When Haas probably get their problems sorted out McLaren could have a fight on their hands. Renault are also showing pace, I’m hoping Kimi’s Alfa pace is going to stick to the rest of the season. Generally the midfield is looking extremely competitive

THING IS... no matter what, I still love F1 above all other motorsport. It's still unique in how the sport runs, how cars are designed from the ground up each season, the level of pressure on engineers, drivers and crews, the history, the fact that it's a true WORLD championship, etc, etc, The reason we care is because we love it so damn much!

Canada was a great race for the lead untill vettel made that mistake bahrain was great also. Just cuz one race here and there is borring dont mean F1 needs to change everything. I'm sorry WTF1, but in these ABCDF1s it feels like you're giving random ratings to the drivers and I HATE IT. - Kvyat qualified 16th but started 19th because of an engine penalty, finishes ahead of Albon who started 11th and that's a D ? Like Vettel who has fkd up his qualy and race? WTF?! - Grosjean didn't run in FP1, had issues with his car all weekend long, and was ahead of Magnussen who had an upgrade on his car and that's an F just because "he complains on the radio"? He is annoying for sure: but you can't take away that he is driving great this season. - Matt says that he'll give both Williams a C just because he doesn't what they've done! I agree to disagree with people: but it looks like you just don't care. You guys want to share a race review and I LOVE IT. But at least work it properly it's insulting.

Grass and Gravel are not coming back, because asphalt is safer and safety has priority for the FIA. However, if you don't penalise drivers exceeding track limits, the race would look like IndyCar at CotA, where they did not penalise exceeding track limits at the exit of corners, which meant, everybody was using the full asphalt runoff as part of the track. This cannot be the solution, because it means the corner is getting faster, the runoff smaller and the asphalt runoff is not existing anymore. This is worse than a grass or gravel runoff in terms of safety, which makes the asphalt runoff pointless. I think the penalties need to be more consistent though as you said. Maybe we need to introduce a long lap penalty like in MotoGP or Rallycross and say everytine you leave the track, you need to do a long lap penalty. That way, the rules are very clear and there is an on track penalty. This would also encourage drivers to stay on the track.

FIA should make it so that the teams don’t know what compounds they are allowed to use till right before the race. Gives them less time to make their elaborate strategies. Imagine if it was announced that half an hour before the race they announced you can’t use mediums. That would shake things up a ton. Make it more unpredictable.

Love the passion for the sport from you three. I’m also a huge fan of the sport and have been watching every race since 1999 and have travelled all over Europe and North America to see the F1! The sport is so broken now, only good races happen when something completely random happens. The top teams have too much power in the decision making of rules and regs that it should only be the FIA that has the final say, not the teams with their ability to veto. I could go on and on, but I think, like you guys, that a certain level unpredictability needs to return to bring some chaos into a race that can throw it wide open without doing it artificially. Hope f1 gets better for 2021, but if teams can still veto, then I fear not much will change. Anyway, keep up the great work guys, love the F1 discussion.

It's the tracks. Both the perez and ricciardo incidents would have been prevented if gravel/grass were lining the corners and straights. These huge tarmac runoffs are too tempting for drivers to use/abuse in the heat of battle. This creates situations that are virtually impossible to govern.

The simple way to improve F1, before any major rule changes: In practice give the teams non race tyres - these tyres will work for learning the track and testing new parts. But teams won't know how each tyre behaves for the race. Qualifying is changed to 1 hotlap with the best going first, so the smaller teams get the better track and have a little more race tyre knowledge

They would have no reason to appear as being "the best", so they will drive slow to get the best track conditions for qualy. If you are talking about being the best as in the best position in the Championship, how do you decide the first race, or when they have the same amount of points? It just seems to be another way of throwing the dices. The idea commented in the Podcast - using at least one set of tires from the entire range, sounds a lot better, allowing the teams to take chances and change their tactics to an larger extent during the race.

@Thenalya
@Thenalya 5 жыл бұрын
Knowing that no matter what they have to make at least 2 pit stops, allows the teams to change their tactic depending on the on track situation, with different length stints to combat getting stuck behind a car, making 2 quick pit stops in order to gain track position, or using the compound that fits their car design more than another, on which they struggle. It adds additional variables for each team to handle, it's quite a curve ball for strategists.

Schumacher is hailed a great for having 7 world titles, Hamilton doesn't get the same respect being on track for his 6th. Mercedes are slandered for the domination yet we look back at McLaren, Williams, Ferrari etc with fond memories - again listing them the greats. We are in the period of greats taking over and becoming greats. Yes, the field should be more equal to make for closer racing and it not being a whitewash but teams and drivers have won my landslides before, and it will happen again. Hamilton should also be getting more credit. 18 seconds ahead of his teammate, consistently setting fastest laps. A guy who has interests outside of F1 and doesn't spend his week on a sim training over and over. The guy is incredible, I for one and happy to see him winning.

