My first HT I got in college in late 1989. Heavy, like a tank. No other HTs were 7w at the time and of course I wanted the most powerful one. And it was an Icom. It might have been cheaper than the Kenwood and Yaesu radios at the time, or maybe it was more geared to new hams? I don't remember. I just liked the 7 watts.

Not sure why these guys were laughing at that unit. I will choose that unit over the new ones these days. I still have couple of that tank, three of the IC-2Sat, couple of the 02AT, 2AT and I will say that I love those units!

@@JETTGEAR Nice collection, its funny everytime when I attend a Net you could hear them using a NODE. Out of 120 attendees were like less than 10 who are still using barefoot Simplex hitting the repeater. I admit very tight with Budget/Covid situation. Nothing wrong with NODE and i wanna learn that in the future. Aside from 2gat I was able to acquire 02at, 32at/my baby, 2gxat, 12g, M11/Marine, A21 and a Yaesu FT-530. I hope we can set up a group chat for all "OLD SCHOOL" Radio Ht. 73!

What would you use a radio like this for? Does it work with the hunting radios you can buy?
