YES!!!! Pre Fill your OIL FILTER! Or, use the FLOOD MODE B4 you Start the Engine to "PRE FILL" The OIL Filter before actually Starting the ENGINE and Running it LIVE.

Great video I changed my oil at 2k had 2 free at ford I upgraded to ford synthetic it was 40 bucks. Your right about time to change but I'm retired so it gave me something to do. I did the first one myself very easy no jack or ramps. No issues so far.

it has been preached to me by the dealer that the first oil change( break in period) should be done at 1000 miles

Rule of thumb: if you can prefill without making a mess, then yes. Simple

we have the same Truck on order, by 5000 it will have had 3 oil changes 1st 500 2nd 2500 3rd 5000 by that point with Full Synthetic , also every 2500 new filter ,5000 new oil and filter..would love to see Ford releases a pan that has 2 filter mounts...for 7.3 and prefill every time...Since this engine has under piston oil cooling we will be going with either valvolene or castrol full Synthetic as both have Great film Strength compared to others.. same motorcraft filter..as we like the bypass in the motorcraft filter better than others..

That will be kind of cool... Maybe amsoil has a dual filter for it 🤔

@@DS-TRUCKS , we looked into Remote Filters, but the engines oil pump isn't designed for the increased resistance of the hoses for the oil to travel to and from the remote filter base, most likely could void the warranty, but if Ford came out with a Dual filter oil Pan, twice a filtration media and still have warranty, no difference for the pump...Hopefully Ford offers this..bolt on upgrade...

I always prefill the filter if it’s somewhat vertical because you’ll build oil pressure that much quicker, so why not!

Nice job. I always have a rag with me to wipe off filter so I can use my hand to tighten it. When I get my F550 7.3, I will start using Penzoil and let you know if something bad happens.

I prefill my filter also, but not sure why cause I never prefill one before. Most of the time the Walmart is out of Motorcraft oil so mine has been getting Pennzoil Platinum every 5000 miles. I will be getting some oil analysis kits also.

Lol. "Ford recommends" use inferior oil so they can sell you another one sooner... I use full synthetic cause it's BETTER!!! To each their own, though. Nice truck. My Godzilla got Ams ss @ 1k, 8k. M1 @16k, 24k. 1 year intervals after the initial switch @ 1k. Have 4q of M1 leftover and may or may not use that on next change. Been hearing good things about Valvoline and Penzoil ultra platinum. I ALWAYS PREFILL. Try it and you'll be shocked at the amount of oil it sucks up. Meaning, fill it, wait, fill it again, wait. Don't need it completely full. It can get a bit messy if you're not careful. So, just be careful filling it. Best reason for doing prefill is to get accurate dipstick readings as that filter WILL take a quart of oil.

I run Kendall GT1 max 5W30 full synthetic in my 7.3. The bottle looks the same as the motorcraft and it meets the specifications. And it’s 50 bucks a case. I would recommend that oil to anyone.

I never prefill. The oil housing is post-filter, so anything that goes in there goes straight into the engine without filtration. Just pull the crank sensor and crank the engine over for about 15 seconds after putting a dry filter on. Plug the sensor back in and let her roll.

Semi-synthetic is a scam. Zero regulation on what “semi” means, so what you get can be only 10% synthetic at twice the price of regular oil. They recommend it because its clearly the most profitable oil in the lineup, by a huge margin.
@petejansen7220
@petejansen7220 Жыл бұрын
Be careful changing to a higher viscosity oil! The oil gallery’s that go to the top end (cam lifters roller push rods rockers etc) are designed specifically for that engine to take a particular viscosity , by going to a thicker oil( higher viscosity) will delay the oil getting to the top of the engine valve train when the engine first is started at initial warm up. You could very well make matters worse by using a higher viscosity by starving the the valve train with oil on start up. A good full synthetic like Amsoil for example ,would give you quicker flow to your valve train ( the problem area with the 7.3 Godzilla)because synthetic oils flow better and faster ,especially when it’s cold, and have far better friction capabilities and additive package then an OEM oil.

A recommendation: stick with the synthetic blend with the recommended weight as your owners manual says. I tried fancy once with full synthetic, not worth it. I torn apart a few of these ford engines and what I ended up finding out to cause my own issues such as timing guides hydraulic tensioners prematurely failing or loss of tension. Just use what the Ford Engineering dept says to put in it. However I would change it no more than 5k mile interval.
@petejansen7220
@petejansen7220 Жыл бұрын
Oh wow! Just trying to understand what you are saying. I’m not trying to be a jerk asking this! Are you saying the tensioners and timing guides are not compatible with full synthetic oil therefore deteriorating the material the tensioner is made of and destroying them? The tensioners are set by oil pressure are they not,so that would mean there is a oil pressure problem then …..and then in turn destroying them because of low tension…. Or am I missing something? I totally agree with you if using the OEM oil …..5000 mile min. For Oil changes for sure! And in my opinion ,if the vehicle is used a quit a bit for towing,snow plowing ,or short trip driving( like a common drive is less then 20 min.) or alot of hard aggressive full throttle driving then maybe 3500 miles and definitely no more then 6 months time before changing oil
