You answered SO many questions that I had about the road glide. I too had a street glide and added the kitchen sink to it to fight that annoying buffeting. I am seriously looking at getting a road glide now! TY for the video :)

Very glad it helped. I fought with the decision for a long time. It's a big expense, but it was well worth it. The stock windshields on them aren't great, but even stock was better than my Street Glide.

Ever notice Road Glide owners work really hard to convince themselves and everyone else about how good the Road Glide looks. I have a friend that traded a his 16 CVO SG for a 19 Road Glide and the buyer’s remorse that followed. I watched the poor guy drink himself into a stupor over it at local biker hangout. I lost count of the guys he would drag out to the parking lot to show them his new ride and get affirmation the bike was nicer looking then his CVO SG. He ended up leaving his bike there and catching a ride home with his wife to sober up.

For that 4k you could probably do a 114 stage 3 kit instead and have more power than the stock 114. I have an 18 Road Glide Standard in Denim Black, and I have to agree with you, I also think the Chrome looks better especially with the denim black... it would be just way to much black if it was the special.

I’ve only had Streetglide. Thinking seriously about the 2020 Roadglide. The vent on faring of 2020 you say stays open all the time wouldn’t that let rain and cold weather to come thru. I don’t need the 114 either. Wife has her Spyder so I’ll be solo and I think the 107 will be plenty. I would like to get the new bike in a blacked out version. That color you have looks awesome. Great video.
@apgapcruiser26874 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I found that because the street glide fairing is closer to you, it protects your upper body better in the rain, but not your legs. The Road Glide seems to protect my legs and waist a little better but leaves my upper body a little more exposed. The vents block some rain and cold coming through, but with the proper gear it doesn't make a huge difference. I like on the road glide, that I have a little more wind going over my helmet visor, so it keeps the visor more clear in the rain. I think both are great fairings for the rain. At the end of the day I prefer the Road Glide in the rain because my visor stays clear better. The rest I can solve with good rain gear. Hope that helps.

I got a 2019 114 stage 2 RGS and absolutely luv it. I have changed my bars and upgraded the stereo but can ride miles and miles. The RG fairing gives you plenty of room, the street glide fairing is closer to you and feels too enclosed
@dansmusic57494 жыл бұрын
I think the Road Glide is a seriously good looking bike. I love the classic Electra Glide look, I have always thought it was the best looking tourer, but Harley did themselves proud with this shark nosed, frame mounted fairing. It's modern and classic, all at once.

Great review of a beautiful bike. Thanks very much. This will be my last season on my 02 Low Rider as the cash is finally collected for either a Road King or a Road Glide. You make a pretty convincing argument for the RG. BTW, I'm keeping my trusty ol 88 Low Rider.
@apgapcruiser26874 жыл бұрын
Road King's are great too. The RK has better suspension, but obviously the RG has better wind protection and GTS system.
@ddstanfield92594 жыл бұрын
I look at those as totally different bikes I had a road king, now a street glide and want a road glide But if your around town the RK is alright but heavy for the stop and go but then for the highway the lack of fairing or the added weight the fairing would add just makes it unfriendly If you understand that term But this road glide they are beautiful And have the works included
@RoadieWingZZ4 жыл бұрын
Your aftermarket windshield is also an important part of the air handling system. Looks like you’re running a Freedom shield with some recurve at the top which is considered by many RG riders to be the best for cutting turbulence.

I'm picking up a new (previous model year) 2019 Road Glide Ultra tomorrow. I expect it to be a big change from my '07 Street Glide, in many ways. I was particularly interested in your comment regarding the comfort of the stock bars, in relation to your lower back issue. I too sustained a fairly seriously back injury about 15 years ago, which resulted in spinal cord damage myself. My SG has 16" apes, and I had (still have) some concerns about going back to stock bars of any sort. While the apes were on my SG when I bought it, and I was worried about it at first, turns out it was just the ticket. I found them very comfortable, and could put in long days, day after day, without any shoulder or back issues. I was going to get similar apes put on the RG right off the bat, but my salesman recommended I try the stock bars, before going to the added expense, which made sense. Simply from a cost perspective, I'm hoping the stock bars work for me. But at least I know that swapping the stock bars out on the RG for apes isn't the onerous job it is on the SG. But this late in the season (where I live anyway) I'll be lucky to get in the 1000 miles/1600 kms before the first service is due, before the snow flies. But I'm sure going to try! Thanks for the review.
@apgapcruiser26874 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on the new bike! When I had my street glide, the bars killed my shoulders and neck. I ended up putting in Harley's reach bars, which were better but still not as good as the stock bars on the Road Glide. There are a lot of things that make bars comfortable for people, width, wrist angle, height... At least for me, the stock bars are great. I find that the bars on the road glide are a little taller, wider and have more pullback than the Street Glide. This works great for shoulders and neck strain, but sometimes can lead to feeling the bumps a little more because your spine is more straight up and down. But that's where a good seat and suspension come in. And, you can always lean forward if you want. I hope the bars work for you too. Have a great time bringing your new bike home!

