2023 AMG C43 vs BMW M340i vs Audi S5 // DRAG & ROLL RACE

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 Sedan ($80,900 starting in Canada, $59,900 in the US), the 2023 Audi S5 Sportback ($67,900 starting in Canada, $56,800 USD), and the 2023 BMW M340i xDrive ($68,000 starting in Canada, $59,600 in the US) are lined up for a Drag Race at the Throttle House test track. All three of these German performance sedans have identical torque at 369 lb ft (500 Nm), but vary somewhat in terms of power and weight. The new C43 AMG has the most horsepower but it is also the heaviest. What happens when you put these three powerful yet comfy sedans against one another in a drag and roll race? Ordered a m340 in January and received it in May. Ordered the M performance exhaust 2 days later and loving it. Such a fun car. The suspension is definitely on the sporty side so if you want it a little more plush, order with the adaptive suspension.

These cars are developed for daily use on normal residential streets. Its performance is sufficient for normal daily use. If you need your car to be bragging rights for the fastest in this segment, then BMW is it. It all comes down to personal choice. Eg). I think Audi has the best interior ergonomics and esthetics. Its performance is pretty good. It doesn't need to win drag races, but quick enough as a daily for me. These are my criterias, which is why I bought my S6 over the M550i. Every owner has their own criteria of their ideal car that suits their needs. These YT reviews looks through the lens of 1 perspective...the KZbinr. Its their opinion and thats it.

Even with the C43 being close on performance off the show room floor they aren’t leaving much on the table for tuners if they are already pulling 400 hp out of their engine. If you took all three cars in for a dyno session and quick tune I’d imagine the BMW and Audi would get much quicker .

The same engine gives 421 hp in the A45S and it looks like a stage 1 tune will get you up to around 460, so it's not bad. If you want to go much higher than that, I'd imagine it would be much easier with the BMW (I've no idea about the Audi).

That won't happen, they rather scrap all ICE engines completely than doing that. (and sadly rather kill the company) The fuel consumption over the whole sold modelrange dictates them to "lower theoretical fuel consumption" and they are going the way the former CEO steered towards and the current doesn't want to stray from. Mana strange and bad decisions in my opinion in the last few years from the Mercedes management.

If my B9 Audi S4 died today, I’d probably get the M340i. That won’t happen soon as the S4 has had zero unscheduled repairs in its first 57,000 miles. My main gripe with the BMW is iDrive 8 which we have in our i4. That interface is okay for a BEV but not a sporty sedan. The Audi cabin is superb and the dash can be configured with a proper central, round tachometer with digital MPH and gear position in the center.

So happy I have a (2019) C43 from before they put a 4 cylinder in it. It's still not beating the M340i in a race, or on the track... but I'm never racing anyone, or on the track, so it's absolutely quick enough, agile enough, and sounds impressive enough for me to have a lot of fun and show off too. I saw people in the comments wondering why someone would ever buy a C43 over a M340i. Honestly I test drove them all, and instantly fell in love when I was behind the wheel of the C43. It sounded best, looked best (especially the interior), had a panoramic dual sunroof unlike the others, and the features like adaptive cruise control were available on a lot of used ones - I looked a LOT of used M340i's and couldn't find not one with adaptive cruise control, so that was a deal breaker. They're all dope cars to me. Well, not anymore since AMG went 4 cylinder lol.

I have both 2020 c43 and new 2023 c43. I actually think the 23 c43 is a lot of fun. The steering and handling is loads better then the 2020.

Agreed. I have a 2023 M3 and a 2023 C43. I did test drive a M340i as well. I love the speed on the BMW 100%. Though, BMW lacks interior in my opinion. The 2023 M340i and the BMW's new long tablet infotainment is going to be such a played out thing. Even the 2024 Hyundai Sonata is going to look like a BMW. With that said, yes BMW is faster but not by a ton. I think Mercedes did a great job at making a comfy car first and performance second. For a 4 Cylinder, it sure doesn't feel like it. Feels like it pulls harder than the M340i I test drove. (but on paper it doesn't). @@themercedestraveler9566

You should! It's a very good car and it looks good as well. Coming from a hard core VAG fan, but I love how far BMW has come with how great the cars are to drive... I just wish across the lineup they looked a lot better, because otherwise they're pretty much perfect

Gentlemen, love the videos and I've watched this channel grow tremendously. Is there any way future 4k video can at least be 4k30 vs 4k24fps? The "cinematic feeling" is quite jarring especially when many have already moved to 4k60. Just a suggestion as I know 24 to 30 won't be much longer to process nor increase the size of the footage much - thanks.

Btw if you pick out a camera with a global shutter for that finish line camera you won't get that blurring issue. (shutter speed or angle can also help there)

In deed the European S4/5 also have a 48V mild hybrid system with electric powered compressor. Just they combine it with the 3.0l 6-zylinder TDI engine here.

Had a 2016 GL450 (last year before it became the GLS). It was a bi-turbo V6 that churned out a ridiculous amount of power for its size. The transmission, however, never seemed to have the same cooperative agreement as the driver and engine required. Wanting to accelerate just a little, it would never downshift and bog. You keep giving it more throttle in the hope that it would just downshift, but nah, transmission doesn't think so. Keep giving it more throttle, then the transmission finally downshifts and the engine winds up and you're accelerating way more aggressively than you ever desired. I had the various controllers reset by the dealer, but to no avail. I finally got rid of it. Mercedes has some great technology. I just don't understand why they can't get some of the basics right, including driving dynamics.
