2019 Triumph Street Triple R | Review
Triumph UK kindly loaned me their Street Triple R press bike, and, what a bike! Sadly the weather was against me, but I still wanted to put a little review together and sum up my short but sweet time on this lovely naked sportsbike!

I bought one of these new last August, only done 800 miles so far so nearly finished running the engine in. The bike is really nice, I had a QS fitted which is a must have for this beast of a bike. I love the fit and finish and the growl when you give it a bit of throttle... Best of all this is British made 👍 🇬🇧 thanks for the upload, all other vloggers overlook this model for the RS but for 99% of riders this bike is far more capable than their skills..... Ride safe 👍

Do you have a long term opinion on it? I'm thinking about getting a used one as my first bike. Spent my life on dirt bikes, so I feel this would be a fair start.

Hi Dan, this is a rather nice review given the inclement weather! The fact that you went ahead and shot the vid nonetheless speaks volume about the gem that is this R version street triple.👌 This is triumph at their best. Can't wait for you to give it it's due justice as promised. Effort most appreciated. Keep safe.

@DeathByCactus
@DeathByCactus 4 жыл бұрын
I tested the LRH version before I bought the regular. Regular, I get both toes down. One foot down flat regular with other foot on brake. LRH I could get both feed down mostly flat. LRH version doesn't have rear dampening however, so I went with regular version because I always stop with one foot down anyway these days. I also came from a Tiger 800, so I am used to stopping with a bigger bike though. Also, the LRH version has a thinner seat. It was noticeable.

Hi, Dan, how's this one got a TFT? Triumph Website shows only the Analog option.
@antares7368
@antares7368 3 жыл бұрын
For some reason Triumph decided to downgrade the spec in 2020 sometime after this video was made. Changes include an analogue display instead of TFT although the price has dropped as well to £9100. They also downgraded the S version to an A2 licence only machine.

Any idea why Triumph removed the LCD screen on the 2020 R?
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 5 жыл бұрын
They removed the TFT screen so that they could add the QS and still make the bike £400 cheaper than last years model. In my opinion, an up and down quickshifter is more desireable than a fancy screen.
@jimmy_with_a_K
@jimmy_with_a_K 5 жыл бұрын
I Get the reason for removing tft screen, but i would i like the option for the triump connect system, shame they left it only for RS and not for the more street useble R Version. I’m waiting for a test ride, actually it’s gona be more of a confirmation ride. So with or without the tft screen, i’m getting myself a 2020 R 😉
@Lex-Rex
@Lex-Rex 5 жыл бұрын
No need for the RS. 99% of riders have no needs for the upgraded suspension. The suspension on the R is more than enough. Also, the RS delivers power differently and is more focused for the track. The R is the best choice if this is going to be your daily driver.

I saw your KTM 790 Duke review (in much better weather). The Striple R often gets compared to the Duke. ( Striple being a few hundred pounds more) . If you had the choice ( and the few hundred pounds more was not a major issue ) what would you get ?

@@Englishbikerdan Me too :) I do have a 660cc Striple . A2 one that's been derestricted, so "only" 94 BHP , but still that's more than enough for me. I still get the triple sound :) Plus I'm not over keen on the KTM looks, especially the headlights. (Yeah some people don't like the Striple's headlights, but like you, they're growing on me ! )

Stock exhaust really is great on this bike. I own a 18' RS and put a Yoshimura slip on exhaust on it last year. Sounds great but that awesome induction sound has diminished with it on there. I'm honestly considering putting the stock exhaust back on.

@Englishbikerdan 5 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. When I see any bike with a 17 litre tank I think, 180-200 miles. I think I got around 165 out of a tank on this R and that was just commuting to work and back. I wasn't really pushing the bike though as the weather was just so bad.

I test rode the 2020 Street Triple RS and the 2020 MT09 yesterday. Both were fantastic and I loved every minute. Was quite hard making my way back to dealership. I've got a few more to test ride but these two bikes have been on the the top of my list for some time. I really, really liked the MT09 but the Street Triple RS felt like it was on another level. I was lost for words with it other than being able to say wow!!! My only issue is that I think it would be a bit too much of a push for a Triumph Street Triple RS financially. Would anyone be able to offer advice on what I'm getting for my money for RS vs R? I know the 2020 R hasn't been released yet but just in previous years. I didn't like the quick shifter much on the RS and I'm not interested in track days. I'm also a new rider having on passed my test 2 weeks ago so things like better suspension wouldn't mean much unless it was significantly better. Any advice would be great Thanks!

Try the duke 790 as well, might give the R a run for its money.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 5 жыл бұрын
Good question but I think it's really down to personal preference. I've ridden the standard MT09, MT09 SP, Street R, Street RS, 2020 Street RS and Duke 790 R. Really tough one to call as they all do things a little differently. Not massively but enough to make me have to think about it. For me, I'd swing towards the KTM or Triumph. I find the Yam has an amazing engine but let down by not so great suspension and brakes. The MT09 SP was better but I still found it the bike to feel unbalanced. The KTM has got a better chassis than the Yam and has more toys but the Triumph is the plushest of them all in terms of refinement and build quality. Plus, it has only what you need really and the chassis is just so damn planted! All in all, Triumph for me with the KTM being 2nd and Yam last. But like I said, we're all different and want different things! Good luck choosing! EBD

I test rode the 2019 RS and R back to back in September. I chose the same route so I could really pick apart the differences before buying. The R power delivery is more linear than the RS so power builds equally as your revs and speed increase. With the RS there were times you roll on and don’t feel that much of an increase in power until the revs build higher, but then you get an exciting rush of power when it hits high enough revs. I didnt like the lack of power from very low revs on the RS, I had to open the throttle more the set off than I’m used to. That was enough for me to choose the R. If it had more power off the line I would have picked the RS. The brakes on the RS were another level though. I’d recommend testing both versions the way I did

@@Englishbikerdan Thanks Dan! Really helpful stuff. I've been looking at used bikes as well and it seems you can get some used RS's at good prices. From what I can see they don't vary much? I just need to get more of an idea of how different the R is to the RS by really breaking it down.
