Frankly, I did not like the car stock. With some mods and tuning it feels intuitive and alive. I'm not a subie snob, but I never really understood the appeal until this car. Great work Zach..Looking forward to seeing it rip on track with some sticky rubber. In the video said transfer case when I meant center diff...sorry! Also After talking with the tuner regarding the gearbox strength he said: "the gerabox and diff is good for 800+hp, its just a misshift or massive grind at that power level that is a damaged synchro. the 2019 motor is good for 450whp, its lightly built from the factory, took subaru forever but this is the good engine out of the STI RA (2018) with many upgrades." I don’t get why people are suddenly saying the STI transmissions are weak. It was always the WRX transmission that could break at stock power levels, while there were multiple STIs running single-digit quarter miles on stock 6-speeds. STIs would snap axles long before the gearbox gave up.

Shoot me! what a sound! STI's rally and the racing car has an amazing capability. Subaru doesn't just add power which is easy to do for every car company. Instead, they study and improve steering and mechanics. In the safety test, I saw it was a better score than Mercedes. But if you modify yourself, you can't expect the same safety as the original though.

@@smashersmasher2061 thing is with these cars you dont need 400+ HP. Early evos and stis running 200awkw are amazing. Out handle any car. Unbelievably fast acceleration thanks to the short ratio gearboxes. An evo with 250awkw will run that comfortably all day long and is insane on the track.
@Tzalmavet3 жыл бұрын
@@ShortySpit Agreed. There's another video on this channel of Tedward driving a 1993 Evo that's stock-ish with a gutted interior making just around 250hp I believe he said? Car handled incredibly well with enough acceleration to have a blast while driving. People often forget that the Evo and WRX started as compact rally cars and over the years grew incredibly larger/heavier. Although I agree with most that the factory tuning on the STI is pretty bloody awful. Why you see a lot of people doing a COBB off the shelf tune as their first mod because it does liven the car up even though those tunes are still crap.

@10:35 can relate, lmao. I literally did that tonight on the way home. After car #3 hogging the fast lane, doing 5 under and speed matching the slow lane cars, the second I got a gap I went for it. I traded my 2011 Subaru Legacy 3.6R in for a 2019 WRX STi about two months ago. I fell in love with the thing just from stock form right away. It definitely takes a lot of getting used to. Getting that damn clutch just right. I'm selling my 2003 VW Golf GTI 20th next spring to help pays towards the loan. STi is pricey but I'm confident the things not gonna depreciation 50% in 5 years like my damn Legacy did. I'm pretty happy with this thing for a year round daily. Got to drive it in the snow the other day and it's a beast. Had to play with the DCCD a bit to get it feeling right in the snow. I don't have much issue with rev matching my issue is the rev hang when downshift tends to be clunky unless you wait. It's not healthy me seeing the car in this form. I've got a warranty for 120k miles or 4 years and I need to be smart for a bit. I bought it with tint already, STI short shifter and shift knob, mud flaps, diffuser and surprisingly it has a COBB catback already. Also weathertech mats, can't go wrong.
