Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Tommy Vietor, and Dan Pfeiffer discuss the clusterf*ck of an Election Night that has ended with votes still being counted in several states (including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina), and Joe Biden on the cusp of defeating Donald Trump.

Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

Hey Crooked, did the exit polls that we managed to get align with the results so far? How would we know if Russia or Iran were to corrupt the voting systems of a few critical counties? And yes, I do realize I sound like a tin hat whackadoo, but if Russia has the means to tamper with the vote, why wouldn’t they? And again, I’m just talking about some key counties. Thanks for passing my question up for the next Pod.

Thinking we need to rethink our support for immigration. Instead of fighting against the wall we need to drive through an amenesty program for immigrants. I believe that's why a lot of immigrants are voting for Republicans because Reagan gave them amnesty and they have party loyalty and a lot of them are Catholic and let's be honest, the machismo culture found in a lot of immigrant populations is not woman's rights friendly. Abortion is a big deal to these folks. We've got to understand that in defending a woman's right to choose we crippled our ability to talk to certain groups that happen to be expanding in the USA. Since that dynamic is unlikely to change perhaps it would be better to give college scholarships to poor kids rather than spending billions on campaign ads since our base seems to be college educated Americans who have the intellectual ability to filter out propaganda and misinformation from political arguments.

60 year old white female here, first time I replied to a poll ever! But, I replied to every online poll that showed up. Could that be a reason? Also, why did so many voters chose Trump? My friends and and family said "the Economy". My personal belief? The economy was an excuse. Deep down it was fear that this country is less "white" then ever before and the fact that they might not be the majority any more.

I agree with you, but can’t for the life of me figure out why that’s such a problem for them. When my daughter was about 4 years old (in the 70’s) we were getting food at a drive through window. The gal at the window was black and all my daughter saw was her hand. She asked me why her hands were so dirty.I told here they weren’t dirty, she had dark skin because her mothers, mothers, mothers, mother came from a place where the sun was always out and the dark skin helped protect them from sunburn. Ours came from places where the sun rarely shined so we didn’t need the same protection. I was young, she was young but I still believe that’s the basic difference and that all of us wish for the same things. Except for the crazies who insist everyone look/think/act exactly like them, or the power hungry who use such a random thing as color to divide us, I truly don’t understand what the heck these people are afraid of. Why would they think that the color of your skin determines what you want out of life?

The left NEEDS to have radio - AM and FM especially in rural areas. To explain to people that nobody is proposing socialism and what the actual sociAL policies the left is offering. The left NEEDS a massive education media operation - radio, social media, TV, local TV

Yes, and.... America needs to completely rethink and rebuild public education. Kids should have actual practice volunteering, learning how to read the media for bias, understanding personal finance, building empathy and communication skills, and for the love of this country, civics, civics, civics. Reduce the amount of lectures, invest in labs, or project-based learning. We no longer have any need to produce an educated workforce capable of memorizing content, performing simple math and sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours. The future of our country and the planet depends on a citizenry that practices empathy, and can think for themselves.

I am usually a fan of the Pod Save America podcast and have been regularly listening to Tommy, Jon, Jon, and Dan for years now. That is why I felt the need to contact you instead of simply walking away from the pod. I am a non-binary “Latinx” person from Puerto Rico (currently living in the continental US). On the episode released today (11/04/20), the question “How did we get here?” was asked regarding the closeness/narrow margin of the presidential race. To my chock, instead of addressing the fact that once AGAIN, over half of voting white Americans voted for Trump in this election, you say that the answer to this question is Cubans in Miami and latinx in Texas? Why not address the elephant in the room and talk about how OVER HALF of voting white Americans (millions upon millions of people) are consistently choosing to vote for Trump and other right-wing politicians at the expense of everyone else? This same trend was also identified in the 2016 election as well. So when you ask, “How did we get here?” the ethical, responsible answer for you to discuss should be white supremacy, not Cubans in Miami (who incidentally are majority WHITE anyway). You must be more responsible about your rhetoric and the conclusions you make and share with the world. Thousands of listeners rely on your discourse to inform their sociopolitical perspective, and it’s about damn time that you start talking plainly and DIRECTLY about the role of white supremacy in elections/politics and the damage that white voters are inflicting on oppressed people. As a queer BIPOC who spent years waiting for something more from your podcast, I am beyond disappointed that you have not done more to address the powerful systemic racism that DIRECTLY affects the state of our politics. I guess this is what you get when the voice of the podcast is only cis white men. This was the last straw for me. I can no longer subscribe to your podcast in good conscience. For the sake of oppressed people everywhere, DO BETTER.

