@@jonomasonILoveU I did get the 390 and it is everything I expected and more. I absolutely love it . I have had it for nearly two years and and have no way ‘out grown’ it. It's reviews like this that convinced me to buy the Duke 390. I took delivery of a new one in Sept 2019 and it's an absolute blast to ride. I've done about 900 miles on it and had no reliability issues other than the engine cut out a couple of times when coming to a stop. I've owned about a dozen bikes over a 40 year period, but this is the most fun. Plenty of poke too! Thanks EnglishBikerDan :o)

I've owned one of these since 2017 when this model came out and still love it. I've added comfort ergo seats, a power parts screen, tail tidy and a black widow end can. For the money new I don't think you can get a better bike. I do also own a Z1000SX now but still love riding the little duke. Only downside is the lack of wind protection on motorways or duel carriageways at 70 plus can be hard work. Otherwise the bike copes with everything and is fun for anyone regardless of skill level.

It absolutely is a wonderful bike! I've owned one for 3 months now and it is a joy to ride. Even during break-in (shiftin at 6000 rpm and no full throttle), it's got plenty of power. There hasn't been a moment I wanted more. A lot of people are afraid it's got overheating problems, but there's nothing of that kind. If you ride in lower rpm's, it will do about 320km on a tank. One of the things I like the most is the brilliant headlight. It's all fun that it switches from DLR to dip automatically, but it works an absolute charm. It really turns night into day.

I got my A2 a couple of months ago and I had the same ''problem'' with you mate. I am pretty sure that the duke is better than the mt03 as it provides more torque and more punch because of the single cylinder and it may be the best option out of the two for commuting. It also has all this equipment such as racing syspension (White Power) , ABS , full LED lights , ByBre brakes ( a company owned by Brembo wich are the best beakes out in the market) and the TFT display screen. I think it's clear between the two , which is better.

I am an experienced rider. Never had a sporty bike though. Always cruisers or UJM's. Rode a friend of mines Duke 390 and instantly fell in love with it. Does everything I ever wanted. Just as good at higher speeds than my old sportster 1200 was while feeling 1000x lighter. Just a quick as my old silverwing 500. and right at home with my 82 KZ750. Such a potent little engine, coupled with a light weight chassis and some of the best stock suspension I have ever ridden. I am buying one of these bikes. I was looking at used 690's but for 3k cheaper for the 390 and my needs, I do not see a reason to spend more.

You picked the perfect road to showcase what the 390 is all about... and small cc bikes are a huge wedge of fun. The 390 to me was like the old 2T 125's of my yoof, such a giggle. I really wanted to love mine when I had it, but the issues mine suffered with and many other people have also had similar made me doubt it's reliability and survivability. I am not a wheelie kinda guy and mine fried a clutch in under 4000 miles, it needed it's dash replacing twice, the ECU had a meltdown on my second day of ownership and had to be replaced. I really wish it didn't have the slipper clutch, I wish the rear brake was stronger and the suspension was stiffer front and rear. It was an amazing bike, but compared to the previous version it felt very cheap. The previous model felt a lot stronger.

@@Englishbikerdan I don't think that they have learnt from the issues that the 390 has as they have fitted the same dash to the 790 adventure too and I have seen the waterfall of condensation in that too. Nice review, love the enthusiasm & the bike as well. I really think smaller bikes is where it's at presently. Personally I'd rather use a smaller bike to it's full potential than tip toe about barely scratching the service of a bigger one. A lot of it is ego & posing on the big bikes as hardly anyone ever has the skill or opportunity to go anywhere near their potential on road or even the track tbh. Been there & done it myself many times over the years. Great to own but almost a waste really, for me at least. As bikes get bigger, more powerful & more expensive as well as there being endless chances to lose your license, something like this shows there's still plenty of cheap & cheerful legal fun to be had. The Kawasaki Ninja & Z400 seem to be along the same lines so may be worth you trying them out too. Although the KTM is supppsedly quicker, but it's definitely prettier & cooler imo.

Fun fact the duke 390 is made in india by an automotive brand named Bajaj. And its a bit different in india it has a grab handel and has a guard on the left side of the rear wheel for pillion. Cuz in india woman wear clothes that look like really weird and long dresses and its called saree. And it has leg guards on both sides to protect the rider's legs ina crash and it also helps in a tip over. and that has an issue, the bolt comes loose after a few miles and the leg guard punches a hole in the rad Which is not cheap to replace in india. if you wish to remove then it leaves an ugly gap in the plastic pieces where everything used to be. Personally i would love to own the model they make for non india customers.

