My 2004 Suburban less than 30,000 miles the gauge cluster was screwed, the transmission was replaced under warranty, numerous check engine lights, among other issues. And yeah before you go saing it was old, I bought it in 2006 with under 20,000 miles. My 99 GMC I bought with 7,500 I had in the shop so many they lemon lawed it. And they confronted me about it

Look at how low that engine is/ how high the transmission is. It's exactly as I've been telling people who've whined about wanting a manual trans. The engine is definitely in the way, making shifter and select cables impossible to install. They can't even do as Porsche has done and run the cables to a fork mounted on thre side of the trans. This is a fantastic video showing details people that haven't been explained so far. Hopefully people now understand why a manual trans isn't available.

Tadge has stated that in order to meet Chevrolet's ingress/egress requirements, the side sills are much narrower than those on typical mid-engine cars. Therefore, to increase structural rigidity, the center tunnel had to be relatively huge - it's essentially the backbone of the car. It's also plausible that it could house a small battery pack. It makes much more sense that an AWD model would have front motors rather than a driveshaft from the engine, especially since the transmission is on the back of the engine.

The biggest concern I have with this engine layout is based on my experience of owning a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT. That car had an engine in the back and radiator in the front. I had a situation where the coolant ran low. I poured more into the radiator, but there was still an air bubble that lead to the engine running hot. I eventually figured out that a needed to remove the radiator cap in the rear (which was for the thermostat), pull the thermostat, and pour more coolant into the housing. Once that was full I pulled the cargo on the radiator again, and kept pouring coolant into the thermostat housing until the radiator was overflowing. At that point I put the cap back on the radiator and finished filling the thermostat housing. Once it was full I reinstalled the thermostat and put the cap back on. This was the only process I found that eliminated all air from the system, with periodic checks and top-offs until it stayed full. I don't see how this can be done with the C8. I fear engines overheating in this car. Also, I didn't see any power steering in that car. The Fiero lacked power steering too. It was really stiff until you got the car moving more than a few miles per hour.

Hi Mike, Thanks for sharing this video. I have been wanting to see how GM created the packaging for the C8. If you thought that the exterior and interior design was beautiful, then you should really be impressed by the beauty of what is under neath the skin. After 45 years of designing light weight structures for the aerospace industry, I can really see the effort that was required for the C8 Corvette. I thought that the C6 Z06 and C7 frames were great designs, but the C8 packaging design is really impressive. I don't think that the C8 Corvette will be any more difficult to maintain than a C7. It will be different and there will be a learning experience required. I am sure that GM uses a maintainer software program to evaluate and modify the design during th development process. GM also has to worry about the cost of all warranty work and will create a design that should be easy to maintain. I also believe that the engine and transmission can be removed as a whole package by lowering it out of the car for major repair work.
