Here in the UK I had the CB1300SA7. Red and white with a red frame, reminiscent of the 1980s CB1100R production racer from the early eighties. Lovely looking machine. I absolutely loved that bike. Comfortable, roomy and a tremendous engine. Honda quality in every aspect, a real pleasure to own. Physically big, the seat height is relatively high suiting the taller rider, unfortunately for me. The SA7 model is now a sought-after classic and fetch high prices. I went to a bike shop here in Norfolk last year that had one in, just to look at one for old-time’s sake. When I got there, a guy was in the process of buying it and according to the shop owner, two more potential customers were after it too. I would love to see these bikes for sale outside the Japanese market again. Would I buy one? No, in truth. They would cost £13,000 in the UK if not more. Would I buy one if they did another SA7 red frame CB1100R replica? Oh yes.

I think you might be missing the point of this motorcycle Michael. Aside from engine smoothness, unique exhaust note and visual impact, there's little benefit to justify the extra weight, complexity (cost) and handling deficit an in-line six-cylinder engine has when compared to an inline or V-four engine. That's why current nostalgia motorcycles are based on existing models, they're far superior to old, discontinued designs.

@@USARAY1947 -- Not sure what you mean by that, exactly. I used to own a Kawasaki KZ1300. It came out in 1979 and was a water-cooled, shaft-drive touring bike. It was undersquare, with two valves -- so with water-cooling it was actually quite narrow. But I am telling you -- the smoothness of that engine was worth a billion dollars. It was like a turbine: absolutely smooth. It was a whole different WORLD of internal combustion propulsion. There is NO four-cylinder engine that can duplicate that inline-six smoothness. And I'm a big fan of Honda's V-4's, so don't think I'm some kind of 4-cylinder hater. Short of a new Six, my dream bike would be a VFR1400 -- a new version of Honda's VFR1000 Interceptor from 1984. What a great bike. Don't be mistaken, though. A carefully designed Six can be very narrow AND light. As a matter of fact, Honda's new 2019 Leadwing weighs 100 pounds less than the previous generation of Leadwing. And it's had a horizontally-opposed six-cylinder for 30-some years. Six-cylinder engines ARE worth it.
@USARAY19475 жыл бұрын
@@jeffsmith4801 I was selling those Kawasaki sixes back in the day. Yes they were smooth and one surprised me with a second gear wheelie. However, they were terribly heavy for the time. Remember, this conversation started about the CBX, not the Goldwing. It's apples to oranges. Any inline six is going to be wider than a inline or V four so will be at a disadvantage handling-wise. Of course, handling is secondary to smoothness in a touring bike, which the CBX was not.
@Drunken_Hamster4 жыл бұрын
Bikes should have at least as much HP as NM. Ideally, the same KW as NM. 100nm is roughly 73 lb-ft. At 100hp, that's no bad for a low end biased or low strung bike. 100kw is roughly 134hp. Still great and not over-stressed for a 73 ft-lbs engine. Probably still a great powerband and low end, too. Imo, bikes that do this are ideal to me, no need to go higher like 600cc race replicas which are approaching a 3x power to torque ratio nowadays. Unfortunately, as some have asked for, doing the nm to kw equivalency to the cb1300 WOULD put it around 158HP. Hence why I don't think it either needs to follow the golden rule, OR needs that much displacement and torque. The silver rule (nm to hp) is fine for retro type bikes and actually ideal for beginner bikes. And, just for more exposition, in the car world the rules shift down one notch. Golden is nm to hp, and silver is lb-ft and hp being equal.

To bad the throttle is on the left hand side. See 2:07. I wonder if the gear shift is on the right? Is the clutch lever on the right and the front break on the left top? Does it have a rear break? I would also like to know why I can't by one in the US. I can buy one in the UK but can't ride it there! The list goes on. So I did some research. You can buy this hot baby at Bubba's Iawn Mower Service, Rt.1 Antartica and ship it to Galapagos Islands Ecuador and ride like there's no tomorrow!!

Didn't I own one of these a while back, but a Kawasaki. How much better is this than a good used Zrex for about $5k?

In 2005 talked a friend of mine into purchasing a used 90's "The Big One". It was in like new condition and he only paid 3K for it. I talked him into it knowing i would be able to take it for a ride. The power was pretty good but the handling was horrible in the Palomar mountain twisties. I was on an 05 T100 Bonnie and it handled loads better. It had a certain beauty though and we had a lot of fun joking about riding "The Big One"!

