We review the new Hyundai Palisade. Much like the Kia Telluride, both companies offer some of the best comfort in the SUV world with great features. However, there are definitely negatives regardless of the affordable price point. The question is do they offer the same luxury as BMW, Lexus, Mercedes and Audi or it is just a fake attempt?

I ordered an SX model of the telluride, and will have to wait a total of 8 weeks to get the trim/exterior and interior combo I want. Sorry, but the Palisade front end and lights are over done and looks like a much more feminine wagon. The Telluride looks masculine, aggressive and so much more distinctive in comparison, especially the SX trim with the amber running that really stand out. You can spot a Telluride a mile away, which few current models SUV make that claim. The Telluride looks are already Iconic, KIA's design will stand the test of time , while the Palisade not so much.

Harvey Morgan, not sure if you’re joking or if you’re serious. But no, that had no anti-Semitic implication. I use the term “shekels” loosely for money since it’s been around since the time of Babylonia. Since this is a Hyundai I could have said “Won”, but I don’t think people would have got the underlying joke and it would come off as flat. Yes, I could say dollars. But where’s the fun in that? And yes... we all know Mark is smart enough to NOT be paid in Euros or Pounds so we can’t use those. But Mark is of the right mind and boushie enough to be paid in Swiss Franc’s. But the SUV is a Hyundai and not a European luxury SUV, so I also think using Franc’s as a joke would fall flat. So considering everything mentioned above, I went with the old school Shekel. Not for any Jewish implication, and yes I know Israel uses it as their currency. But I use it more for the historical value of the term. Kinda long winded explanation. But no. There is no anti-Semitic implications in my comment.

Good, honest review. There's a reason why Genesis, Kia, Hyundai have finished 1,2,3 in initial quality. There's also a reason why they've surpassed Ford, Mazda and VW in 3 year reliability. We drove them all - Atlas, XC90, Explorer, Highlander, Durango, Pilot, Blazer, Traverse, Enclave, CX-9, Ascent and yes even the Telluride. Other than the XC90 for $65K nothing can come close to the Palisade in interior fit, finish, quality, tech and amenities. The 5yr/60K warranty make these a worry-free ownership experience. We paid $45K for our Limited out the door after rebates and can't wait to see what the Genesis version of this vehicle becomes. Hoping for a TT V6 with even more amenities. Anyone that's driven all of these vehicles above already knows how good this vehicle is. That's why Car and Driver, Edmunds, Motor Trend and more are picking the Telluride or Hyundai #1 in head to head tests.

Holy SMOKE. Here in Australia they're perhaps one of the worst dealerships in existence. Don't want to acknowledge warranty issues, takes forever to get parts, they honestly never want to see you again once you buy it. People have troubles with some of the smaller ones, and they try the blame game then try to ignore it because once they write something on a form, they have acknowledged it then have to fix it.

Being encouraged to do shit like that, in (insert literally any year after the Regan administration) is why I just walked out one day and never came back when I was working at one. I was trying to elevate the way that I treated people over their standards and got nothing but shit for it. We'd have meetings and the GM would be talking up "hey, we beat Lexus in this quality metric" and I'd just be sitting there thinking to myself that this guy had _CLEARLY_ never shopped for a Lexus because nobody gives a shit about those awards. The dealer experience and after-sale service is huge. They didn't have that going for them. Their shop looked like it was still the 90s and their showroom hadn't been updated since they got the building from a Toyota dealer in like '01. It was awful.

The only Stinger that I would say is a bit overpriced is the GTS, but if you're considering anything other than that one, you should be able to scrape up a pretty good deal, assuming your Kia dealer isn't one of the trashier ones that apparently exist. I'm thankful that my Kia experience so far has been superb. And I only had to go to one spot to feel good about my purchase details and I have the top trim Stinger (MSRP $52k) for $41K... $41K for a car that is far better equipped and fun than the best from Nissan and Toyota's $43K+ full-size sedans; and on par in performance and features with some luxury brands as well. In my opinion, even if you paid MSRP, the Stinger is priced fairly.

