I'm glad that DCT is gone. But they took the 1.6 out. I would hopefully thought they would put the 2.0T with the 8 speed. That would be awesome. And have the 2.4 as the base engine.

It's interesting how people are whining so much about the MPG's on the window sticker but they don't make any comments about the window sticker indicating a 5 star safety rating in ALL categories except rollover which most SUV's get a 4 star or the 10 year/100K warranty.

I would agree the Santa Fe is closer in both size and price, but I think having the Tucson is also a good strategy for Hyundai. The CR-V and RAV4 have gotten so big they kind of lose the appeal of a small SUV for city driving that you can easily park.

The DCT is also used in the Hyundai ioniq and the Kia Niro both the regular hybrid and the plug-in hybrid version. I actually think the DCT works better in those cars, because the electric motor gets the car moving and you don't have that slipping the clutch issue did you often find with DCT.

I really like the design but why kill the turbo option? That particular engine/transmission combo had some problems yes, but it's about time for all new 4 cylinder engines at Hyundai/Kia anyway *ahem* this segment has turbos now, not having one keeps this car from truly competing.

This seems to compete more with the HR-V, C-HR, and Crosstrek in terms of interior space and engine. I don't see people cross-shopping between this and the CR-V or Rav4, as seen by sales.

My question is why and why was the 1.6 liter-GDI/7-speed DCT power train removed for the Tucson 2019 models? (179HP/195 LBS./FT.). Hyundai's power train engineering division should had further improved the current setup by increasing the power/torque figures and additional programming to the power train's software and other possible technical enhancements. Now power and torque figures went quite down which increases the weight/power ratio and therefore will eventually decrease fuel mileage figures, driving and acceleration performance. That's my assessment but I might be wrong but man, I find unfortunate Hyundai's decision for this power train swap.

It has a 6 speed automatic. That's why the mpg's are a bit disappointing. I'm guessing no one bought the 1.6Turbo, so they got rid of it. Shaun the Turbo Tucson was the selling factor of the Tucson. It gave you the throw-you-back-in-the-seat fun and performance you expect from a small crossover. I've actually surprised a bunch of people with how fast my car is. A lot of people didnt expect it to feel so powerful. It is one of the faster offerings in the segment, and again, Hyundai made a horrible decision to get rid of the turbo.
@austing4321
@austing4321 5 жыл бұрын
While I agree that the lack of the turbo is disappointing, for most shoppers, the appeal of a Tucson was it's style which is better looking than most in the segment, it's reliability, very friendly interior layout, and a lot of standard features. It'll still sell fine but some Auto enthusiasts like you will be disappointed although I don't know why you would consider an SUV in the first place if you're looking for driving fun
@seanmikhaels

Austin Rice I’m spoiled my daily is a golf r :-). I’m not expecting that kind fun per se in this class but every single suv in this segment has nothing exciting or sporty to offer other than maybe the CX-5. The 1.6t added s little excitement, something different. The thing is each suv has something that makes it stand out , RAV4 , reliability , CRV, cargo space & fuel economy , CX-5 sporty dynamics , 2019 Tucson ? Good looks? Potentially, but that’s subjective.
@austing4321
@austing4321 5 жыл бұрын
@@seanmikhaels well I would say the Tucson and the RAV4 are equally reliable but the Hyundai undeniably is better designed or more thoughtfully designed then the Toyota. Since 2014, Hyundai has had better built Interiors than new Toyotas. But look I understand where you are coming from, I love the turbo myself and I hope someday they do add it back but maybe this engine will surprise us. Still plenty of other reasons to shop for it though which was my point.

I have 2015 Tucson and I'm sad to see the 1.6 Turbo go but it's good they got rid of that dual clutch transmission. Hyundai already had recall on the dual clutch transmission on 2016 literally 1 year after the redesigned version. The dual clutch on my Tucson still have issues when the car is in slow speed. It won't shift down to 1st gear when in low speed and if you hit the gas pedal the car jerks and then shift down or up. It's a really annoying transmission issue 😑 . I'm seriously concerned about the longevity of my dual clutch transmission. Hopefully Hyundai will keep their promise about warranty if something unfortunate happens!

