People talk about fords, dodges, and chevys like these trucks are people. The truth is this.....your going to be biased toward one for reasons you can’t figure out. But I’ve owned them all and I can say this without being biased....; if I need a general all purpose truck that can do it all with the drive comfort in mind, I’m going with Ford everytime, if I am pulling only all the time , I will try to go with a stripped down dodge because of the straight six, if I’m going for mainly ag and off-road uses, I will probably go Chevy. All are decent, but I will plainly state it: Ford offers more than competitors in creature comforts and as far as the inside feel of these trucks; it’s not close...Ford’s quality supersedes all the rest. I’ve owned all of them , all different models 150’s, /1500’s , 250’s, /2500’s , 350’s /3500’s -- there is a difference. And before someone mentions the whole 6.0 debacle, bullet proof it and try to tear it up; it will keep going and going. The dodges I’ve owned always comes back to front end wobble or the transmission; the chevys are just not as sturdy from an interior stance. Everybody talks about the Allison in chevys, let me tell you,; won’t touch transmissions behind the 6.0 or the 6.7.

What would you buy for a plow truck/trailer tower? I dont care about comfort or interior i just want the most reliable and strongest vehicle. I wont be putting a lot of miles on it, 5-10k/year all city driving. The most important things for me are the transmission and front end as those are hit hardest by plowing. I have been watching your video's for awhile especially since you got this truck. I have been looking at the 2019 350 and 450 so far and I haven't made a decision based on gear ratio. I have talked to several owners that run 3.55, most with 4.10 and the 450 only has 4.30, the downfall to the 3.55 is hills pulling heavy. With the new 10 spd transmission coming out for 2020 I may wait on some reviews to see how the trans holds up. I am hesitant to jump in a truck with a relatively unproven transmission. Most haulers no matter what brand said the 4.10 is the overall best option unless these new 10 spd transmissions are a game changer. Thanks for the updates!
@THUNDERstroke735 жыл бұрын
I'm also very interested in the 10 speed but like you said wait and see how it does. I like the 4.10's best. If you have the extra cash for a 450, do it. If not an F350 with 4.10 does great. And setup like this Ford has the GCWR at 40,000lbs. Which is plenty

I'm a 7.3 guy and always will be. But it's a tough industry for the old trucks, which I why I went new. Loads are heavier these days and the world moves faster then it did 15 years ago. The 1st step is getting a class A and becoming familiar/comfortable with pulling long trailers and knowing what to do in any situation. What I'm doing requires a class A, so don't be fooled there. I currently have a Ram not particularly a fan of anything in particular they all have key points. I haul a backhoe, and a heavy skid steer. I’m interested in a Ford they are great trucks they just seem to squat a lot for no reason. Fords have always looked better in my opinion though. Especially when my egr went out at 125k and ball joints and hubs replaced at 75k that was a load of epic horse waste
@THUNDERstroke735 жыл бұрын
I haul a JD 310 backhoe and it has zero issues doing it. As far as squat goes, I put air bags on everything so I never notice. Air bags are worth their weight in gold. Over on Tow Piglets channel, he has 2019 Ram dually that squats like 3 inches and he only does non CDL loads. I feel like springs are softer these days for ride comfort or something, I dunno. Weird

Great video man !! Would you post a video of your rpm and towing up a steep hill with shipping containers ?? PD Diesel Power has a Cummins hotshot channel and likes to say how Cummins stays way lower rpm and that Power Stroke would reach 3500 -4000 rpm on a hill with a shipping container to keep speed lol
@THUNDERstroke735 жыл бұрын
I'll be hauling a 40 container tomorrow. Paul is a good dude, but he doesn't have the mountain passes Colorado does haha. I'll try to get video tomorrow. Obviously Cummins and Power Stroke are apple's and oranges. But the biggest factor I see is gearing.

New to Colorado, I drove my truck out here from NC. Truck is a 1990 7.3 idi, it’s experiencing injection pump and injector issues. I was wondering if you or anybody could recommend a good diesel shop who knows these old trucks in the Boulder, Longmont, Lafayette area. Thanks and cheers.
@THUNDERstroke735 жыл бұрын
My buddy owns Bowen Street Garage in Longmont. He's a diesel genius. If he can't get you in, Luckys diesel down the road is also very good and specialize in Ford diesels. Most of these guys grew up working on IDI so you should have some luck. My other buddy owns Stonum Automotive. A little more expensive but I've never heard of a truck going in there that couldn't get fixed. All 3 shops are in Longmont and have excellent reputations for diesels

ChassisBlack73 Thanks for the advice! I’ll see what I can work out. I put new injectors in the truck last week but still can’t get it to stop smoking. Timing or a new pump may be in order.
