Great to see Riley and Mustafina back but for God's sake, the teams should protest spotlights. That is just dangerous, for beam especially. And they're wondering why so many falls.
@georgiarogers92574 жыл бұрын
Completely agree! No spotlights! Isn't gymnastics dangerous enough without it?

Yeah... Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that's just sports & ANY form of "entertainment," PERIOD- they're ALWAYS gonna do stuff so that it's just that much easier for "the fans to enjoy" at complete disregard for the competitors/athletes/performers own safety or benefit?! Luckily it DOES look like the majority of these athletes handled this funky lighting pretty well... But yeah, seriously, how could u even ATTEMPT to prepare for something like this?! I'm guessing you basically have to just wing it & hope for the best?! Eek! Good luck?! (Example- do you know how hard it is to train a HORSE to get used to suddenly competing in front of a huge crowd or inside a big, loud, echoing, enclosed stadium like this that they will probably compete in once you get to a high enough level?! You can train for 10+ years covering every single little tiny thing you can imagine being thrown your way in competion, but, man, it really is darn near IMPOSSIBLE to train for that type of thing! If you've been jumping in big, outdoor arenas in the daytime your whole career & suddenly you're having to jump 5+ ft high, 6+ ft wide fences in a dark, loud, creepy arena in a stadium like this with thousands- tens of thousands- of spectators?! Theres virtually nothing you can DO to prep yourself OR your horse for that kind of atmosphere! Your horse is either gonna take to it in stride- har har, pun unintentional- or it's gonna completely freak lol. And you'll do the same!) I DO imagine this made things that much more exciting for spectators at least?! I mean I HOPE it did SOMETHING beneficial for SOMEONE, anyways...

I've been laughing for 5 mins, I swear! 🤣🤣🤣 Edit: I really like how the German performed to the music on floor. Can Tim Daggett NOT compare every single one of these ladies to Simone Biles? Everyone knows that Simone is in a class by herself. That said, the women here are extremely talented, gifted athletes who have trained their entire lives and put in the same hard work, and made the same kinds of sacrifices to reach this level. All of these women are world class athletes. Why not show them the respect they have earned? Side note....wtf is up with this lighting? It feels like it could be really unsafe.

Jenna Leigh's Beauty Slam : Tim does not bother me, but I understand how he can be irritating to some. I think he remains because he has he offers a historical perspective as well as knowing the many gymnasts and their routines. I prefer the British commentators, but Tim has his place as well. Steveneven You know if the point was to highlight one gymnast at a time, couldn’t they do this by having just one gymnasts perform? Usually many performances take place simultaneously, so change the venue to have one gymnast at a time. They have those large screens everywhere, so the lighting did not make sense.

Isn’t it a safety hazard to have numbers pinned to their back using safety pins that could affect a beam performance or floor performance when they roll on their back? Not to mention the harsh spotlights that could literally blind a girl midair trying to land a vault or dismount?
@carliecole25634 жыл бұрын
Eh, they use numbers like that pinned to the back in a LOT of dangerous sports... We Wear them at lower level/schooling shows when I compete my horses& jump- at bigger, higher levels, you wear a small # on your horses bridle and/or a fabric # pinny tied around your body on cross country- but those are just waaay more expensive to order for all of the competitors than the cheap paper numbers pinned on your back lol. Those safety pins you use with those are generally so small & also pretty DULL- I've known people who have taken nasty spills off their horses and they came off & got "poked" by them- but even if that little thing manages to somehow break your skin even & stabs you 1/2" deep- it's barely more "painful/harmful" than pricking yourself with a sewing needle or getting a sliver u pull right out lol. If you really have a bad enough fall where you land in a way that dislodges your # & pins- you're proooobably saying OUCH for MANY more reasons besides that pin poking you... Probably the LAST thing you even notice haha
@gingerp66314 жыл бұрын
Rachel Shamariah : Not as concerned about the safety pins, but that lighting is a safety issue in my mind. Not a gymnast, yet that seems like a logical conclusion given the precision and difficultly the ladies must display. Shame on whoever insisted on this type of lighting.

@silverleopardcat4 жыл бұрын
No. You can only earn a nominative spot through the apparatus world cups. A non-nominative spot can be earned by a federation through the all-around world cups, which is what the US is trying to do here--they've been sending their top AA gymnasts to each event, and so far they are leading. Last year, Leanne Wong won the American Cup (with Grace McCallum finishing 2nd), Simone won Stuttgart, Hurd won Tokyo, and McCusker finished 2nd here in Birmingham. This event was from March or April 2019, by the way.
@heatherwicker99904 жыл бұрын
Bella Silver Thanks. Kinda makes sense but still weird to me.
@silverleopardcat4 жыл бұрын
@@heatherwicker9990 what will happen is that at the end of the series (sometime shortly before this summer), the non-nominative spot will be awarded to the US. This means they'll be able to send an additional individual gymnast; she won't be able to compete with the team but she can still contend for individual medals. A lot of people predict they'll send someone like Kara Eaker, who isn't that competitive at AA but can definitely win a beam medal.
@heatherwicker99904 жыл бұрын
