Today I did the second oil change on our 2020 Ford F250. I ended up checking again later in the day after it had more time to settle and added an additional 1/2 quart. For a total of 8 quarts.

I like the fact that the drain plug and oil filter on the 7.3 are close enough to each other you can pull them at the same time and have them drain into the same pan!

I remember when you could get that shell Rotella gas truck oil cheap. I should have bought some when it was cheap because I have 4 auto part stores in my town and the shell Rotella 5W-30 5 quart jug is a whopping $42.99. That's tied with the most expensive one around me and the other is royal purple.

Everything is conveniently placed. Well done Ford. How would you compare the 7.3 to the older V10? Thanks for the video. Its been years since I have done my own oil changes, but this gives me the want to, to start again. It helps that the filter is easy to get to. Well, yesterday we had to pick up some horses in Massachusetts. My plan was take the first load with the excursion, and the second with the 7.3. I planned to fill up before and after each load to get a comparison. Hooked up and realized i only had to go 8 miles away lol so i just did it all with the excursion. I really do like the v10 it has been super reliable and tows well, But the 7.3 is a huge upgrade especially with the 10 speed. Its hard to even consider them as a direct comparison. I did the first oil change on mine myself prior to our -40c winters. The truck only had about 4000 miles at the time. I noticed that the filter on the engine from the factory, was different than the Motorcraft one I had from Ford, which was the correct once based on my research. I'm assuming it could just be slightly different, hopefully higher quality from the factory to help collect extra debry from break-in. I purchased a Motorcraft one and a Wix one at the same time, and as you mentioned I believe they're the same. If I remember correctly, Ford recommends running 0W30 in extreme cold enviroments, so that's what I'll be doing this winter. I'm planning on keeping this truck for 10 years, so we'll see how it lasts lol.
@HillsideAcres
@HillsideAcres 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what -40c is in f. but if youre going to be running 0w30 it sounds cold! this winter ill have the new shop set up, wont be fully heated but will maintain a reasonable temp in there. Mine also has a block heater from the factory.

@HillsideAcres
@HillsideAcres 3 жыл бұрын
Ive decided to do the changes at every 5,000 miles. I dont put a lot of miles so this should work out well. Ive always been bad about rotating tires on my trucks lol. Few reasons, 350 raises gvw, I have three trailers at 16k the 250 is 10k puts me At 26k 1 pound short of a class a cdl. Take a look at the trucks on the lots, there is not much to chose from. And the only difference is adding a leaf spring and different rear ended. I could always add bags which would do a lot more than the extra spring. The 3.55 rear suits me well for my needs.
