I have a new 19 Wrangler Sahara, and taking delivery of our /wife's new 19 Cherokee Limited on Saturday. I've had Jeeps, Toyota's, Honda's, Land Rovers, Kia's. Fords, Chevy's, you name it I've had it. Always loved my Jeeps, from 1990 new to 97 new, to now and Never had any major mechanical issues. My Toyota Tundra electrical system was horrible. Honda Ridgeline I loved but had quite a few brake jobs. VW Tiquan was excellent even though it had a horrible reliability history with Consumer Reports. My Ford F-150 was bulletproof. My 4 Land Rover/Range Rovers were all unbearably unreliable from start to finish. I could go on and on. Jeeps have a spotty reliability history, but I've had great luck with them, as did quite a few people I know. This new Cherokee is really nice!!!. If you feel like complaining about something you don't own and haven't owned, do it somewhere else.

I've watched numerous vehicle reviews, but this one is the most professionally filmed, informative, and crisply edited presentation I've encountered thus far in my youtube meanderings. Fantastic Jeep model by the way. My favorite 2019 model Jeep Cherokee is the Trailhawk from both an aesthetic and offroad capability perspective, but the entire Cherokee line for 2019 and newer are both visually appealing and very capable from a performance standpoint.

Its not worth it though. Why get a Cherokee if you aren't going to tow, since its class leading. But you can't get the tow package with the turbo unless you get the top transmission choice with the crawl gears, which together with the turbo upcharge makes it extremely expensive. The V6 is a much better deal and runs quieter.

Here in Europe you can get it with a proper 6 speed manual transmission and a 2.0 diesel with 170 HP that gets 35 mpg.
@mountainhobo6 жыл бұрын
The European fantasy mpg ratings are cool. You can keep the diesel (more expensive to buy, expensive in maintenance, and nightmare to repair), but manual transmission would be nice. That I am jealous of.
@denisilyayev18786 жыл бұрын
does it come with a muslim family in the back seat?
@weedmastersr6 жыл бұрын
It's the real world mpg. The official fantasy rating is 45 mpg. As I said, it gets 35 real world mpg. Diesel is about 30 cents per liter cheaper to buy here. Maintenance is also no issue as the 2.0 diesel from Fiat is very common. The repair can get expensive if something like the injectors fail, but it won't as Fiat makes some of the most reliable diesel engines. It's the electronics that I worry about. The manual is what makes this Jeep acceptable in my view. It's dead reliable and gives full control, unlike the ZF9 speed.
@weedmastersr6 жыл бұрын
Sorry but I've never seen a Muslim here in Eastern Europe. They're extremely rare.
@mountainhobo6 жыл бұрын
No, sorry, still not buying the diesel bit. Diesels are great if you want to tow. Also, the diesel fuel is more expensive here (US) than gasoline, by a good margin. In passenger cars diesel just does not make financial sense here. Manual transmission, however, would definitely make it nice. Also, since I do not live in Colorado and don't have to worry about driving at crazy elevations, I would rather skip the small turbo in favor of a normally aspirated V6. In the end, however, this is all rather academic. I don't think I would buy it anyway. The only Jeep I lust for is the Wrangler. Jeep == Wrangler. Since I live in a big city (at least until I retire), Wrangler makes little sense, though. I will give it some time. If the Cherokee improves its reputation for reliability at least to Honda's level, I will consider it. -- What part of Eastern Europe?

We had a 2016 Cherokee. Worst vehicle we’ve ever had. 4 trips to the dealer to fix a rattle in the sunroof, differential blew and had to be replaced after 10k, automatic lift gate wouldn’t shut a few times, heated seat wouldn’t shut off twice - even after turning the car off, and the final straw was when a pile of smoke poured out of the exhaust on a cold start once. Never had any issues or jerkiness with the 9sp, but way too many other problems that made this our first and last Jeep.

Why last? Surely you realize that not all Jeeps have the same amount of problems, and that not all Jeeps in the future will inevitably have the same amount of problems as yours?

I just looked at another review of the 2019 Cherokee, and they said the ZF 9-speed was still an issue. They tested a Trailhawk and an Overland, both with the turbo 2.0 4, and they said " this nine-speed’s lag problem is far from cured by the new engine; it’s merely less frequent and less noticeable at lower speed" and for passing, there was a very noticeable 2 to 3 second lag when hitting the gas pedal that "tests the limits of what’s safe and reasonable." Looking back, did you notice any of what they reported?

I bought a 2019 Cherokee Latitude Plus 09/2019 - I put 6300 miles on it - Transmission was laggy, motor was great, interior was really nice (especially for a Jeep), Electronics are horrible. Last week the vehicle went in to Limp mode due to an issue with the EGR - had to have it towed 70 miles to the dealer (Chrysler only paid for 53 miles of this). The day we took delivery (around 100 miles on vehicle due to dealer trade) the cruise control switch didn't work. 2 weeks into ownership the windshield cracked due to an install error (Chrysler replaced). After picking the car up from the EGR problem, 2 days later the entire infotainment screen went out. Dealer said it was an update. I no longer have this vehicle as I do not trust it - I now have a Mazda CX5 - couldn't be happier so far. I cannot recommend the Jeep Cherokee, or Chrysler products based on my experience with this for approximately 2.5 months.

Brian - I am considering to purchase an Overland. I drove the 3.2L V6 last week, and I drove the 2.0T today. As we left the dealership, the tank was about empty, so the salesperson put in about 1/2 a tank of Regular 87 octane at a Shell station. I drove it for about 10 miles, and IMHO, this engine was way more responsive than the V6. I did a couple of 0-60 runs, but of course did not time them. I also contacted Chrysler, and DL'd the owners guide. The car will operate safely on REG gas, and that is all that is required. They do recommend premium for the best performance. I don't think I would bother unless I was climbing in the mountains, or towing.

