Thank you for actually making a solid clear video, we all have tried to get through the bad ones. Great work!

No problem. I appreciate the positive feedback.

I did the first oil change on my 23 yesterday. Watched lots of vids first. When I pulled the drain plug the oil flows right into the side of the trans cooler making a nice fan shape oil spray. I guess that cooler was relocated on 23s. Thanks for the vid and nice truck.

I hope everything other than the spray went well for you. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments.

Don't forget flood mode After oil change, hold gas pedal to floor and turn engine over, it will not crank until you let off the gas pedal and vehicle is up to 60 or 70 percent oil pressure on guage when I release the pedal

Hey Steve, Pretty straight forward oil change. It sure seems like a small filter for that big engine! I guess the engineers know what they are doing :) Is there no crush washer on the fill plug? I change the crush washer on my motorcycles every oil change. [Edit: Or did you use a new drain plug?] Also, which lightbar is that on yr bumper and do you like it and recommend it? I searched your video catalog and found nothing. I just bought a 2023 F250/7.3L Godzilla Lariat/FX4 2x Battery 2x Alternator. And want to add a Lightbar to the bumper as you have.

It’s more of a gasket rather than a crush washer on the drain plug. It looked good so I didn’t see any need to replace it. I can’t recall the brand of the light bar. I went with something a little pricey because I didn’t want the cheapest option on the market. I wanted something with a warranty. I also went with the curved option. They weren’t making any brackets specifically for the f-250 at the time I installed mine. I bought some Zroadz brackets for a different truck and modified them to fit. I also hooked it up to one of the upfitter switches. The light works great and comes in handy quite a lot.

You made an absolute mess of that new filter 😮

Yes I did. I usually wouldn't be trying to do the filling of the filter while I was under the truck but I was trying to get it all on camera.

I have a 21' 7.3l. I wish they'd have put the oil drain plug at the bottom of the pan 90 degrees to the ground so the oil flowed straight down. Guessing where the initial gush of oil will go can sometimes be a challenge. I had a Fomoto plug on my last truck; looks like I'll be getting one for this one. I do the same thing as Lyle with the gas pedal to get the oil flowing.

Ez drain plug

Thanks for the comment. I’ll look into that Fomoto plug.

Thanks for the video. You mentioned putting 20w-50 in but when you filled with oil it looked like 5w-30 on the container. 🤷🏻♂️
@STEVEHADDOCK Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. If I said 20w-50 then I misspoke. I used 5w-30.

Think I'll take mine into a quick lube or Ford for an oil change so I got a record incase that motor craps out

Sounds like a good idea.

That's a surprisingly small oil filter for 8qts. I'd look for a taller one
@STEVEHADDOCK Жыл бұрын
I figured I would just go with what the Ford engineers had come up with.

You don't need to prefill the oil filter
@STEVEHADDOCK2 жыл бұрын
I would agree that you don’t “need” to fill the filter. But I have always done it that way because that’s the way it was taught to me. And it does have its benefits, it helps keep dry pockets out of the system and the extra oil on the seal ring helps the ring to seal nicely and keep it from sticking when it’s removed on the next change.

How many miles do you put on a change and why did you use high mileage. When I did mine I made a mess it comes out a long ways. 👍
@STEVEHADDOCK2 жыл бұрын
You definitely have to be prepared for it. It does spew out quite a ways. The larger oil catch can helps a lot. I usually do around 6-8 thousand miles between changes. They recommend 10,000 but I don’t like waiting that long. The “high mileage” is the only fully synthetic Valvoline I could find. Seems to be more of a marketing thing than anything else, but I used it on my last few vehicles and it seems to do well.

@@STEVEHADDOCK I go 4 to 5 k on mine l know that's early but there is probably more time on mine. I have had it just over one year now and only 8k. No problems so far love my truck.
