Amazing how they can do so many things right, yet so many things wrong at the same time. Not offering a manual transmission in the sport trim, or any of the higher trims at all, in my opinion is a big mistake. The AWD is extremely appealing, but not pairing it with the more powerful engine is also a big mistake. Let's hope, as said in the video, that in a couple of years they realize this and fix all the issues and give us what we actually want!
@OnTheRocks716 жыл бұрын
Their reasoning for not having AWD available with the turbo engine sounds like bs to me too. I'd bet the CVT coupled with the AWD and extra torque weren't meeting reliability/fuel economy metrics.
@kevinschmitt976 жыл бұрын
Although they do offer a sport trim remember this is only a sedan not a sports car. No one looks at a sedan hoping it comes with a stick shift.

If they offered awd with the 2.0T engine no one is going to buy the Q50 with the base engine, which is also a 2.0T. Plus 2.5 with awd is already in the Rogue. Cost of R&D is way lower.

I have a 2014 Altima SV with the 2.5 and CVT. I can get over 40mpg on the Highway doing 70 if I baby it, and 34+ City driving again babying it. The car is pretty quick as well, and it had the Tranny reprogrammed to 'help' with the failure issues... That said I do feel the rubber band effect, never realized what that feeling was until I started researching Altimas. The engine feels like it's trying to put more power down, but the tranny is delayed. I only feel it when passing or accelerating when the car's already moving, and it just feels... Weird. STILL love the car though but all that Tranny issues has me worried.

@Suction_6 жыл бұрын
Agree, it seems way to complex for the common consumer. Consider getting these used too, especially when people beat them and dont maintain them properly. They should have spent the money getting a good trans and just fine tuning their old 2.5 - the benefits of the VC for MPG really isnt that great, Mazda 6 2.5T is only a 2-3 MPG numbers off and its no where near as complex as this
@JDMHaze6 жыл бұрын
emark24 Yes a Mazda pretty much made a diesel engine without making a diesel engine if you get when I'm saying, because they basically use the same high compression Ratio strategy, and it worked for them and this is going on a few years now so I don't understand why the hell Nissan went 300 miles basically to do the same thing , I mean this was in elaborate design to force customers into the dealership

The design language of this looks great for the most part. Everyone always wants to crap on cvts. You're looking at an Altima not a GT3 calm down. I drove a 2015 Murano for 3 years and the transmission was fine, never gave me a problem. And to a degree I have faith in this new variable compression engine technology. I'd lease one if I was in the market for a midsize car
@99-Zulu6 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is a problem that Nissan is using cvts, but there is a problem with who supplies Nissan the cvts. If Jatco put chains instead of belts on the cvts it would probably get rid of the rubber band effect, while increasing reliability. Belts tend to stretch while chains tend retain their size. But nothing is perfect.

☝️Considering you find the new Avalon that comes with an atrocious gaping grill at no additional cost attractive, I'd take you what consider "ugly duckling" with a grain of salt.
@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet49476 жыл бұрын
+jmasoncar s The new Avalon's grille may not be for everyone (as within the design of basically any car), but it looks sleek, well sculpted, and works very nicely with the overall (already stylish) design, and really cohesively, while looking more aggressive in a fashionable demeanour, rather than plain-jane vanilla of the prior Avalons. Also well-proportioned all around, the dramatic styling actually works there, without doing too much. (like the new Camry to a degree) The Accord on the other hand, seems like the opposite in my book. It's front looks blocky, the chrome strip looks too thick, and below it looks like something came off. If they were about to place the Honda Sensing camera on the front, they could've placed it behind the Honda emblem. And overall, it looks a bit dated, and I don't think it works with the overall car. I didn't knew how they even went from the CR-V's nice looking front that actually works regardless, to this honestly. And design is subjective, so if you say so.

@@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947 Coming from someone who loves and respects all cars and automobile manufacturers (including Honda), I'll have to admit the new Accord looks quite ugly and weird. But I've seen worse designs. And you're right about the Avalon, bro. That thing looks gorgeous, and is honestly Toyota's best-looking vehicle in latest memory. The new Camry looks great too, but I do agree that some of the design touches were a bit much to me (ex: the two-tone black roof, red leather, and the fake rear vents that stick out of the tailights)

Altima isn’t offering AWD on lower trims because hey want to “make it available for everyone”. It’s because of a layout issue with the turbo engine. The fact that it’s not available on turbo trims reflects the fact that it’s obviously not “available for everyone”

Very finicky transmission. If you lease okay. But if you are buying a car for the long run. I rather get the traditional transmission. Also, how does it handle in the snow with AWD and CVT? Low-end torque is not CVT forte. More for MPG.

Love these videos. Just a suggestion, can we get a full body pan of the vehicles? No swooping or swooshing the camera past body panels like the commercials do, but a nice, rotation almost, of the full vehicle while some voice-over or some nice music is playing so we can see the vehicle from headlights to taillights. I wanted to see the rear of this car and all I saw was a taillight, and it driving past the camera on the streets. I watched the video again and the rear end wasn't shown in full detail at all. The front end was shown in like 20 shots. Still, a big fan, just pointing this out.

Hey! Great video, but one thing I don't really understand is the tire choice. I'm from Europe, and I've got separate sets of summer and winter tires (Continental Sport Contact 5 and Nokian WR D4) on a C Merc. Could you please make a video why automakers prefer those tires that are on the silver Altima there than just putting regular summer tires on especially in states where there are literally no winter? Thanks. :)

I can absolutely appreciate the fact that Nissan like Toyota, Honda and Mazda has invested heavily in their midsized sedans. Ford missed this boat lol . With that said, I think they missed an amazing opportunity here to offer AWD on the higher trims with the turbo engine. Also, with all the documented failure issues of their CVT I hope wish and pray that they put in as much work into making this generation better for the long term. Kudos to you Nissan! Cheers.

Lots of vehicles make good power with turbo's and get mid 30s MPG without the complication of VC. BMWs B48 for example pretty consistently outperforms its EPA rating. I had one as a loaner in a 3 series and had it for three days and got 36.4 mpg and that included some city driving.
