The Genesis G70 is a compact, premium, sport sedan built to take on anything from Germany or Japan. This all-new Genesis G70 is built on a similar platform to the Kia Stinger but is shorter and weighs roughly 475 lbs less. The base engine is a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder with 252hp or an optional 3.3L Turbo with 365hp. All but one model comes with standard AWD, or what Genesis calls HTRAC. The only RWD sedan is a special sport version of the 2.0L with a manual transmission. The Genesis G70 is nicely finished inside with a standard 8-inch tablet style screen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a TFT screen in the centre of the instrument cluster but no pure digital dash. On size, the G70 is roughly the same size as the Mercedes C-Class. Right now, this G70 is the segment leader thanks to a $42,000 starting price, 5-year warranty and 5-years of maintenance, plus great handle dynamics. All bets are off when the new BMW 3 Series arrives.

We just got one for my wife. I went in the dealership with the mindset that I wouldn't like it because Hyundai makes it, but I figured we'd check it out anyway. As soon as I saw the car in person and sat inside of it, my opinion changed drastically. The amount of features in this car at the price point is unbeatable. We got her the 2.0T Sport in Mallorca Blue with 19'' wheels. It's a stunning car. Just for reference, I own a 2018 Audi S5 Sportback, so my expectations were very high.

That’s actually pretty funny because we checked out the Alfa right before this car. She didn’t like the Alfa as it didn’t feel that nicely put together. The G70 has a higher build quality and looks better in my opinion. The Alfa is a fine car but personally the G70 takes the cake in my opinion.

This is my next vehicle. There are a couple things I think they could have added, i.e., L.E.D. rear turn signals, but that's minor. The styling, performance, and features cannot be beat for the price.

Let me tell you why I like your reviews. 1 you focus on the cars as much as possible. The review is not you standing outside of it and the camera facing you while you drive the whole time. Second you evaluate each car fairly without brand loyalty. Most "reviewers" have clear bias and feed into stereotypes about brands. It is just so hard to find balance reviews or those where the host isn't making it about them and their antics. Great job! Now on a side note I am so mad I just purchased an Accord and passed on a pre-owned G80 and G70. I am not happy and will start saving to move to one of them quick. Sorry but Genesis makes so great cars.

Just on looks, this would be my choice. The Germans have become almost boring and too common imo. I no longer look forward to their new models because they all look the same year after year. The G70 is a breath of fresh air in this segment and I hope that its a huge success for them. Bravo.

Mohand Chibane best at what? Being broken down at the mechanic? German cars have great performance, but are unreliable hunks of shit. I’ve owned a few, an e46 m3 that had vanos and cooling problems, a 335i that had fuel pressure pump problems that bmw never resolved and just kept replacing, an Audi rs4 that had carbon build up issues in the engine. For cars that are so fucking expensive they are overrated garbage. Yes they look nice when they’re not at junkyard. That’s why most of their owners lease them because they know once the warranty is up that overpriced piece of shit is a ticking time bomb.

Shankovich the g70 design much like the previous genesis models were designed by Peter Schreyer who can from Volkswagen Audi. The aesthetics were influenced by a person who used to design Audi’s. Design and build is 2 completely different things so get your facts straight dumbass. Just because someone designed the look of the car doesn’t mean it was built by Germans.

Hey Zach, Another AWESOME Video- TY TY TY !!!! I just had the 3.3TT version for 2.5 days and the sun was shining with ZERO rain. I live in Vancouver & am a car guy. Here are the 3 negatives: (a) The back seat doesn't accommodate anyone over 5'9" for a journey lasting over 30 minutes. (b) The long term reliability and trade-in value is a HUGE question mark (c) the vectoring is brake applied to the inside wheel- Lots of grabbing going on during spirited driving. Now, onto the Positives - EVERYTHING ELSE!! This handles like a go cart (it is a Compact car) the steering wheel feels right, the turning radius is one of the best, It has 5 ride selections, the tech is in abundance, the seats can be sporty or comfy, that engine - torque & HP is ample (4.7 seconds from 0-60), the sight-lines are excellent, HUD displays whats needed, the adaptive cruise works really well, the 15 speaker Lexicon sound system is very good. I can go on and on. The summary is this- If you want a Value filled 4 door vehicle that looks great, has an AWESOME interior, is quick & fast when u want it to be, has the latest tech and your mother-in-law will like it too b/c in comfort mode it drives very smoothly then this is a big contender vs the Germans, Japanese and maybe Cadillac. Its an all in price for the 3.3TT V-6 of $57,500 Cdn. Book a test drive and see for yourself. Excellent compact 4 door sedan and if u enjoy assertive driving try the 3.3TT. Too much fun!! Also, the personal touch and customer service is a huge marketing advantage for them. Cheers from Vancouver, Canada!!