Hahaha 😄. Interesting on the handling side, I'm sure they'll be better nowadays.

I still ride an "83 CB1100f bought new in 83......every year, never lets me down, and is still plenty fast...If Honda were to use the paint scheme of my Blue/White model, and give it serious HP...it'd be a seller. Sadly the CB1100 Honda sells here in the states is a nice bike, it is no "F"....

I own a 2014 CB1100 and a FJR1300. The Honda is fun and a blast from the past with modern amenities. I wish it had a little more than 89 HP. The CB1100 feels like a pit bike once I get back on the FJR with 145 HP. I would add that new CB1300 to my garage in a heartbeat.

I'd drop 20 large out the door for that bike with the side bags tomorrow if it were available in the U.S. It would look so nice next to my CB1100 and FJR1300.

I own a cb1000 big one that I brought new in 1995 and I can't bring myself to get rid of it as it's one of the best bike's I've owned and I've owned a lot since I started rideing bikes in 69, being a Honda it never breaks down, tyre choice is a bit limited but other than that it has no downsides
@BikesILike5 жыл бұрын
Wow! I can fully understand why you still own it.

I had a 2008 CB1300S (half fairing). Yes in stock form they arent powerhouses, but with full akra,K&N, PC3, and opened up airbox my bike made 130rwhp. Very easy and cheap mods. The bike makes 118nm of torque at low rpm, it has a redline of 8500rpm but can go over that in the lower gears. You can purchase rev limiter bypass for them from Japan. This is with stock 9.6ish compression and stock internals. They run on 91ron fuel, nothing is as low stressed as one of these bikes. Handling is exceptional for a steel frame of this type (UJM). Some basic mods like fork brace, uprated springs and decent tyres transform them. Power delivery and good torque for its era (2003), 310km range, comfy riding position and quality build make it best in class. Five years of ownership and many great rides endeared this bike to me. And yes I still enjoy riding its Grandpappy (my CB1100F Super Bol'dor) including period wobbly frame :)

It is basicaly a XJR 1300 with watercooled engine. Power figures are almost identical. Even the rear shocks are the same as well on the Yamaha SP - models l as on the Honda SP - models. What is funny, Öhlins is owned by Yamaha.

Nice Video and amazing bike! It reminds me somehow of my 919 which is ine of the few supernakeds beought to the US. I ride it most days and I would consider the 13000SP as a replacemenr. If! They brought it to the Usa!

It actually causes me emotional distress that I can't buy this bike because I live in the USA. I love my FJ1200 but would unload it today if I could buy this.

Really surprising in the advertised power. Seems really low considering the engine displacement. I wonder if they’re purposely underrated.

It's the reliability factor. CB1300 engine can be operated 100K+ miles without "opening" it to more than valve clearance.

@leviefrauim14255 жыл бұрын
It's too bad Honda doesn't bring a bike like this to the US, especially in this retro era. Some of us more seasoned folks don't care for the current angular cuts so many manufacturers are inflicting upon their bikes nowadays & the more more familiar form of the UJM rings truer to function meeting form. And while power output from the 1300cc seems adequate, I'd have to ask why so low in HP/torque. Conversely, why is the price so high, especially on the Bols D'or model? As much I'd love to have this bike, that price would dissuade me from purchasing.

My first street bike was a Honda CB1100F 1983 and blue instead of red., just like the one on the picture.

Imagine that bike with modern power around 150 hp and 80+ torque. No wheelie control or rider modes. Just abs maybe . I don’t usually buy off the showroom floor but may for a bike like that. I’m sure it’s still quick but even the 1200 vfr has way more hp. What were the thinking. It’s name is the big one but don’t think they can keep that nickname for this version. Still nice bike though

Nice wrap up Mr BIL! Syd - Aust. - I love my 2004 Super 4! It's the 'classic' white with metallic red features on the tank and rear / under seat plastics. I've had the front shock recon done (Springs / valves / oil grade / slider polish) for my 105kg frame, and run cold pressures 40PSI front and 34PSI rear. She's got 110,000km now and the valve clearances are still within spec. It's a little notchy down low with the Delkevic slip on and baffle removed, but it doesn't spend much time in that lower band rev range. Can anyone please tell me if its possible to swap a later model 6spd box onto these motors (of course with a tune)...? I'd love the lower RPM for the lazier weekend get aways with my girl pillion.

I was puzzled by the fact that Honda is not selling CB1100 or 1300 retro design products in the US and Canada market while Kawasaki is very successful in selling its very popular Z900RS similar retro design bike.
