I have the same first 2 issues on my 19' Speed Triple. 3rd issue is pretty normal on bikes; the higher the gear you're in when stopped, the harder it is to shift to the previous gears. If you rock the bike back and forth while you shift, it should be easier.

Had my bike cut out once in 2500km when i was slowing/blipping down while approaching a roundabout. Think it's the engine is very lean or something with the quickshifter cutting ignition. Wasn't prepared for it so not exactly sure what the cause is. But i don't think it happens under load to cause any danger. Was easy to restart the bike while coasting. I almost lost that damper adjust tool under the seat. Found it back later between the frame and plastic bodyparts close to falling on the road. Fixed it with some sticky gum used for license plates now. I also found that those 2 rubber strips under the seat were pretty loose. Fixed those with sticky gum too. No brake squeaking here. Haven't had the recall yet. Haven't had any stuck in gear problems either. So nothing too big. Would still buy and recommend this bike!

So glad that mine wasn’t the only one cutting out!! Changing down gears, when using the clutch, it would just cut out, often locking up the back wheel when I let go of the clutch. Triumph installed new software on it that apparently only came out on 7/09/2020 and they seem confident that will have cured it. Also have the squeaky brakes and the staying in gear thing but can live with that.

Great choice of exhaust! I’ve got the same but with the “S” link pipe 👍 I bought mine in Dec 2019 I’ve now covered over 5000 miles since then.... but I have had problems... First 700 miles and after its first service.... condensation in the headlights (badly) which caused the DLR lights not to work at all. Switch gears for the lights failed Quick shifter stopped working. All this within the first month of owning it. Thankfully Triumph replaced everything without an issue. Since it’s first 700 miles of problems... it’s been and amazing 4500 miles since. I love this bike and think it’s one of the best bikes out there for British roads. Couple of thoughts. Cutting out when pulling in the clutch lever: sounds more like a wiring fault / programming error in the ecu -> clutch lever sensor engages, ecu changes map but goes too far -> cuts out. I'd be first tempted to disconnect or bypass the clutch sensor so that the ecu always thinks it's disengaged, then see if it cuts out. Remapping the ecu also solves the issue. Sticking in gear: sounds like the selector drum sticking, so slipping the clutch shocks it free again. Might free up with age, or new selector drum + pawl mechanism. It does sound like a manufacturing fault though, there's no real reason why it should stick like that other than poor machining of the track on the selector drum. Otherwise, nice bike. Always love Triumphs and I'd have one myself, but they seem to have finicky little issues. Character I suppose?

Keep using the WD40-Brake Cleaner & a white towel until the towel stays white... Squeak should be gone👌👌 The engine cut out is a known issue with the 2020. Dius 765RS this is a terrible idea. The pads need to have material transfer to the rotors to work best, that’s called bedding your brakes in. Removing the material will make the brake performance sub par. The pads in this bike naturally squeak, they are an aggressive compound. Take it to the track and get some real heat into them, they won’t make noise after that.
@Dius765RS4 жыл бұрын

I have the 2019 one. I have the squeaking of the brakes (since the pad replacement) a few times. My clutch feels rusty until the engine is warmed up (smooth when engine is not running as well). The oil cap nearly came off during riding within the first 500km (luckily I noticed oil splatter on my pants and checked it out) . Big thing though, at 10100km the inlet valve broke off, went into engine and punched a hole through my pistonhead... Triumph assist had elapsed by 18 days, paid 800Euro to get it to the triumph garage closest to my house. 7000EUR on new parts under warranty. Mechanic complained that Triumph would not reimburse them enough hours and charge me 350EUR under th guise of the 10k maintenance. My 2012 does the sticky gear thing as well, sometimes when you're cruising to a stop with the clutch pulled and shift down it will shift down once but then just moves a little bit and doesn't do anything as if you haven't let the shift lever return properly. Same solution as you, just let the clutch out slightly and it will get into gear properly and let you change. Guess the gearbox hasn't changed much,

I bought my Street triple RS last month. The key you mentioned, must have fallen out as I never saw it. Had to stop suddenly at some lights and had the same problem as you, couldn't change down. Just had my first service last week, been told it is fully run in, but sticker on the tank says limit revs to 7000rpm until 800 miles and then 8000rpm until 1000 miles. So still have more miles of running in to do. I find the suspension very stiff, which gives me back ache. Back tyre has slid on me in the dry several times while running in, also happened on the way to the first service. (knocked my confidenece) Bike seems to follow every grove in the road. So I am planning on changing the tyres. Engine sounds great. Performance is great. Looks great.