I live in the middle of Trump country in upstate NY and I want to scream from the roof tops how many Trump flags and signs I see outside of old broken houses and run down trailers. They're everywhere. These types of people don't always have access to internet or trust media/strangers/ anyone they perceive as city or corporate type... @Richard Rydlund An easily transmissible, novel virus (i.e. no one in the population has immunity) doesn’t have to have a high case fatality rate to cause a devastating number of deaths and a health-system-crushing number of hospitalizations. And there are lots of people living with chronic health conditions that can be lived with for many years with good care - so just because a person may have high blood pressure and diabetes (for example) doesn’t mean they were at imminent risk of death - if covid kills them 10 or more years earlier than they would otherwise have died that is a huge loss to them and the people who love them. And even for those very elderly or very unwell people who may not have had much time left - dying because you suddenly can’t breath normally is not a nice way to go. Don’t underestimate Covid.

I haven't read it but awesome tip. worth bearing in mind Trump actually has a non trivial global cult going - Im an Aussie/UK dual citizen and my spouse + all my friends have some contingent of their extended family here in Australia where they have an ongoing problem cause of difference in opinion on Trump. for me it started in early 09 - one of the people who now tells me how kind and humble Trump is said the following joke to 2009 me , who didnt yet follow USA politics - " Whats the difference between Obama and God? ..... God doesn't think he's Obama!!!" to this person the free mason, secret gay, muslim, kenyan, saudi, NWO,socialist, deep state anti christ stuff all existed simultaneously with stuff about michelle too awful to even mention and now the reverse is happening to clean up Trumps reputation its saying something great about Dem candidates when conspiracy theories about sorcery and child abuse are needed to be able to impugn them and by contrast conspiracy theories about secret acts of kindness and being humble behind closed doors are needed to make Trump seem at all decent.

Maybe people are just tired of these constantly made polls, for years there hasn‘t a day gone by with some new numbers popping up about this performance or that. In Europe, politicians work and after a while you see the results. If you don‘t like the result, you vote them out. No constant polling required. Only very shortly before elections you‘ll see some, but not from every news outlet that has 3 watchers/readers....

Thank you for reiterating that putting money in Texas makes a difference! As a Texas democrat, I'm so sick of people writing Texas off as a lost cause. As one of the voters we texted said "Texas is a blue state fighting voter suppression." Is it depressing that we pour hours of our time into trying to flip the state to only move the state 3 points? Absolutely. But if democrats stop putting money into the state now, all of that work will be lost. Here's to a Blue Texas in 2024, so we can kick Ted Cruz out of the Senate!

1: Mistakes Obama made that Biden won't/ can't make: - Obama made the common young democratic intelligence mistake: assume facts are convincing and self-evident without explanation, talks and diplomacy. - Obamas second mistake was not calling racial discrimination what the party of mostly old, mostly white and mostly men did to him. This is a mistake black intelligent people sometimes make: They want to be taken on their own merits alone - the way it should be in a just and fair society. Which none of us are. We need to call out any systemic discrimination of any kind! Even if haters tell you: "you're playing the race card" by calling racial/ colour of skin discrimination what it is. You are not "playing the race card" - you are stating facts, helping others, too, and your changing society. As you should. 2: Advantages Biden has in this situation over Obama: - Biden is himself an old white man. He has seen tons more history than Obama had at that point. He changed his views and said so (presidential debate: reforms that led to many more black people incarcerated "were a mistake". That takes insight, change of mind and courage). - Biden is known to have worked across party-lines. He was friends with McCain who also worked pragmatically across party-lines. Biden won't stop doing so now. 3: Differences to 2016 within Republican party: - McConnell and Lindsey don't have to placate Trump any more. - They will try to racially discriminate against VP Harris. But they can't against Biden. - Lincoln Project, Republicans for the Rule of Law and maybe Republicans against Trump/ for Biden will continue with their work. They let the Republican party know very forcefully (yep, money involved) that there's a whole lotta diversity among Republicans, too. The senate will ignore this at their own peril. 4: (Sigh): - If Biden wins. (05.11.2020 05:25 MEZ) - Trump will try backseat driving the presidency via Twitter. Should be annoying. Let's see what Twitter does. - Senate seats are up for grabs in two years. Get to work! - And please: try to keep the House ... Thank you very much from Europe! Stay safe!

How the hell do you get back to any sort of consensus in a country where you have a HUGE percentage of Americans who voted for the other guy is ready to to generalize 69 MILLION PEOPLE.
