I've driven it in every weather imaginable, on gravel, in stop-and-go traffic, on a 4 hour freeway drive loaded with camping supplies, etc. and it's been great in every situation. It's not a sideways fun machine or a muscle car, so I'd still like a Miata/BRZ and an old Mustang/Camaro, but it's nice having a car I can drive all the time, it's always fun to drive, and it doesn't matter what the roads are like if I need to get moving it's more than happy to do so.

Love~ your thoughts on this haha. I'm currently into my 3rd week or so of owning the CVT version of the WRX and I really do love this car. That said... I'm just a casual car enthusiast and in honesty am in no way a car girl or anything special like that haha. I know from friends that the WRX definitely has a stereotype/culture of being for more serious car lovers like for those into car specs/modding and those who believe in manual driving etc... but imo the WRX is amazing~ for those who are casual yet still want a practical yet really fun car. It's kinda what you mentioned with the WRX being a middle ground of sorts with being a daily driver car while still being sporty and fun haha. I'm also the few who thinks this car is gorgeous... it has such an aggressive look without looking super exotic and standing out too much. And the plastic claddings to me add a nice contrast look of the car body itself versus the black claddings... but as someone who again is a first time sport car owner and as someone who's still casual at heart this might just be me. Anyway~ it's an amazing car for those who still want practicality such as AWD and lots of room but also some fun. Like even for the CVT version... the engine still sounds great... it still feels incredibly powerful. Sure it may not be as fast as my friend's BMW M4 for example but... I'm not looking to be that~ fast. I know this is a crazy opinion but I feel like the 2022 WRX is meant for that middle ground demographic... basically drivers who want a sporty car but with the practicality of a daily driver and one that will get them through rain and snow and~ yet still give you the dopamine rush of hearing that engine and the fun feel it has when driving. And besides although I haven't used it yet personally... it does come with that manual mode in the CVT form for those who still want to have some control and extra fun. My only complaint is especially when compared to my previous car... the WRX using only premium fuel along with not being that fuel efficient was something I wish I accounted for haha. I mean I can afford it and all but it is~ shocking how much fuel expenses costs now and more so with the increasing gas prices these days. But hey~ that's a price I'm literally willing to pay for how much joy I get every day driving this and embarrassingly even when parking in the garage I always get that joy of like... that's my baby haha. Amazing and affordable sports car for those who want a really practical car that's still fun. If you're more serious though... I bet there are other options that might be better suitable but coming from a casual driver who wanted more fun in her drives... I can't recommend the WRX enough.

CVTs hamper performance and sometimes mpg as well. It may not be the case in WRXs, I haven't looked it up. My Impreza has a lower power than the Civic as well, but my enjoyment in driving my Impreza is almost equal to how Tedward drives his Civic. I love my 19 WRX with the FA20 engine. Can't help but notice that a lot of people who test drive these cars get up around 40-45 MPH and put the car in 6th gear. The weak link in these engines are the rods - they are offset from center at the crank and the Achilles heel is lugging the engine in too high a gear. On a perfectly flat surface staying out of boost that's probably not a big deal but personally I don't even hit 5th gear until I'm at 50-55 MPH. I've read a lot of forums and seen a lot of KZbin videos of people pulling these engines for rod knock issues. Sure, that can be the result of abuse/overrevving the engine, etc, but with the high-pressure direct injection and boost from the turbo being in too high a gear is about the worst things you can do aside from poor maintenance. If saving fuel is the goal I'd buy something else.

At what rpm level would be considered lugging the engine 2k?
@maxpeck41543 ай бұрын
@@overthebars5172 I definitely keep mine above 2K but it's happiest around 2500

When pictures of this car were first released, I absolutely hated it. I like to see cars in person before I blatantly state my opinion on looks, and after seeing 4 or 5 now in person, it has not grown on me one bit. When the MK5 Supra came out, I did not like the way it looked in pictures but as I started to see them in person, it really grew on me, unlike the WRX.

@@lucasa7093 also besides the bulky proportions and plastic everywhere, the rear end is not only hideous but completely doesn’t go with the front. which is disappointing bc the front fascia actually looks good imo. it had potential.

If the WRX STI is gone for good, Subaru should seriously consider giving the BRZ the full STI treatment.

Styling for me is less polarising than than the last gen civic. It’s not beautiful but I’ve never thought of a Subaru as beautiful.

Seems like a fun performance daily. Just purchase it in black to hide the ugly fenders. Like with most cars, i’m sure these will look great with some suspension and aftermarket wheels.
@dellvoid2 жыл бұрын
with so much trunk space and rear leg room people could expect this wrx to be particularly long, if for some reason they're also expecting it to have an inline 4 under the hood in a longitudinal configuration. (every subaru in their current lineup comes standard with a boxer engine of some sort)

If the wheel cladding wasn't enough, the black diaper rear bumper thing is something that cannot be unseen.

Give it a year or two for the aftermarket companies to fix all these appearance issues and the car will sell like the previous gens do.

1:32 I agree with this, but I think the important thing to understand about the people talking about the fenders is that they absolutely do not intend on driving hard on gravel roads to begin with. The WRX crowd has shifted towards people who want just a regular road car and do not care about the WRX or Subaru's heritage in rally racing. The rally enthusiasts have long since become a minority in the fanbase, and it's probably largely made up of the "JDM BRUH" people or people who see the WRX as a snow-capable commuter vehicle. It would have been absolutely wonderful if they created OEM painted fenders as a dealer option, but Subaru decided that the only car you'll get is an off-road ready car and you'll have to sand and paint your fenders or pay AFD a thousand dollars to send you painted fenders(that are also wider) instead.

The side vents on the CTR are actually functional and it doesnt have a full wheel arch of unpainted ABS plastic like this atrocity.

I just bought one in red. Added the roof rack and that combined with the cladding makes it look about as adventure ready as a sedan could be. I think you are right about the powertrain being great for an everyday driver while still being capable of fun. The gti might have it beat there but the infotainment system in the new gti is absolute trash. Subaru did much much better in that department.
