"Mirrors aren't important on a sports bike"??? I was chased for 11 miles on my Aprilia RSV1000 by the feds because I couldn't see them in my mirrors. Only found out they were there after I had slowed for the 30 limit and could then hear the sirens. :-D

@@Ubeleili They did at first but I managed to convince them about the mirrors. It was in 2004 and I got a 30 day ban and £300 fine. They clocked me at 107mph on a 60mph road.

Mirrors are not a priority on a sports bike and I think that is what he meant. He is right. I ride without mirrors on some bikes but I always check behind me on occasions. You getting chased for 11 miles is nobody’s fault but your own. That was dumb. 🙄

I took one out for 2 hours, and the handlebar vibration was the biggest flaw, my hands were in bits. Suspension was incredible, glided over manhole covers...and of course the power.

Great bike, nice and stable although I think I prefer the seating position of the previous model and even more weird, I like the oddball headlights of the previous model. It just made it a bit more unique.

I have an RSV4. That bike (s1000rr) is better in so many ways, but the thrill of the v4 is addictive. The sound of the v4 announces your arrival at every stop 😄.

The rsv4 is better to drive but less powerfull.I had the 2011 s1000rr but i prefer my 2016 rf, the sound and the rest

Also i want to purchase an RF (maybe the euro 4 version) which costs very similar to this BMW and it is quite slower. Anyway the satisfaction and the feeling coming from the RSV4 is unmatchable by this perfectly engineered BMW. I don't know why but i think that the most important think is to have a big smile after a ride and this is something that an S1000RR does not. At least for me, if compared to other bikes. Even if i usually go to trackdays and so performance is very important, at the end of the day what matters is satisfaction

Great Review Chops, I found these issues when I rode one: Mirrors vibrate, when revved handlebars really vibrate/grips, hard to get into neutral, rider foot pegs get so hot my feet start to burn, strange feeling from front brakes after releasing the brake lever, got stung from my local BMW dealer to take one out £26, the best thing about this bike is the handling. If you want the best road bike buy the 2015 S1000RR and save yourself £10,000!!!

Yes its very good, I want to try and get one for a couple of weeks also but fear I might fall for it haha! Kawk is very different, more of a road bike but more uncomfortable but hoping I can address that with some good mods. You will have to try it at some point for sure

You sound like Clive Owen. I also loved the looks of the old swingarm. I love the way the aluminum looks naked with little solder marks on it. A lot of the looks of a bike are in my opinion based on how the swingarm looks. Cheers.

Another great review Chops and I totally agree with all the statements that you made about the bike, and yes that swing arm of the previous model was so much better looking, its a shame that they didn't continue with it. I will have to give this bike a try. I must admit the bike I'm looking forward to seeing and possibly trying is the new Ducati Streetfighter V4....let's just hope that they put it in full production. 👍🙂

I’ve had mine for 2 months now and your observations are pretty much on the mark. It does vibrate especially compared to my old cbr 1000. I put evotech bar ends on and that helped quite a bit. Neutral is a pain. Sometimes it goes straight in. Other times impossible. Found while still rolling clicking in from second is the easiest. Dynamically the bike is insane. So light and flick able. I’m riding in winter in cold conditions in Australia at the moment but the amount of grip the bike has is so confidence inspiring. In warm conditions on track it feels like you could lean this bike for ever. The suspension is outstanding and is so compliant and spotty. The riding modes make s big difference. In the road modes the dynamic dampening can move 90% from base and it works very well. In the pro modes dynamic dampening is reduced to 10%. You can get a pretty stiff set up for circuit riding and whilst I haven’t put it on track yet. It feels similar to the way my old Kawasaki race bike was set up with ketch fork intervals and Ohlins in the rear.

Grexx it’s the best handling bike I’ve ridden plus the extras like heated grips and cruise are great for road riding. The negatives are those highlighted in the video. Ie a bit vibee and the neural issue. Plus you would be able to buy a Japanese bike for a lot less. Depends on your budget.

