As a longtime fan & devotee..permit me the Liberty . of asking everyone a Question.. .. Do you know what makes SAJB and all its collaborators so very loveable.?. Flavorful, ? Because Overall, it Has Tons of Personality. expressed thru all its extempore expression.. the hard work, the Love, the appreciation, the lack of Ego, and the collaborative spirit.. all brought into form & fruition. thru its guiding spirit - Joan Chamorro.. aided by the mature collaborative contributory guiding talents.. the true SPIRIT of Jazz.. God be with you. May these go on & on.. Con Dios

Wonderful performance! There is an old soul inside Joana. She's quite special; love everything she does. And Maestro is smiling ... as well he should be. Joe's sensitive flugelhorn solo blends beautifully. Yet another masterpiece written by British bandleader Ray Noble (this was his theme song). Joana is all grown up.

Yes Greg, I have been very impressed how Joan Monné gets one violin and three clarinets sound like a big violin section also in some other tunes.

It was fantastic to see, how deeply these brilliant musicians were touched by the music they were playing. This torch song of a lost generation was recorded in 1934 (at the height of the Depression) by Al Bowlly and the Ray Noble Orchestra. In 1941 Bowlly was killed by a Luftwaffe mine in Blitz-hit London: Bowlly's recording of *Midnight* can be heard in Kubrick's film The Shining. Joan Chamorro's terrific line-up makes the song live again, and takes us back to a time before we were born. Music of the years gone by.

I've listened to/watched most of the KZbin videos of Joan's "kids" during the past decade, many of them many times over, but this has become my absolute favorite. Everything about it. Joana and Joe are wonderful, the band is spot-on, and Elia's violin adds a great touch. Joana's and Joe's and Joan's Quintet's version of "My Romance" is also right up there with my top favorites.

Listening to this I reflect again on what has gone so wrong with popular music as is churned out on radio stations all day. Here we have strong melodic line, or tune if you prefer, harmony, intelligent and touching lyric which is sung with clear diction - we savour every word. I illustrate the contrast with today's 'commercial noises with this true anecdote: I was in a shop and some typical contemporary pop noise was coming form the ceiling. Growing up in a musical family ( clisscal, Jazz, early music ) I cannot hear music playing anywhere without listening. So I listened and realised that I could barely make out the words. Is it may age? is it my hearing? So I asked the young women who was shelf stacking if she could make out the words and tell me what the song is about. So she listened for a few bars and said " I Dunno." So I replied, "Then what the hell is the point of it?" And you know what it's like when a car goes by with over amplified base notes - or note, thump, thump without even a change of pitch. Thank god for youtube it may yet bring about a revival of popular music that is worthy of our ears. Please let's hear more from Joana and the band, and a fine trumpet solo we had here.