Hey Zach, Another GREAT Video!! I drove the 3.3 TT (slight turbo lag) for an entire weekend in Vancouver, Canada just 30 days ago and totally luved it except for: (a) the rear seats are small (b) The resale value & reliability concerns are HUGE (c) I found a huge vibration when cornering - could be the brake vectoring. BUT - The price point, the maintenance included, the valet service that I received was top notch, that engine was put thru its paces and handled it very well, huge amounts of torque (I enjoy to drive spiritedly when safe to do so- Very very happy with that engine & transmission), many Drive Modes, great sound system and all the safety features. I used that right pedal and my mileage took a big hit. I also drove on eco mode on a highway trip for 100 kms and got 12.6/100 kms. The comparable cars will set you back $15K for similar features and options. I like the looks. My tester had the Blue ext with Red Brembos, dark wheels along with the black & red int. That quilted interior is gorgeous. Really it has every feature that you want AND the drive, sportiness, turning radius, that ENGINE...WOW!!! Cheers from Vancouver, Canada!!

I just got one and I'm going to say Genesis hit it out the park with this car. There's a reason it won 2019 NA car of the year award. I was absolutely shocked when I drove it for the first time for the quality and performance at the price. For an entry level luxury car, they give you all the up to date tech and not to mention the 3.3 twin turbo that gives you that edge when you need it. It's definitely a sleeper too because it looks like a luxury family sedan, but it actually has the power of a Mustang GT under the hood, which catches a lot of people off guard. It also turn heads because they've borrowed from the other successful brands and made it one of their own.

I don't want to drive for two day to another province to get one and then what? go back for every service? I can't get a straight answer about getting the car serviced via Hyundai dealerships. I'm pretty sure they won't show up to my house in NL from Halifax so I can test drive it lol. I don't mind going to NS once to get it, but service will be key.

@@GoofieNewfie I've been looking at this too and on Vancouver Island they don't have the reach yet either though the sales team in Vancouver seems to be rather accommodating and most of the local Hyundai dealers can service this, you just likely won't get the valet benefit off the snap. Genesis - good name for a band...nice no-nonsense review MM. Seriously though, it does set the bar for VFM. Even though we in Australia pay over 70 lge for the top spec model, it still doesn't come with AWD which is a bit shabby I think. Nevertheless, given the crap exchange rate atm, it is still well priced compared to its logical competitors. And the confidence to go with 5 yrs warranty and maintenance etc is great too.

Really good host. Good at communicating the point across without trying to sound cool or cheeky like other videos. Really matters with all the noise out there. As for the review I wish he/they had focused on trim levels like only the 3.3 getting a sunroof, etc. Although he did hit on all the important features. As for the car, having owned M5s and 3 series (and having to maintenance, repair), trying out friends/relatives CLAs and AMGs, it's an observable fact that it has won when driving it and on paper when it comes to performance and comfort ( not to mention dashboard UI). Styling is subjective and so is brand affinity. What makes me give up my BMW addiction and chose this car is the warranty for America. 5 year warranty still, but 10 year Drivetrain warranty and 3 year bumper to bumper. In the end it's cheaper than buying used and no warranty. I also buy cash so the used dealer is not gonna offer a warranty package they won't make money on finance payments from me. Only thing I'm waiting to see when I get the 2020 is wether the Genesis/Kia authorized dealrship treats you like royalty the same way BMW and other luxury brands do. User experience It absolutely matters for the brand image and association with luxury. I personally like to be treated nicely because I'm too nice and it sucks when dealerships maintenancing your car are assholes.

I suggested to Genesis that they send a few cars around to Hyundai dealerships to get some exposure. Here in Canada the G70 has been out for a while. Nobody knows anything about it or the brand. The dealerships or "boutique's" are still nowhere near ready, and it all seems planned badly. Meanwhile they have a few cars now that are quite good. So send some to Hyundai dealerships and get the dealerships to advertise when they will have them for people to try. At least then those of us who will probably never see a "boutique" will fall in love with the car, and go drive somewhere and get it. But they have to allow Hyundai dealerships to do maintenance on them. Honda does this with Acura. Infiniti with Nissan. It'll open up their market.

