed like it was working really hard. Car was amazing in every other way.

I think it's because old cars have one mechanical waterpump and one cooling system with a thermostat. Newer ones such as this have several electric pumps and shutoff valves. There is no need to run the whole engine at 90celcius, it is more efficient when they can handle 130celcius but still keep the important parts cool enough. The coolant no longer flows from head to block via waterways either - they have their own coolant flows.

Nothing wrong with Genesis. A fully loaded G90 is $10K less than the price this thing starts at with no options. Sure this is a nicer car, but the Genesis is significantly less costly, more reliable, has a better standard warranty, quicker with the base 3.3T engine, and includes home pickup/dropoff service standard for car maintenance. If you have money to burn, by all means, get the Audi. Otherwise, the Genesis is a better buy without a doubt. Both of them will plummet in value the second you drive them off the lot. When Genesis updates the G90 with the new platform the upcoming redesigned G80 will be riding on, it will be even better. Supposedly there are new, significantly more powerful TT V-6s in development as well. Stop being an ignorant badge snob. Last year Genesis nearly outsold Audi in the US, so it's only a matter of time before Genesis surpasses Audi in sales.

I have a '21 Audi A8L 60 TFSI (V8). It is incredibly advanced, with tremendous V8 power. 0-60 in 4.4. Any flagship reviewed should be V8. I bought Audi's 10YR B2B warranty. No worries for a decade, which by then, I imagine most all Audi's will be purely electric. This is a very luxurious car and should easily be considered alongside the 7/S. To me, it's a mixture of them both.

Your 'final thoughts' conclusion on the A8 mimicked exactly how I felt about a 2013 Lexus LS460 F Sport I drove last year. Very serene, a little engine burble from the V8, but the seats, transmission, stereo, suspension all conspired to make a really great peaceful driving environment. I don't know how much the A8 is, but the LS460 was in the upper 30's, and unlike any Audi, I know I'd be ok out of warranty with a Lexus. No way I'd ever own an A8 out of warranty unless I banked on 4k/yr in repair work.

I've had a 2019 Audi A8L for about 2 years. IMO, what he got right in his review: very comfortable, very quiet, reduces stress. A few things I think he missed / got wrong: the all wheel steering is fantastic -- for such a big car, it really helps to be able to make turns in parking lots. When I put it in Dynamic mode and stomp on the gas it puts a huge smile on my face. It's not Tesla Plaid fast, but it's definitely plenty fast for its target market (guys like me in their mid 50s looking for something comfortable). For comparison, it's got nearly 2x the horsepower as my 1989 911 Porsche, and about the same as my 1969 Corvette. I bought the car for one reason -- to drive to my office 6 hours away, four times per year. The trip is all highway, without lights and not a single toll. I average 30.5 miles per hour. You read that right. The car automatically runs on 4 cylinders instead of 8 cylinders the entire way up! The review implied the trunk space was adequate, it is not - it is way too small, and the amount of storage inside the care is abysmal. Perhaps one day I'll be able to take advantage of all the leg room in the back seat. Servicing the car is exceedingly expensive (from the dealer, $118 for wiper blades; $2900 for new front brakes), and I do worry about when it's out of warranty. Had I not had a reason to drive it for work, and been able to take it as a business expensive, I probably would have had a hard time justifying the expense. (Buying it used, CPO, I felt like it was worth it.) It's my first ever Audi... and perhaps my last. I plan to keep it a long time.
