Excellent review, thank you. I purchased my 2021 GMC Sierra Denali in March 2021. It’s definitely very well made both inside and out. The interior materials are heavy duty and made to last. GM was correct about the interior options, I don’t want all the luxury stuff, just a truck that’s gonna last. Had my last pickup for 11 years and will probably keep this one as long.

You know, I think most actual professionals I've seen are in smaller Ford and Toyota trucks, usually older ones. These new trucks are HUGE! I like all the cameras and the light test for the trailer, that could save lives and I always found backing up in a truck without a camera a pain. Weird not to have a bench in the front, I guess I must be old.

I have to say, I really appreciate GMs dedication to making their trucks more usable to truck buyers. And the only thing the "RAM" guys can say is that the Interior of their truck is more "luxurious". In terms of design I think it's the best looking pickup truck on the market, but it does not have that same level of interior quality as the new Ram. While it does have more technology such as Magnetic Ride Control carbon fiber bed and the new 10-speed automatic it really needed to focus more on the interior.

I couldn’t care less about having a tablet screen on my dash. Or a leather dash for that matter. Most leather interiors I’ve seen on trucks just a few years old are trashed already because people don’t know the first thing about maintaining a nice interior. So for all those “I want soft touch dash” folks...good luck.

@OSTKCabal6 жыл бұрын
There's no denying that the Ram has the better interior, but the GMC has the far superior driving dynamics, styling (opinion), drivetrain (at least with the 6.2L and 10-speed), interior room, and bed. I just got back from test driving the one Sierra Denali our local dealer has on the lot (3 others were sold basically the moment they arrived) and I came away far more impressed than I thought I'd be. The interior takes the older-gen interior's basic design and turns it up to 11 - much better switchgear, much clearer screens, better materials (eg. real aluminum, more real wood, more soft touch materials), better layout for the switchgear, and generally keeps an attractive - though somewhat aged - design alive.
@wangys5536 жыл бұрын
The sierra denali is ridiculously expensive compared with the ram truck, which can be purchased at just slightly over $40k (huge discount), for a laramie package. Technology wise, nobody knows if the cylinder-shutting stuff will have problems, and how much it will cost for repair, while the ram's 5.7 hemi has been tested for many years.

Perhaps the Sierra can be optioned with an extended bed (about 8'-0" long), enabling that smaller pop tailgate to accommodate 4'x8' plywood or gypsum boards with the inner panel in the vertical position, without having to tie-down. Of course, that usually means a regular or extended cab.

The only dislike I have for GMC/Chevy trucks is with the front seating, I've sat in both (2019 Chevy and 2018 GMC) and they're narrow. Now I'm pretty average back there so it can't be me. RAM, Tundra and Ford have a much more comfortable front seat configuration. Other than that I love the new Sierra.

You can have that "auto stop/start" system. We have that system on our 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and I hate it! I heard a story where someone was on a snowy turnpike in stop and go traffic. The battery went dead from all the stops and goes. My advice is run down to the dealerships now and buy up the 2018's while you can still get em.
@djayt12156 жыл бұрын
well of course, that was an FCA product, why would they actually engineer anything to last? also, what kind of owner doesn't know if there battery is beginning to wear? ever heard of scheduled maintenance?

Cylinder deactivation. I think the word he was trying to reach for or imply was this version of GMC skip deactivation in theory would offer better wear of the engine or more even wear than having the same 4 cylinders deactivated. For now I'll buy into the random deactivation but I'm going to wait a couple years to see how this irons out. I'm looking for a pickup truck but I won't be buying any vehicle that's a first generation model.

I drove one of these yesterday, it was a 2019 Sierra Elevation Double Cab with the 5.3L V8. Thing SUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKSSSS, I've also driven a 98 1500, an 02 2500HD, been in a 05 F-150, and I got to say there's so much wasted potential with the new 1500. It's bigger than the old 1500 while not having as much room, I get that safety features and tech make it hard to keep the interior spacious but come on. Visibility on the new 1500 is god awful, the windshield is tiny, A,B, & C pillars are huge, and the grainy reverse camera only adds to the frustration. Ride is uncomfortable at best, and I honestly got to say that my 2002 Mustang GT rode better even with stiff Koni shocks and struts. There's a lot of tech but none of the staples, I had to drive down some steep canyon roads and was shocked to find no downward hill assist like in my 2010 Escape. After going only half a mile down the canyon and the brakes got heat fade, my foot hit the floor on the brake pedal and I started accelerating. If this all happened in that 98 1500 I drove, that wouldn't have surprised me because its a cheap car. My jaw dropped to find that this damn Elevation 1500 cost roughly $60k leaves no excuse, GM/Chevy has dropped in quality too much.

funny thing is with the "air efficiency" is that the air drag is a small % of the real cost/drag/efficiency issue that vehicles have. Very much why trucks have pretty much maxed out at the 20-22mpg highway rating. If companies would build trucks the same size/weight they did 10-15 years ago with todays engine technology well then we may have a nice package (if you care about fuel economy in a truck). Instead, companies improve everything they can yet still make the vehicles BIGGER and heavier so any fuel savings is negated. Stupid "man step" to get into the back of a 1/2 ton truck! so dumb good times !

They shaved weight (450 lbs.) off the truck, brag about a new cylinder deactivation system, better aerodynamics and it gets the same fuel economy numbers as my 2015 Sierra (which, by the way are a bit inflated). Never got 21 MPG highway or 16 city. The new body style has grown on me since I first saw it but I could never get past the inflated sticker. That's just me. Very in-depth review though.