I think it should be highly noted when a vehicle comes with a spare tire considering manufacturers are using our safety or lack of, to justify fuel savings and cargo capacity.

Actually it is a Mopar designed engine when Fiat took over they took the engine and had Alfa modify it for their needs. Even though the two engines are of the same design there is quite a bit of differences between the two...... It is like some of the engines from Global Engine Alliance which was Mitsubishi Kia/Hyundai and Chrysler same architecture but completely different engines all together. This has been frequently discussed on Allpar forums... The 2.0l Alfa engine is a closed deck design whereas the one Jeep and other models to come is of a open deck design. Great video; Most reviewers miss the key mission of this Jeep being a go anywhere vehicle. I'm looking at cars like the Audi Allroad and Land Rover products and think this Jeep offers a lot of value and capability. Its in a class of one being truly off road capable, luxurious, and relatively affordable @ ~$36K for a Trailhawk. I personally think the Cherokee competes more with Land Rover i.e. Discovery Sport and less so with the mainstream SUVs. My wife has the CRV EXL and although a good car, it doesn't have the ride & NVH refinement, solidity, and capability of the Cherokee esp Trailhawk V6 I test drove. Entry models aside, the Cherokee drives and feels more like a luxury car than the mainstream SUVs mentioned in this video. Lets hope Jeep/FCA has overcome some of the old reliability issues.

Ket Lim great points, couldn’t agree more. Drove the CRV and Cherokee back to back. Wasn’t even close - Cherokee drove way better. CRV has better gas mileage, more storage and that’s pretty much it. Reliability is brought into the equation if you plan on keeping the car more than 5 years and risk being outside of warranty. I would gather that less than 10% of buyers keep their cars longer than that.

Just because rough shifting is a design trait of 9sp doesn’t mean it’s acceptable. So they haven’t improved the shifts at all in refresh?
@Tubeofbeans6 жыл бұрын
CarGuy11 I have a 16 Cherokee haven’t noticed any rough shift at all. I do notice that it’s slow to downshift when I step on the gas but that problem is solved once I put it in sports mode.

Personally know somebody higher up who works within Chrysler/Jeep and he has explained that Jeep would love to fix this problem but the FMVSS keeps denying proposed changes.

I don't know why they don't just put he 8 speed in all of the vehicles. From what I've heard, the 8 speed is fantastic.

The 8sp is for RWD longitudinal powertrains only.

What people don't understand is if you aren't feeling an automatic transmission's shifts its slipping between gear changes creating heat and excessive wear. You want to feel those shift points, otherwise you are just counting days till it fails.

What about reliability, service & maintenance cost of the 2.0L Turbo over the 3.2L V6? Are they both Direct Injected? Oil change & lubrication intervals the same? Other than this and missing the ground clearance differences between the 4x4 systems... really solid review Alex! Always appreciated! Aloha! 🤙🏼
@mopar0IIII0jeep5 жыл бұрын
The 2.0 is direct injected the 3.2 is not. The 2.0 has a shorter oil change interval and requires 0w20 compared to the 3.2 which takes 5w20. Also worth noting is that the 2.0 has a recommendation of premium fuel, if not using premium it loses some performance and won't achieve the hp and tq figures listed where the 3.2's figures are based on the use of 87 octane. We just bought a 2019 Cherokee and we decided on the 3.2, if is a proven engine that makes good power and gets decent mpg's. I am Leary of any with a turbo and direct injection seems to have a ton of issues with carbon build up so we went with the "keep it simple stupid" approach when making or choice...lol

@@mopar0IIII0jeepJust about ever SUV being sold is all 4 Cylinder with Turbo. The V6 is being phased out and reserved for the higher trim on luxury cars. And I’m hearing that the Cherokee will soon be discontinued. There is an actual lawsuit over the use of the tribal name Cherokee.

Any suggestions on what car I should get as a first new car. I'm between the wrangler and cherokee. I will most likely lease it. I want something fun and reliable. I case it matters I've owned 3 grand cherokees between the model years 1999-2004. I'm just tired of used cars.

Fun is subjective. You will have to try both and see which is more fun for you. Reliability for Jeep is below average, but reliability for any particular model is unknown to me. It's possible that one very unreliable model among average or above average reliability models can bring the average score down for the brand.

At least if you get a wrangler if you purchase it. You’ll get 80% what you paid for it New in 3-4 years. Wranglers have about the best resale/trade in value after the Toyota Tacoma

I was thinking about a Trailhawk version but when I saw an old guy fold himself into a more basic version the thing just really looks smaller in person than the specs would indicate. Without the wheels and lift and such you realize it is just a $23,000 compact, based on a car, and that it probably isn't built that well.

My 2017 Build Quality is superior. I have 20k on it and have had no mechanical difficulties. I am 6'3" 290 lb and have no problems with the space in the jeep. Two weeks ago I did an overland ride with a local club. My stock Trailhawk easily kept up with several large overland builds. Even with the stock AT's while the others had tires ranging in the 35 - 38 range. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpzXZWmfaJqkj7s

My opinion, each version of Jeep Cherokee is Great and has a wide variety of options according to the driver's needs. What bothers me is the tuned exhaust, when Accelerating into traffic the exhaust says look at me "I am noisy". Too much noise in rural areas, my wife enjoys her Cherokee Elite anyway.