I've got the 125cc version and I agree with everything you say. I'm going to do my motorbike test before the end of the year and I want to upgrade to the 390. On the other hand, this years newly remodelled Honda CB500F is looking quite tempting too (especially the orange version :).

Just got my new Duke 2 days ago and gotta say it really surprised me how good it is. Not pushing it, I did some twisties and motorway at 110km/h. It’s my weekender fun bike BUT, stalling stalling stalling🤯, had multiple stalls coming up to stops, and intersections with yield. 2 very uncomfortable stalls, one was when entering a traffic circle with right of way, engine stalls right in the middle of the intersection. Imagine engine stalls and first thing that happens is bike comes to a sudden stop as I’m in 3rd gear, car behind me nearly takes me out. Then today, on a 100 km speed zone , I go to overtake and half way through overtaking the engine stalls again, dead,, nothing, this time leaving me stranded at 100ks going to zero with a car heading towards me as I’m stranded in the overtaking zone. Weird how it will go without incident for 20 minutes or so of great fun and the fail. It’s happened enough for me to take it back to the dealer. So I went online first and searched for similar issues and was blown away how many people have had this issue, and concerned on the comments made that KTM don’t publicly no the cause. I called the dealer and they said don’t worry about it, it will pass once you’ve ridden the engine in, yeah RIGHT, AND I MUST RISK MY LIFE DOING IT. not happy

Not sure if you still have the bike and still face the issue. But anyway copy+pasting potential solutions from teambhp : "Here are a few points for you to check and troubleshoot: 1. Dirty Throttle body/ injector. We had cleaned the throttle body and injector at 6000km due to some bad fuel and rusting in the tank. This seemed to make the issue a bit better. 2. Sensors: There are multiple sensors that can trigger an engine cut off on a new KTM. My bike for instance had a faulty side stand sensor. Sometimes, it would activate even when the side stand was up and kill the engine. Also, someone mentioned a faulty clutch sensor. This is possible maybe? Not sure. We didn't make any changes to the clutch sensor. 3. The ride by wire system itself: I don't entirely trust the way it reacts, especially at idle and low revs. Maybe it is cutting the throttle too much when it shouldn't, or maybe the fuelling and timing isnt syncing up for some reason. This would be an ECU problem. Re flashing the ECU from KTM may help if thats the case. 4. KTMs run very lean at low rpms from the factory. This has always been the case, however for bs4 and bs6 I think they've made the setup even more lean. When my friend's RC used to stall, the feeling was almost similar to the bike not getting enough fuel and coughing to a halt suddenly. Solutions: Easy: Use some sort of injector cleaner, like liqui moly 4t Shooter and maybe get the throttle body cleaned and fuel filter replaced. Also, ask if its possible to get a ECU reflash just in case there are any issues with ECU. Hard: If none of those fix the problem, then its potentially a deeper mechanical issue. Make sure you diagnose it from KTM, and then claim warranty. I've found that involving KTM on social media and emailling their customer service helps in making warranty claims, even more entire engine blocks"

I'm in SEA and have a Suzuki GSXs 150 (19HP). It's a fun little rider but I see myself transitioning to the Duke 390 in a year or 2. I thought about the Duke 200 but that's just a small (7HP) upgrade...might as well go bigger. Where I live they're starting a 'big bike" special driving license requirement for bikes of 400cc or bigger. Lovely that this falls just under that threshold and seems to be such a good ride. I like the HP to weight ratio as I'm not that big or strong of a person (seat height is a concern). In my youth I rode 650cc bikes in the USA.

I have owned one of these over 4 years now and already commented on what a great little bike it is. Best in class for sure but and there is a but. MIne lives outside and recently its started to rust and corrode quite a bit. Even though I'm always spraying it all over with ACF50. The worst is on the metal part between the headlights has bubbled up and some paint has even come off. Its also only got 4000miles on but will soon need a new chain already. Oh and its starting to struggle to start too. So yes fab bike but maybe not the best build quality. Will be selling mine soon.