We can't get the G70 in the US yet. I'm guessing it will be Christmas or next spring before we can get our hands on them. But I seriously considered the Stinger earlier this year. As it turned out it was just a bit too large (long) for my taste. (It's as long as my Sorento, for example.) I recognize the greater practicality of the liftback Stinger but the more compact G70 is more my style (and, as noted, we have the Sorento for practical demands.) I was impressed by the performance of the 2.0L Turbo in the Stinger until I drove the 3.3L version. My advice is if you're interested in the base engine in the G70, don't drive the 3.3L version. :) As far as the shared interior features are concerned, they don't bother me. The Stinger and the G70 share many of the same features and control placements as the Sorento and ours has among the most attractive, ergonomic, and functional interior features of any car I've owned. It's my wife's daily driver and she repeatedly brags about what an intuitive and functional cockpit the Sorento has. As far as negatives are concerned I'm not a fan of the tablet style infotainment screen stuck on the top of the dash but it's a minor negative. Likewise, it seems that quilted upholstery is seen as a sign of "luxury" among a number of manufacturers. I may be alone in this but it reminds me of my grandmother's sofa. I do envy Canadians for the availability of a manual transmission in the base model but I believe we in the US will have a RWD option that's missing in Canada. If that's the case, it softens the blow a bit. All in all Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are increasingly setting a standard for value/quality throughout their product lines. Non-Korean manufacturers should be very, very concerned.

Sure the back seat and trunk is borderline small but for a guy like me who wants a back seat sometimes but prioritizes sporty look and drive, this car hits the spot.... and then there's the price. I'll take one.

It looks just like a Ford Fusion. Just kidding, well it does have similarities to many other brands' models but Hyundai really have hit the nail on the head with this car's styling. It looks expensive, tight, and really nicely proportioned. Mature, confident and not overdone. I totally hope they don't ruin the looks if they do a mid cycle refresh in a couple years. No need, the looks of this sedan can be left as is for years to come, please. Well done. &Hey Zach, how'd U stop aging at 35? Inhaling new car smell? I used to be younger than U! Thanks, enjoy.

@@thatebutuoyguy788 depends on if you want the 3.3 or not. The GT is well spec'd at 45k for sure but the Genesis against its field is a great buy. What killed the Stinger outright for me was the lease rates, currently 3.99 (kia) v 1.49 (Genesis). Genesis also has 5 years of valet servicing included and Kia only had 2 years of free servicing as part of their Oct. deals. Take that and features and I think value wise pulls the G70 Dynamic much closer to the GT in price for value.

Seems like a solid value proposition, especially with that sweetheart V6. Try as I might, I just can't get on board with the aesthetics. The Stinger looks a little more juvenile and it's handles like a bus in comparison, but it's just so cool from certain angles, and the hatch is epic. The front end of the G70 seems overly busy, while the rear end and interior seem overly bland. My Giulia is probably not helping my bias. I wish Alfa would come out with a motor below the Quadrifoglio and above the current 2.0 to better compete because the chassis is second to none.

$10,000 is a LOT of money to go from 4-cylinder to 6-cylinder. Not only that but you burn more fuel, too. For the cost-conscious (and environmentally conscious), the 2.0T is preferable. It's not as if the 2.0T is lacking in power. 252 horses is a LOT of power. I enjoyed driving this car more than my previous Acura 3.2TL, and that car had 225 hp. Also, 260 lb-ft @1400 gives you a LOT of low-end grunt. A digital instrument cluster is nice and cool, but if the screen dies on you, you're stuck. I prefer to have physical analog gauges as a fallback. Have you never experienced a dead computer screen? If you've never driven a Hyundai (I haven't), you wouldn't know that the G70 borrows parts from other Hyundai vehicles.

that number strikes me as a bit odd, I've seen others reviews saying it's actually closer. If you compare the 3.3T AWD with the Stinger 3.3T AWD on the Canadian web site its 1816kg vs the Stinger at 1889kg. That's 4003 to 4164lbs. Now compare the 4cy G70 RWD to a v6 Stinger awd and the difference is more, but not apples to apples.
