2:47 That's stupid. I doubt that anybody calls it "la área de la bahía" there... they probably say "El Vey Aria" and would clearly recognize "the Bay Area" on signage. They probably left that in English to avoid confusion. Your other examples are more valid.

A little late to this but you could also use the word "violento". Yes. Violent.
@JorgeSchz20042 жыл бұрын
"Awkward" and "Cringe" in spanish would be "Pena/Vergüena ajena" or just "Pena" or "Vergüenza" but you have to contextualize them: *Ayer me caí de las escaleras y muchas personas me vieron, me dió mucha pena/vergüenza (Yesterday, I fell down of the stairs and many people see me, it was so awkward/cringe/embarrasing)
@e.p.s.90375 жыл бұрын
As a native Spanish speaker, "españolas" isn't bad per se, just a bit unnatural compared to "[traducción] española", since one would treat the noun for "translation" as uncountable. "Al español" (literally "into Spanish") would be more accurate, but that's all.

Gastado is not wasted in this context. Gastado means "Spent," like "she has spent all her life..." but she could have chosen a better word, like "ha pasado toda su vida.....". I'm a native Spanish speaker and I could understand the context of the Ad. I wouldn't have translated it as wasted but as spent.

What about the countless indigenous languages of the Americas? Not to even mention that the US was colonised by other European powers. French is still natively spoken in Louisiana, German in Pennsylvania and Spanish from California to Florida. Have you ever stopped to think where the names San Francisco and Los Angeles come from because it's definitely not English. Jesus I've never seen such a STUPID comment.

@@kerrywayne2010 No way; most people can't understand any more than one language, and like I said, this is an ENGLISH language channel.
Mostly fine criticism BBC, apart from saying that "ironically", Bay Area wasn't translated. So here's a lesson from someone whose native language is not english - names are usually NOT translated, be it for persons or locations. The reason is quite obvious - if someone is looking for a location, they need to know exactly how it's called, not a translation that won't be found anywhere officialy - maps, signs, phonebooks, etc. Sure, there are some translators who insist on doing it one way or another, but it's really a disservice in most cases. Think about it.

I'm guessing fox news told you that. In political theory, socialism is the social ownership of the means of production. Now this is also liberatian and authoritarian socialism (think norway vs ussr). The point being that the "free market" makes no sense for some things. So if I want heathcare, I have to directly negotiate with insurance companies who then negotiate to get the drug prices for each drug. Now of course the insurance companies take a large chunk as well, but as they are smaller blocks than nation states, they have less bargin power. In the UK for example, the british people pay their taxes, and then the goverment uses the entire block of the country to negotiate. Now look at the differences between our healthsystem and the NHS (the uk's), they have about a third the cost per capita. So they have a system that pays a fraction we do for better results, to me it makes no sense to not change to a singlepayer system. A koch brothers funded study, found that medicare for all would save the US, $2 billion over 10 years