Schumacher was deeply involved with the development of the car and the race strategy. Most of the time Lewis cannot even be bothered. I fully recognise that Lewis is a brilliant driver, but all that hype how he is the God Of Racing himself just brings me to LMAO. His edge over Vettel is the Mercedes F1 Team. "Yeah, but Lewis is flawless and Seb breaks under pressure!" was what the fanboiz were chanting literally hours after HAM has crashed his car in the quali at Montreal. Just imagine Hamilton in the lead Ferrari and Vettel in the lead Mercedes. Everything else is the same. Valtteri is driving the second Mercedes, Charles is driving the second Ferrari, Binotto is Ferrari's team principal, Wolff is Mercedes'. Now tell me that even in that case HAM's and VET's standings would be the same as they are in the championship right now. Because this are the claims of Lewis' superb brilliance translated into reality. Imagine Lewis driving the lead Ferrari and the Spaniard as his race engineer. Exactly!

If F1 wants to push the limit in developing the technology in road cars they need to be the non spec Formula E's BIG brother. Sadly then the engines need to go but it will by doing so attract a lot of car manufactures which could make it really intresting. But like i said i want that engine and with the future of cars they are going to be rare to find in the nearby future... :(

Lets bring back the gravel traps. Then there will be never a debat about "gaining an advantage". Get rid of all those "run off area's". 70, 80, 90 area you never talk about track limits. There is a track there is gras, a wall or gravel traps nothing more. You can go outside but you will never gain an advantage.

The easiest and quickest fix is getting rid of all the data. The races are so predictable and boring because the pace based on how the car feels is no longer left to the driver, it is programmed based solely on data. I liken it to bicycle racing, power meters, and bio-metric sensors let the riders and team boss know exactly hard they can push without going over the limit. And like bike racing you don't give the driver the chance to just drive and decide how hard to push. Not saying they shouldn't be allowed to collect data, they just shouldn't have access to all of it during a race...no tire temps, brake temps, ability to adjust power etc...

Great podcast as always. Really enjoyed the first 20mins of spitballing the future of Formula 1. Must admit I'm getting a little sick of the negative press & comment vibes around each weekend but I guess I haven't been watching long enough to be jaded by the lack of action on track.

Poor Grosjean, was actually ahead of Magnussen this race before the car was retired and got a lower rating anyway in ABCDEF1. But then again the complaining. Good god the complaining. I actually really like Grosjean (I think he's one of the most underrated drivers on the grid) but the non-stop team radio whinging is making it really hard to defend him...

FIX F1: Forced 2 stop racing and stop changing the regulations. If the regulations stay the same, the gains homologate and everyone ends up with the same performance. If you constantly change them the big teams always do a better job.

Well, a question for you all: As you said in the podcast F1 wont change because it wants to keep those manufactors at bay to earn the needed money and publicity and for keeping them at bay they tend to lend them some power over the direction of the sport. So my honest question is: Why dont we boycott a race? I personally didnt watch the french gp but i watched every other one with the attitude yeah this race something might happen. So lets debate on wether or not the wonderful British GP should be boycotted by online watching people. Have a thought boyz and girlz out there...

Take away tyre temp sensors and let them start on any tyre they want. That will shake it up a lot. Puts more onto the driver in managing themselves instead of being coached through the GP. Also make tyres that have a sudden cliff. If the driver is experienced they should be able to know and feel when the tyre will massively drop and gives drivers the chance to push the limit and risk it. Everything seems a bit too comfortable and procedural. No one likes that in motor racing. People watch motorsports for the drama and the show. The French gp was like watching a scalextric car go round and round and round with nothing exciting happening

Have two races per weekend, one as per normal and one in a type of car/kart that focuses on driver skill and pure pace. This will help teams compare drivers easier and create an exciting race for fans to watch. Either the smaller “fun” race counts towards driver points or just a fraction of the total weekend points

All team get the same money no matter what place they finish The winning team attracts the best sponsors engineers drivers This plus the amount they win means the winning teams just keep getting better. This would allow smaller teams to maybe snipe a better engineer from a bigger team using the new money they have. This plus regular rule changes would mean smaller teams will have a better opportunity to create a fast car
@felixone7506
@felixone7506 5 жыл бұрын
regular rule changes actually do quite the opposite, thats what killed williams. the big teams can just keep throwing money at rule changes while the smaller teams dont have that money. upgrading a car is much easier if the ruley stay the same, and its much cheaper than having to build a completely new one nearly every single year
