ABOUT PAPADAKIS RACING:
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as backto back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club

@rotor13
@rotor13 4 жыл бұрын
Of course you can. It will just take a long time. I’m in the middle of a similar process of restoring a beat to shit FD RX-7 with a 3-rotor setup. The pain in the ass part I’m stuck at, is removing the front radiator support to make room for a better cooling system, but still be able to mount the OEM number without actually extending the from end. There isn’t an off-the-shelf setup I like so I’m ended up buying a totaled FD so I can hack up the front end metal to make my cuts and test fit everything before committing it to the actual car. I’m going V-mount setup in this case. But the mounting areas aren’t to my liking, considering I want to keep a/c, and all relays in the same position, and need to make some room for mounting Twin oil coolers and such. It’s a challenge. I’ve been working at this for about a year so far. Hopefully once I get everything fitted and finalized, I can work on making sure the entire engine bay is where I want it and can get the 3-rotor fired up and playing nice with everything by Spring of next year, so that I can be able to at least drive it to work out any bugs with the drivetrain before ripping it all out for body work. Mind you, I’m doing this all by myself in my spare time. With occasional help from friends when I need an extra set of hands. I practically have no social life and won’t have one until I finish this build. But I do take breaks from it when I need wait for parts to be delivered.

He runs a factory backed team, He gets most of this stuff for free plus he has a budget from Toyota and AEM I believe. If I were to put a number on how much of his budget he has spent (not including tools he has in his shop) I would put it at about 80-100k out of pocket. However If we factored in MSRP into the build assuming he paid for everything, It would be probably around the $350-500k mark.

You have to think of these builds as Total Cost per Season of Racing. For example a WRC car costs 750K, but the total team budget for a year of racing could be 15M. Same here, if the initial vehicle is sponsored, the car may only cost ~50K in parts to create, but the total team budget for the season is ~1M.

If you print it in ABS plastic, suspend it in a container filled with acetone without submerging it, and boil the acetone, then the vapors will settle onto the part and reseal the surface. This fuses all of the layers together and makes the part several times stronger. I do with all of my ABS parts. It makes them damn near indestructible. The level of quality in this build is amazing. This man has taken customization to a whole new level. If i ever win the powerball lottery i am going to have this man build my dream car for drag strip/ daily driving. I also love how he manages to explain even the most complex processes effectively and efficiently. Mr P you are a god among men. Please keep up the amazing content. P.S. I love you no homo.... Well maybe a little 😆

Not only is your video work and mechanical/fabrication work excellent, but you also do an excellent job explaining what and why you are doing it. A++ for all your Supra videos!

Again I repeat : Papadakis & crew are AMAZING Craftsman, a class act thru & thru, the design, the planning, the work, the quality, the execution..... simply never out done, often imitated, never duplicated, no other individual, team, company will surpass the bar Papadakis has set.... Thank you for awesome videos

This has been one of the coolest behind-the-scene or documentary I have watched. Very insightful. Stephan is not shy about explaining those little cool things that they do. Awesome! keep it up, you might end up on prime time TV.

You know you're damn good when you make it look so easy to do (it definitely isn't to do it right...). I absolutely loved seeing it all come together and interested about the strength of the 3D parts over time but, easy to reproduce at least! Can't wait for the next one, such an awesome build!