Funny that you mention the clutch thingy... I have the same on my bike, which is a BMW R nine T :D Must be something generic with the way gearboxes operate. Whenever I'm in standstill and in 2nd or higher, it seems to have trouble getting back to 1. Sometimes the gear indicator doesn't even show anything, until I apply the same trick: in whichever gear slightly engage the clutch and it will 'pop in' and make it possible to shift again...

I’ve found that pretty much every bike I’ve ridden does it. Sequential gearboxes don’t like to be shifted multiple times with the clutch in. Once you know about it you get in the habit of always downshifting to first when coming to a stop.
@ryancox38343 жыл бұрын
I found this out very quickly doing my cbt. I would downshift like I'm used to in a car approaching a stop or traffic lights but because I was inexperienced I wasn't bringing it down in the gears with each clutch and I would always get stuck in neutral after 2nd and you have to get into the habit of engine braking no matter what speed it'll stop you getting the issue. Squeaking pads always happen with performance pads in bikes and cars. Theure high bite and you'll likely find squeaky pads are alot more aggressive and are affected by fade less.

i have the 2017 model and i have to say: - brake squeel is only during low speeds and light brake application and has stopped after a while. - the cutting out, i have not experienced. I have the exact same full Sc system (but not tuned, and with the baffle in because it is just obnoxiously loud otherwise) - stuck gearing: i have come to expect that, had it on my other bikes as well. sometimes takes a little persuasion to tap back down to first additionally, something mine seems to do: whenever i'm accelerating hard, away from a stoplight for example, and i use the quickshifter up through the gears, many times it tends to want to keep hanging in 2nd gear. so i upshift from 1st to 2nd no problem, but 2nd to 3rd sometimes doesnt want to go the first try. and watching my dash, it's as if the computer hasn't realised yet that 2nd gear was engaged, because only after the embarrassing rev limiter bounce, i can see the gear indicator on the dash jump from 1st to 2nd. i think it's because i haven't had the shift rod adjusted quite perfectly for my feet postioning, and maybe i'm juuuust pressing up hard enough for the ignition to cut out, but not pressing up hard enough to engage the next gear.

I have a similar set of issues with an Indian FTR 1200... Brakes (brembo) squeal, I think thats a Brembo thing, I've had a MT07 that didnt squeal. I'm not that bothered by it really... I've had the bike cut out in stock "Euro5" tune, too... The Indian was a disaster when cold, a real pig... I got the ECU flashed and it hasnt done it, again. I think you're right on the money with the ECU/Exhaust change... All my bikes, DR650, MT07, Tracer 900, FTR1200, GSX-r750 do that "lazy gearbox" thing, and need minor clutch encouragement to shift thru the gears. I've never been on a bike that can statically change gears nicely... I dont think thats a Triumph issue... In fact, I dont think any of them are specifically Triumph issues. The engine just dying when you pull in the clutch, is because it is running insanely lean with a pipe... Your AFR down low with that pipe, is off the charts... it's like 18 range and that is why it stalls. We discovered this on the dyno, and corrected it with a combination of TuneECU and a Power Commander. Has not stalled once since we tuned it properly... If the bike is running lean enough to stall, it is running lean enough to cause damage to the motor over time. I don't care if the pipe makers say "no refueling needed"... They are wrong. Maybe on the Euro4 version, but not on this newer model.
@BikesofRye3 жыл бұрын
My bike hasn't stalled since Triumph done a software update back last year when the bike was in for the brake pad recall... It turns out others were having the same stalling issue on their bike without modifications too so it was apparent Triumph must have been aware of it

@@BikesofRye The bikes from the factory are right on the edge of being too lean... Some tip over the line with a slipon and start stalling, others might be just to the other side of the line where they don't stall... but both are WAY too lean, and I would be concerned with doing damage to the motor over time... Mine was stalling after the update, and we watched it do it on the dyno so it was clear what was happening... The second that we dumped more fuel in the idle and just off idle area of the map, stalling stopped, and hasn't stalled once in 6 months...

Mine cuts out going into second at higher rev. Might try some fuel injector cleaner. Clean air filter helped.

2019 Striple RS here with 10k on the clock, brakes and fork key under the seat yes, cutting out no. Gear issue is a generic issue related to all manual gearboxes, be them motorcycle, car or truck, not a Striple issue.

Hate to say no motorcycles want to change gear at standstill....nature of sequential bike gearbox design. Have 2017 STRip RS done 9000 miles luckily had none of these issues. Only thing I have had is return spring lug on gearchange shaft break- apparently common on Street Triples and Tiger 800s. Not hugely expensive to fix but disappointing that it happens. But, been riding on road since 1981, probably sweetest handling bike I've owned , besotted with mine

The gear getting stuck I think is a normal thing. My gsx250r does this as well if choose not to downshift. So I have to put the gears down while still rolling or like you said let out the clutch very litte. I've heard that street and speed triples were having other transmission issues. I think it has something to do with this and people maybe forcing the gear???

