When I took in my bmw to get the suspension replaced, they gave me this exact vehicle to drive while I waited. Words cannot describe how beautiful the driving experience really is. I was utterly amazed. I've never driven such a high end vehicle with such great steering and suspension. Its one of those vehicles that you have to drive to understand. It literally feels like you're floating. You can't feel a thing. The steering feels like it may be accompanied electronically for how buttery smooth it is. Again, I drove on our main highway back home and it was the most comfortable ride i've ever experienced. To anyone reading this, you HAVE to test drive one of these. It's otherworldly.

Great review. Would be great if you also mention in future the cars you review which have adjustible head rest tilt, most new cars have headrests too much tilted farward, which causes neck pain.

The E53 X5 was not "on a Range Rover platform." In fact, the L322 Range Rover borrowed a bunch of stuff from BMW, since BMW owned Land Rover at the time (and the rest of Rover Group)...but was on its own bespoke platform. BMW certainly took inspiration from heritage Range Rover aspects when designing the X5, though...such as the X5's clamshell tailgate, a feature it has retained through all four (E53, E70, F15/F85, G05/F95) generations. The E53 X5 and L322 Range Rover shared some parts, but it's fairer to say that the E53 X5 was a heavily modified E39 5 Series. Its platform didn't have the same beefiness as the rugged L322 or the body-on-frame W163 M-Class, and it rather more prioritized on-road driving and sportiness. In the intervening years, BMW's, Mercedes-Benz' and Land Rover's midsize SUVs have become far closer in mission and composition than they used to be (although Land Rover's X5 competitor is more accurately the Range Rover Sport, and not the full-size Range Rover).

No one is showing how to start it remotely. Is it a key fob or a mobile app you have to pay for?

What is in the hole on the back of the seats next to the USB? The door slides open and a space appears......what is in there? 12V? More charging?
@shantaesmith
@shantaesmith 3 жыл бұрын
That space is for rear seat entertainment or a coat hook etc... bmw sells the attachment for what you choose to add onto the back seat!! I hope that helps

The E53 wasn’t based on a Range Rover, from the ground up straight BMW. Mostly all new, sharing some interior parts of the E39 and chassis handling is inspired by the e39. BMW used a single technology from the Range Rover and that’s Hill descent Control

Frank Stephenson, designer of the BMW E53 X5 states that it was based off a platform that BMW acquired when they purchased the Rover group. Even if we want to get technical because he didn't specify which platform it was, it certainly wasn't BMW's. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4bYlKVumqhsq80

@@BostonAutoBlog BMW made the brakes, diff, engines, suspension, anti roll, basically everything, its own tech, and overall mechanics. The Range Rover is what shares off BMWs, the engines in them are BMWs, Technology is BMW, and interior parts are BMW. Even down to design, the Range Rovers of the 90s shares lots of BMW traits like the mirrors, the lights were inspired by BMW as well. The only parts of the E53 that were by The Land Rover division was the down Hill assist and even that was tweaked by BMW.

@@aidenp5768 The E53 X5 was still built on a Range Rover platform. Doesn't matter what components the rest of the vehicle was made with. BMW didn't engineer the platform the E53 was built on, and as I said 2 months ago, Frank Stephenson who designed the first X5 even said it was built on a platform they acquired by the Rover group. That was my point. Everything else is irrelevant, as obviously BMW would design the rest of the vehicle their own way. But the architecture the X5 was built on was not BMW's

the x5 is bigger?
@BostonAutoBlog
@BostonAutoBlog 4 жыл бұрын
It's gained about 2 inches in length from the 3rd generation. Not bigger than the X7, but certainly longer and wider than the X3

Celeny Vargas Not even close, it’s a midsize and more full size than it is compact. It’s a big BMW. Much bigger than the original X5