Grexx I haven’t ridden the Ducati but I’ve ridden the base R1. Ie not M. I hated the R1. To stiff for the road. Terrible brakes. The throttle connection via fly wire is not very good. It’s obviously dynamically great for the track but it wasn’t for me. The new S1000 is so much better than that bike.

To get a BMW into neutral, just give it some more revs. Gotta be so careful when at idle revs.

This is not basically a base model. The basic variant is S 1000 RR, which does not have as a standard DDC (Dynamic Damping Control), heated grips and cruise control, Hill Start Control Pro (HSC), Launch Control, Pitlane Limiter, Wheelie Control, Riding Modes Pro with RACE Pro 1, RACE Pro 2, RACE Pro 3, Gear Shift Assist Pro, which S 1000 RR Sport has.

If I am not completely wrong, the bike has BMW Connectivity, so the build in navigation is only usable with a smartphone which has the BMW app on it and is paired, since the bike itself doesn´t have a gps tracker included. It is the same with the GS and other bikes with the new TFT display.

Appreciate the review, as much as it being on the "standard bike" which had a few extras unlike most reviews being on the M sport version it helps understand the benefits of each model. Myself I prefer the naked look and am waiting for the revised S1000R which I trust will have all the goodies TFT, quick shifter/ blipper, electronic suspension etc. which I hope is coming out in 2020.

carl lewis Bmw have just released update colour for s1000r for next year San Marino blue , it’s looking like it will be 2021 before we see it or maybe October next year at earliest , I ride a 2019 s1000r sport myself in Motorsports colours 5000 kms now & zero faults so far cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪

The non M sport versions still came with DDC and the ride mode pro. It’s the non sport version that didn’t come with any of that stuff. The screen, shifter etc was the same for them all.

In June 2021 I got my bike - Racing Red 2021 S1000r Sport with a fantastic, clear and easy to use TFT offering connectivity to my smart phone, for media, phone and GPS turn by turn directions, up/ down shifter, heated grips 3 levels, cruise control, auto cancelling indicators, LED lights all round, hill hold assist, a motor offering low, mid torque to keep you amused together with an as yet untapped top end. sublime handling at low speeds with accurate and reassuring control at higher. Choosing as I do Dynamic Pro mode allows the valves in the exhaust to open up producing pops and crackles on the down shift which just make me giggle. Importantly I am very happy with how it looks and how it performs and even if no one else said how nice my bike looks - this happens every time I ride it I if you can tell feel very happy after 7 months of ownership and 2,350 miles.

4:07 the tft is the same as my R1250RS. You don’t need to pay for the navigation, you just need to connect your phone via Bluetooth and use the BMW “Ride Connected” App which is free on Apple (and I think Android). Then you can put in your destination and it will give you turn by turn directions etc. It also records your rides and can show you various stats (eg how much fuel does the bike have in it) when you’re away from the bike. Nice review btw. Front reminds me of the movie “How to train your dragon”

Gorgeous display. I really appreciate how they don't have disgusting wires hanging out of the top of each fork post like every other bike with electronic suspension!! They should have made it keyless for the full "clean" look

Since you tried the base model of the S1000RR you should also try the base RSV4RR and compare it to this BMW. I just bought a brand new 2018 RSV4RR and they are incredibly affordable (got mine for less $$$ than any other liter bike).

Yes, as you say it in red paint is similar to a Ducati. Personally, I think it would fit in black paint with the blue/red stripes.It comes in a new color scheme next year called Hockenheim silver. The new front fairing is nice but it is similar to the Ducati.I like the so called alien head 👽 front fairing more. Cheers🍻👋🏻 and ride safe🏍👍👍

I so agree about the swingarm, a big banana be it underslung or normal alu polished swing arm is just exquisite. But I guess we are a bit brainwashed or influenced by the old 250 and 500 and motogp racing bikes. :) One other thing, I like about the new S1000rr is that it feels slimmer and a bit shorter than the old one which was pretty much a bus for a shorty like me at 172/5.6feet.

