What does Matt has against Perez? He still says that it was a 2vs1 battle between max and Merc when in fact Perez was vital for that strategy. Marko said in an interview that during the race, Perez agreed to go long and slow down in his first stint so that Max could have a 2 pit strategy.

Perez knows that at this point Verstappen is just faster than him in the car he's been driving for 5 years. He knows There's no point in him unnecessarily trying to be the Alpha and going against the clear Golden Child of RB. He is still getting to grips with the car. Its not worth is to be salty just to get a few wins and make everyone else unhappy. I have a feeling that towards the end of the season, Perez will overtake Hamilton to be No. 2 in the drivers Championship.

People talk about Perez inheriting the win in Baku but we forget that with a better pit stop he probably comes out in front of Verstappen. I don’t know if he would of won the race but it would of definitely been an awkward situation. But since people love “what if’s” so much, what if?
@Boerkreeelis

I thought the same, but it turned it didn't make a difference. There was a calculation done that if they all had the same quick stop (I think it was Verstappen's time they took), they would have ended up the exact same way but just closer together (who knows what that would have brought). Was analysed on the F1 TV show afterwards, if I remember correctly.

I think Perez is an incredibly smart guy. If he is ever winning and Max is behind him, he will prompt the swap himself and confirm it with the team, unless they straight up say no, and if they respond with anything but "no, keep the position" then he will give Max the win even when Red Bull say "it's up to you." If Sergio is p3 and Verstappen is p4, he will 100% just give Max the spot. He won't fight it. He, like any other person in the sport, knows what a Hamilton dominance is, and being able to dethrone the legend, or at least be part of why he has been dethroned, is a huge deal. Besides, he knows that if he plays nice here, it will pay dividends for him later in resigning the contract and eventually maybe his own title shot.

Apart from that obiously it is HIGH downforce that destroys tyres. Not that it is an excuse, but it was obvious that MERs decision to go high downforce in France contribute to their loss, because of it causing tire wear, illustrating they at least were not smart as to how to preserve tyres THIS race.
