I was thinking to get the 29er version, but that’s because I also plan to use this bike as a commuter, as well as ride laps in the local park and explore the trail near me. But after seeing this version, I’d also consider the 27.5. Yes it’ll be much slower on pavement, but that’s where a good slick tire comes into play!

If Fathom is entry level bike what about Talon 1 , ATX other lower models , are they really mountain bike ?
@MossieRidesBikes4 жыл бұрын
The talon would be imo the first true entry level mountain bike. I consider the fathom one of the best bang for the bucks only because you get all the modern goodies at that price point. Like the air fork, 1x12, tubeless, and so on. The atx is not a bad bike by any means but it is more for someone that is going to ride around the neighborhood and maybe go on a few easy MTB trails. When the atx first came out they even called it a "trail" bike and the talon was the first MTB in the lineup. That made it a little confusing which is why it's not called that anymore😂

Personally, I felt like I should stay under 1000 buying a hardtail. Vitus Nucleus was available at the time (sold out currently) 4 models both wheel sized 27.5 and 29 under 900 with a front air shock. Over 1000 I figured might as well save up a bit more to around 1500-1800 and look into decent full suspension bikes. There I considered Marin Hawkhill and Riftzone 130/130 or Diamondbacks Release 1 150/130 (which falls into this price point only with DBs corporate discount - google how to get it). Ultimately bought the Diamondback which came with a dropper post that wasnt listed in the description. I mean if youre saving up 1200 why not save up $600 more (even if you have to wait a couple months more) to get a solid full sus bike? At least thats my theory.

You are right near my height and I have a 32 inch inseam for reference. A few years ago Giant actually had a sizing chart that I always laughed at because it stated they didn't have a bike for someone my height with 32 inch inseam.😂 I'm honestly in between a Medium and a large. I always prefer riding a large because I enjoy the stretched out fit. To me, it's all about the top tube length. I'd definitely try and ride both sizes at the proper saddle height and see which one feels better
@azaman26044 жыл бұрын
@@MossieRidesBikes hey thanks for the quick reply! im also leaning towards the large based on the 29er fathom 2 that i sat on, my inseam is ard 31.5 inch. the feel of the bike seems fine to me. i understd the 29er head tube is XC oriented but the large 250b was in the box and not yet assembled to me to try .the M 650b wihich was available to try fits like my previous enduro but also sometimes i feel the cockpit is a lil tight at times but that was years back and a diff geometry. not having sat on the large 650b yet, my main concern is if the dropper post extended with the seat post fully inserted into the seat tube is too tall for me. seeing the frame, i imagine the post may not go in the tube as much as i can see 2 rivets for the bottle cage that will stop it going through further down.
@MossieRidesBikes4 жыл бұрын
You are correct. You can always go with a different size dropper if you prefer the larger bike but that causes other headaches as well. With my "in between-ness" Ive always had to modify the bikes from stock to make them fit to my liking. But that is also in part because I'm picky 😂

Is this the 2019 fusion 30? If so, it looks like the drive train on that bike is relatively cheap at the altus level. The 2019 talon 1 came with deore and tubeless wheels which is a big plus in my book. Let me know if that helps!

Is this considered to be a trail bike or an xc?

could you review the GT Avalanche Elite 20?
@MossieRidesBikes4 жыл бұрын
GT is very low on inventory at the moment and I don't have access to that specific bike or I would. The only GT I have coming at the moment is the base model Sensor

What about the trek marlin 5?
@MossieRidesBikes4 жыл бұрын
I would compare the Marlin 5 to the Giant Talon 3. They are the same price point and the only real difference is the talon is an 8 speed bike and the trek is a 7 speed. Although the giant is a better value, 8 speed stuff is so in expensive that I would go with whichever one you liked the color of better or whichever bike shop treats you better😄

Cube Reaction TM 2020 is so much better compared to this! Dunno if you guys can order it in the US Edit : in Germany it's 1100
@meancheeto4 жыл бұрын
I agree. Cube makes quality cycles. I was looking at the 2020 Cube Acid but ended up getting a 2018 Bulls King Cobra to save me €200