Glad I watched .... I had the R version delivered brand new on 27th July.... First ride out whilst approaching traffic lights on the downhill of a dual carriage way at 60 it died whilst changing down from 6th to 5th. As the bike was obviously running in 60 mph which I was doing happened to be all the bike would do in 6th whilst keeping the revs within the recommended.... As it was the first death it caught me out for a second or two by which time 3 x 4 wheeled idiots were up my butt, on my left overtaking and on my right overtaking...once they passed I got the bike tight in on the left edge of the road...and stopped having attempted a restart as I slowed ... The bike came to a stop. Into neutral ...clutch in ..restart successful....normally this stretch of road it rammed with fast moving HGVs and fancy fast motors... Anyway so off I go ....but with an alerted attention....next roundabout about 3 miles ahead it dies as I enter This time clutch in restart at about 30mph...now left thinking WTF and an even higher state of alert.... Took it easy after that completing about 230 more miles without a 3rd death...and onwards and upwards to complete the run in and take it in for its first service ...explained the cut outs ...and the dealer seemed at a loss as to what could have caused it. Now I've done 850 miles 250 after the service and still no 3rd death. However I will be going back into the dealer to prob further based on your video Thanks for the off the bike heads up. Great to the point video I will be checking the tool kit in the morning too!
@BikesofRye4 жыл бұрын
Yep it can be pretty dangerous if it happens to you on a busy road and you are wondering why the bike has cut out! Maybe your bike had the software update on its first service. Hope your fork adjusting key has survived
@Bronson98224 жыл бұрын
Same here mate , i have nearly been hit from behind twice with it cutting out . One time I was on a straight stretch of road doing 80ks and it died , since having it serviced and something to do with the engine calibration, it is going ok at the moment. Someone will get hurt or killed if this keeps happening. Time for a new bike i think and I've only had this bike for 5 months.
@brianperry4 жыл бұрын
I owned a Ducati 900SS ( the old bevel gear drive) in 1979 it had the same problem regarding shifting into neutral when stopped, so would have to relieve the clutch slightly...pain in the bloody arse!!. however I've never experienced this problem on my 675R. I guess most of your problems are specific to the newer models. One of the most notable mods I did was change the air filter to a K& N. I have to say the bike seems a little more free revving...more HP ?... who knows. However L/100 kilometres there is definitely an improvement. Easy to see if the active fuel consumption is switched on. Lastly I would fit a full exhaust, but living in Spain this would be a problem when the bike is ITV tested (same as MOT) it would fall foul of homologation ( if the tester clocked it) regulations so a fail would be invertible..On the whole though a great motorcycle..
@dmandhelen4 жыл бұрын
Hi there .. my ninja1000sx does that with gears sometimes too 🙈🙈🙈😁😁😁.. it won’t change down until I lift off the clutch a little ..??? I just thought it was a quirk of a sequential gearbox kind of thing ..!! Great vid .. and fab bike !!!👏👏👏👏👌👌👌

I have the same, identical bike however completely stock. Mine has died three times over 3700 kilometers such as what you've described, this seems to be a problem with a small portion of bikes but exhaust changes do not seem to be the common denominator.

As mentioned in the video it only happens when you pull the clutch in and you're coasting. It wouldn't put me off buying the bike again. The headers are listed on SC project site under the 2017 model. The slip on is listed under the 2020 model

On a 675R same thing with the clutch/gear. Under 5mph it won't change gear. You need to re-engaged the gears to change them. The brakes also make some noise.. and I use it almost everyday.. after few miles it goes away. However no random engine cut off... 🤨😱

Hi, i am considering buying this bike, so far i cant seem to find any horror stories, mostly electrical problems on older bikes which were sorted out in recalls. Stuff you mentioned here is mostly to personal preference. You didnt run into any problems that would lead you to unexpected visit to service? I bought ducati supersport s in 2019 and every year i had at least 1 problem that left bike unuseable for at least 1 week, and seems those problems will never end so i need something a bit more reliable, any insight is welcome.

Can confirm all of these "quircks". Had the bike for 3 months, since June and covered 4000kms on her. Lost the fork setup round key, it died on me 2 times in a row in the first month (hasn't happened since) and brake pads squeak when not under hard braking and colder conditiona. After the 1000km service they updated the ecu with a new map and changed brake pads, so still squeaking but for now no randomly switching off. Still I'd buy her 50 times more.