Poorly integrated infotainment, and insufficient power from the 2.4L engine (RAV 4 gets more power from a NA Engine of the same size). After seeing what Hyundai did with the Kona, I expected better from the Tuscon. I hope they put the Ioniq hybrid system into this car for the extra boost and improvement in fuel economy. @@btuthill9653 1st , always use a good high quality synthetic oil (Mobil 1 , Valvoline modern engine , and Pennzoil come to mind) and despite what the industry and environmentalists say change it every 3000 miles! Turbos are EXTREMELY expensive to replace! 2nd , if it's a GDI (gasoline direct injection) engine it is imperative that you have the GDI system cleaned out at regular intervals. Depending on how and where you drive you'll have to ask your technician about this. 3rd , ALWAYS use a high-quality top tier gasoline. This doesn't mean premium unless your car is manufacturer specifies it. You can look up what top tier gasoline is but generally speaking stay with the name brand gasoline's and stay away from the "mom-and-pop" gas stations. I hope that helps.

Roman my wife has a 2000 10 Tucson and she loves it. It does drive a little rough in the rear but it's first going on at first set of brakes and pads and rotors at a hundred and twenty four thousand. The car looks like she first bought it besides the sideswipe in the rear and a door ding on a front right fender but this 2.4 has a lot of torque. We have five Hyundai's in our family 1 Sonata to Elantras make that two sonatas and one Tucson and we just love these vehicles. Now that it's paid off now it's Just Tires in general maintenance.

John Jay Drott: I have a 2013 Santa Fe with 90,000 miles and my story is exactly the same as your wife’s. Original brakes and rotors still, looks brand new (except where some jerk keyed me a while back, I need to fix that so she looks new when she hits 100k). This is my second Hyundai and both have been great cars. I can’t believe the number of people who just dismiss them based on a 30-year-old reputation. My car has the 2.0 turbo with 264 horsepower which is a fantastic engine, but honestly doesn’t get nearly the fuel economy advertised, no better than a V6 would have been. Not to mention the downsides the powertrain has compared to a v6 (less towing capacity and higher maintenance costs). If Hyundai were to stop putting a turbo 4 in and replace it with a 3.0 v6 I’d probably trade it in in a heartbeat. In terms of the Tucson getting rid of the turbo (which apparently had less horsepower but more torque than the 2.4) and the dual clutch will probably make the car more reliable with very little change in power or fuel economy. It makes sense to me and I kinda wish they’d do the same for the Santa Fe.

Yes but it's also less expensive. The CRV was my first choice but Honda wouldn't budge on the price.

I feel like so many car makers are going both forwards but backwards with so many things. Everytime I see a new design that looks like it's the winner then they end up putting a cvt randomly in it or gimp on the powertrain... Or the refresh has everything improved but now looks worse than it did before.

points you missed while going over the dash controls what is new vs the 2017 ultimate . Auto brake hold, electronic brake , and then you mention lane keep , but lane keep was on the 2017 and now in 2018 land keep assist which actually pulls you back into your lane. IMO Hyndai got rid of the dual clutch because of the complaints of overheating in rush hour traffic. However IMO a 6 speed automatic sucks, and I am sure has a crap load of rev hang . You did mention adaptive cruise control and the wi fi charger. ALso there is no excuse Hyndai for not putting in AUTO up and down for the passenger and back seats.. The NA engine is a step backwards for 2019 and so is the automatic 6 speed... The ford escape is still king with 2.0 echo boost and cargo space, with better tech.. The hyndai seats IMO is like siting on a Concrete SLAB . They do offer the best warranty in the business which you should have mentioned as well

buddy the dct was absolute garbage on the Tucson. Especially in 2016. My god the stuttering was absolutely horrible. I work at the dealer so I drove all models. Surprisingly the dct in the Elantra sport is kinda fun and doesn't stutter as much. But the Tucson's was horrid to say the least. I dont even know why they're offering the 2.0l anyways. It's so weak for a car of the size.

Buyer: so this car looks pretty quick, how much power does it have? Salesperson: oh yes we’ll this one has 164 horsepower but with this new touch screen it might as well be 300 horse power..... forget about merging onto the highway...because you can find restaurants near you with apple car play. Buyer: oh hell yeah, apple car play on a 7” screen, this thing is basically a Mercedes, I’ll take it. So how much does it cost? Salesperson: that depends, how much do you want your payment to be....? Hehe, these screens are genius, does absolutely nothing but now we can sell cars with tiny engines for more money because it has “technology”!