I’m a bit taller, at 5’11” 32” inseam, and I need to test ride them, but honestly I think I need to rent each one and live with it for a few days. I’ve been going back and forth between the two (not to mention Indian’s offerings) based on looks, function, and anecdotal evidence of wind deflection, buffeting, and handling feel. I never liked the old RG shark nose but I love this one, the 2015+ version, it’s really that much better looking. I also really like the Electra Glide Standard and wish they did a stripped down RG but they won’t because the batwing is far more popular. Anyway, your video really does help more than most explain differences, and it’s significant that you swapped models for your own happiness. Hopefully I’ll have a decision soon.
@apgapcruiser26874 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it was helpful to you. I think renting is a great idea. I was able to loan an ultra for a couple days and do a bunch of test rides before I made the decision. The stock windshields aren't great on any of them, so unfortunately it's not a perfect test. Before I bought my road glide, I asked the dealership to put a taller demo shield on the bike and then I test rode it. That was really helpful. I hear great things about Indian as well. They use Fox suspension and a single mono in the rear. Definitely a better design than Harley. Hope your search goes well. Wish you the best.
@mindspinn3114 жыл бұрын
ApGap Cruiser The Indian’s rear suspension alone may be the reason I buy it over the HD. But I do also like the Road King which has more rear suspension travel than the Road Glide.

ApGap Cruiser Saw it, and I rode one in November. It’s was an awesome experience, but I’m not a big fan of the styling, and I don’t want to buy a first year bike. I am also not sure I want a bagger that is intended to be that sporty. I would probably be looking at the updated Chieftain. Either way, spending $22k or more on a bike is just not feasible for me right now. I will continue to watch the used market. Thanks for the help!

My first Harley was a 2001 RoadGlide I bought in 2013. Thought I "upgraded" when I traded it in December 2015 for a 2015 Ultra Limited. I'm much more cramped with the batwing, it doesn't handle as well and even with a taller windshield, the wind is terrible. I miss my RoadGlide. Good choice. Ride safe...
@Doug_Morgan4 жыл бұрын
I had a '15 Road Glide and now have a '20 Street Glide. I found the RG to be slightly more top heavy, but did have the edge for wind management on the highway after I added hard lowers, different shield (Freedom), seat etc. I find my new Street Glide to have a sportier feel in the corners with slightly better handling. I also added hard lowers, different shield, seat etc. I don't get any buffeting on the highway to speak of but I do have more wind on me than I did with my RG. The bikes are so close to each other it comes down to personal taste, try them both and see which is best for you and which one you like the looks of the best.

I’ve rented SG in the past for 3 days....When I went to buy a new bike I test rode both SG and RG, each for about 45 minute ride. Half way through on the RG I realized that yeah, this is the bike..... there is a difference in handling. Through the S corners, the SG feels like you are using the bars to bring the bike from one side over center and to the other side. You are dragging the fairing with the bars.......35-40 lbs of batwing fairing to drag right and left over the center of gravity. The RG feels more nimble and through the corners, it feels like center of gravity is right below your seat, like you are on a rail, smooth and tight with the fulcrum right under your ass.....side to side light and nimble. SG feels like the fulcrum is at the steering head, or just under the tank and that is because of the added weight of the fairing on the bars.....look, it’s not a huge deal, but there is a difference..... I also thought that I would like the cockpit of the SG better, the way the gauges are laid out right in front of you, the infotainment screen within easy reach etc. the RG fairing and cockpit looked to open and infotainment screen to far away, gauge location spread out etc.....after riding both the SG felt a little cramped to be honest. I really appreciate the openness and roominess the RG riders compartment.

@@apgapcruiser2687 I could not get the buffeting to stop on the Challenger no matter where I put the windshield or where I positioned my body. My first street glide I did 20,000 miles on and my new Road Glide I have almost 9,000 miles on now so I'm not experienced with high mileage reliability. I had the famous transmission to primary transfer issue on both bikes, but after the dealer installed the vent kit everything has been great. No other issues. The venting issue has been fixed with the new M8's starting in 2020. I have a few friends that are between the 80,000 and 125,000 mile marks on the 103 engines and they have had great luck with reliability. I still think Honda is one of the leaders in reliability, but from my experience Harley is also doing a good job.
