I am on mile 1,500 of my 2021 M340i and I am loving it. What a fun car to drive and the power is absolutely underreported. I live in Denver so the air is thinner up here but you can still feel the necessary growl when needed. I test drove both the C43 and the M340i before I bought and although the gurgles and pops of the Merc were a little better I made the right choice in purchasing the BMW. Great review guys - definitely know your stuff!

My friend has been working at a BMW dealer for years now, and he's been very consistent in his belief that the M340i (both F80 and G20 generations) is among the best, if not the best, all-around cars that BMW makes. The latest 40i motor is clearly past 400/400 HP/TQ at the crank, if not getting close to the 450/450 range...a B58 M40i-powered car is basically running around with the equivalent to a C6 or C7 Corvette V8. It's really nutty performance for a regular production 3-series.

Had an F30 335ix with MPPK when I lived in Germany. Loved it! Flooring it at 200 km/h and how that engine would shift lower gear in an instant and rev like a freak and push you back to the seat, jeez i loved that! I’m really happy with my RRS now as its much more suitable for the Scandinavian climate and speed limits , but man, that BMW stole my heart❤️

A few months ago I test drive a CPO 340i 6-speed manual with the ZHP package, and fell in love with it. That car’s inline 6 is so smooth, and fast! Hoping there will still be a few low mileage examples around with a stick in a couple years when I can afford one.

So this is my 7th! BMW, including an M (I refer to that period as my high-maintenance significant other phase) and I have to tell you, this is my favorite one ever. Great review. I'll just differ on a couple of points...for a dedicated BMW driver, we don't want the looks to change much, and we don't want it blinged out. I buy these because they're mostly sleepers. Also the gauges aren't that bad. Just reprogram the center panels for the sport displays if they make you happy :). The interior now feels more high-end over all. But it's ALL about the driver and the drive here. And this car is the perfect poised partner when you need that, and the naughty and racy one when you need that.

Russell Brown Interesting that you ask. I was shocked to see the M340 RWD came standard with 225 wide 18 in tires on all 4 corners! My car has 255 wide 19 in as the MSport option. I thought the acceleration was traction-limited so it didn't make sense.

ffrrannk I would consider the Model 3 LR or Performance but I was put off by poor build quality, higher insurance rates, and repair issues (see TFL Car's videos regarding the trouble of getting minor damage fixed). But yeah I have to agree the Model 3 is a beast to drive.

I feel like BMW actually do care about building the 'ultimate driving machine'. They keep a straight six over moving to a 4-cyl, they chose the best automatic transmission on the market, refined the traction control so that it's perfect, rear bias AWD. They just know what driving enthusiasts want.

I have a 2018 S4. Love it. Havent driven the C43 or the M340. I really like both of those as well. Would be a REALLY tough choice for me between the C43 or M340. I think I would go C43 because I like the interior a lot better. Their 12 inch display and you can option those awesome AMG Performance seats in it which look amazing.

I own this car and test drove the c43 amg before deciding on the m340i. Could not be happier with my decision. I wanted to like the mercedes but it just wasn’t as much fun driving it around violently on demand. It was too refined even in sport mode and couldn’t even tell I was going fast. The bmw definitely makes you smile more when you punch it hard around corners or straights. The only thing that’s not perfect is the wireless apple CarPlay. Music every now and then lags for half a second. I wish it was just wired and then this car would be absolutely complete. I have the Harmon kardon system as well and it’s just ok for being the “premium” sound system. Lease is up in 2023 and I’ve already decided to get the m550i with the bowers and Wilkins system which is like 10x better than the hk.

@@8TH_Gear update. I just sold my lease to carmax for 1200 more than what my payoff is. I had to take advantage of this insane used car market. I did an experiment driving in eco pro vs normal to see how much more mpg I could squeeze out. Eco pro only gave me 4 more mpg over a tank than normal mode did. You might as well enjoy that bmw for what it is 😅

@StraightPipes , you boys have the Rear Wheel Drive version here, with the Claimed 0-100 at 4.4 seconds. The Xdrive or the AWD version has an even faster claimed 0-100 at 4.1 seconds.

@@snakeeyes9246 generally spoken your statement is just wrong. Due to higher weight and drag of awd systems you need a certain minimum power for the awd to be faster. Depending on comparing between fwd-awd or rwd-awd this minimum power figure can be somewere between 200-400hp, also depending on tires and entire weight of the car.

I’m eager to see a review of the new M550i xDrive. The updated M550i xDrive will have 523 hp and 553 lbs ft of torque up from 456 hp and 480 lbs ft of torque. Those are big gains and the performance should be even better with quicker acceleration times. Can’t wait to see what it can do when it hits North America.

The 0-60 is 4.1 with xdrive but it has been tested at 3.9

M340i Drove the c43 and it feels totally different. Personally, BMW has really improved the chassis. However, it all comes down to personal preference.