Nice review 😊 I’ve got 1,200 miles on my M Sport now and honestly I love it. Lots of carbon fitted and other goodies and don’t really care about vibes or mirrors. However - the neutral issue on a £20k bike is unforgivable and really getting on my bits. It’s a shame because otherwise it’s brilliant, but I don’t think being able to get a bike into neutral is a big ask..

Hmmm. Originally I liked the look of it, but having watched your vid. I don't think I do anymore. The front end looks a LOT better, but looks pretty vibey - the whole screen was vibrating as well as the mirrors! But that rear end is awful! Integrated tail light in the indicators!? And that swing arm looks like it's come off an old Yamaha commuter. Cheap plastics and dodgy neutrals? Think I'll give it a miss....Great vid as always tho!

I'm wondering about the safety aspect of building the brake light into the turn signals. I know cars do it, but they also have a center brake light (at least here in the US). Also, I don't care for the bronze (a la Honda) engine cover. Dark grey would have looked better.

..yeah, definitely agree with you on the looks dept. The previous gen swingarm was always a thigh-rubbing moment! I had the 15/16 MY which is the only model that had the lower fairing extend all the way back - all other MYs including the current, where the lower fairing is cut short exposing the exhaust plumbing, really upset the the looks - a de-cat and a aftermarket fairing would look ace on new bike ..although not much to be done about the rather 'shed-build' swingarm - wonder if the old one would fit! ;)

Top rate review as always. I think I'd be fair to call you a 'speed demon', 😁😁 That said, I did note that you never brought up your gsxr1000rr in comparison with this bike. Given the two( yours with all the Bling), and this sport model with the forged wheels, which makes a better road bike to live with given the hour's worth of feel on the beemer ? Dash wise, "there's enough there to cause you to have a crash". I'd go for the base model at 15k, looks good in red and just how fast do you need to go.

Forged wheels are standard. Carbon wheels are the upgrade option that come with the M-Sport package..

Not quite, there are 3 wheel types - Cast, Forged and Carbon. The Red one comes with the cast by default - the Performance Pack adds the Forged Rims

Also have they increased the price you quoted for the wheels or is that the price for the bog standard bike? Also did you not find the seat painfully uncomfortable? Sitting in one at the nec it was like a plank of wood utterly awful compared to all the other litre bikes

Does the frame get hot on your legs like the older gen 1 and gen 2 bikes ??? And is it as comfortable as the older bikes ?? I had a 10 plate and 11 plate gen one and i loved them especially when i fitted a AR inconel full race system and the pc5 on a custom map !! Missile !!

Yeah its much easier to ride and more comfortable so in someway yes... But love the H2 its a bit special and now its more of less run in it bloody shifts as given it some beans now :-)

Great video Chops. Bahnstormer giving you an hour was a bit stingy. Totally unacceptable this level of bike has neutral troubles, maybe the problems with heat dissipation has something to do with it. Otherwise seems like a beauty of a machine delivering all those glorious horses.

Surely in this day and age with computer design 3D printing and siri answering questions... can they not make the neutral position on the gear box where 1st gear is just now and for example two taps with your foot to engage it...It would mean a quick shit and blipper would not have to pass through neutral. Maybe someone can educate me on why they haven’t done this. Just seems like a simple solution to me.

Tough choice. I think I’d go for the RSV 1100 Factory. Then change my mind and get an 1100 Tuono Factory instead. 😂

Does the BMW give more vibrations through the pegs and handlebars than the GSXR? Which one would be the most comfortable bike in terms of ergonomics?

hmm the Suzuki is worse at certain revs but doesnt vibrate more as the revs increase.. GSXR is also slightly more comfortable I would say, more roomy anyway

Must be the one MF tested, what happened to the M-Sports Baron and Statham tested? I need to get out and test some 600's so I can get out and try some 1k's soon after, I've never ridden a full on Super Sport yet :(

Yeah not sure... Think someone broke one of the carbon wheels so they put the forged wheels on this one. The M-sports were at their maidenhead site I believe .. They said the Msport is back at Alton this week so may test that too!!