First time I went to a Hyundai dealer the salesman was completely useless and put in no effort to figure out what I wanted. Then I went to Kia dealer in the same area and another horrible experience, this time coupled with slimy sales tactics. I assumed my area was just badly managed, then I moved to another state to find the same situation at another 4 dealers. It's almost strange how consistently bad they are. At the time I was looking seriously at a Veloster N but they were all marked up, some by $5000, ha! One salesman said "oh we usually don't start at MSRP, that's normal." Sure bud.. Eventually none of the marked up ones sold and they were now selling some just under MSRP, but at that point I'd already decided I couldn't let go of my desire to tinker and modify, so I bought something else of a similar configuration used and just approaching the end of its warranty, ripe and ready for me. So the dealership experience didn't directly make my decision but I definitely thought to myself "oh god I'd have to take my N to these morons for servicing?" I'm still glad that I won't need to go to a Hyundai dealer now, Veloster N is still a great car though.

I didn’t say they haven’t come a long way, but I’m not putting them in the same category as Audi or other luxury brands as of yet. As I said, this is just my opinion and you have a right to your own. Get over it.

Everyone is acting surprised that three out of four dealers give substandard. Do they feel this is unique to Hyundai & Kia. I have experienced bad service in sales and service in just about every automobile manufacturer. That’s just a fact of life . I bought a 2022 Palisade Calligraphy, received great service from the one dealer out of three. Love the car. Love the styling.

Very grateful for my local Kia dealerships then. Both of them have the friendliest service I've experienced at a dealer yet, both in the shop and in the sales department. They're not all bad; and don't let a potentially bad salesman lead you away from these great products. The more you buy the more money they get to work on their dealer problem !

You are correct about the dealer experience. I bought a 2018 Sonata Turbo, in the "finance" department the "finance guy" tried to sell me an extended warranty "because the turbo was not covered" under the 100K warranty. I asked if he was certain about this, at which point he said he was going to ask the service manager. He came back a few minutes later and confirmed that the turbo was not covered. I told him if that was the case I was not a buyer and walked out. Later that day I got frantic calls from the sales department telling me that there was a mistake and I should come back and close the deal. I had an "experience" with another dealer when purchasing my wife's Santa Fe in 2017 I forbade her from ever going back there. I live in Dallas area. It seems some of the Hyundai dealerships are operating like they did in a bygone era. The 2.0 Turbo Sonata is a great car.

I'll be looking at a 3 row for the next vehicle in the next year or so and after being a Subaru and Honda owner for a bit now was startled to find so many good reviews out there on the Telluride and the Palisade. I'd truly warmed up to the idea, but hearing about dealer experience issues is a huge detractor for me. I can put on my big boy pants and just deal with it, but man do I hate car buying in the best of cases so hearing it might be a battle hurts my heart.

My dad was shopping for a new 3-row SUV, and as someone who works in the industry (and used to work for Hyundai Motor America) we went to check out the Palisade. The experience at the dealership was pretty bad, and we finally did get to drive the Palisade but had to leave from the poor treatment from the sales person. My dad ended up getting a loaded VW Atlas - which didn't drive as well, but the dealership experience was very good. I agree with you that the biggest problem with the Palisade is the Hyundai dealer network. There are great Hyundai dealers out there, but there are far too many who don't care about the consumer experience.

In my market, Kia and Hyundai are extremely successful and the dealerships are plentiful and competitive. I've enjoyed excellent service from my Hyundai product and dealership. On the road I see these vehicle brands as much as any, with the possible exception of Homda and Toyota. But when I travel east of the Missouri River, I'm amazed at how few I see. Management could learn...

I just bought a Palisade Limited and we love it, we considered it over some others because of the Kia Optima I bought my son last summer which has been an excellent car. We were treated fantastically at both the Kia and Hyundai dealers we worked with (the Hyundai had many of the old GMC sales staff I have deal with for almost 20 years, one of whom had sold us our Yukon XL back in 2015).

I don't care about Bmw's 50-50 weight distribution and cross weight balance. The way I drive a family suv with my kids in the back, I won't feel a difference. I care that a bmw costs 80-90k, and an arm and a leg to fix after it's out of warranty. "elephant man"? That's just your opinion Jack. I don't find the Palisade particularly good looking, but I find the price very attractive, a very good value and compared to the rivals (Honda and toyota) a superior car. Highlander and Pilot look like they're from the past decade, while this is actual. Just my two cents. Btw, I'm a great fan of your reviews Mr Goose, I really consider your opinions on cars but I felt like you guys didn't take this one too serious.

I am in 100% agreement on the dealer network thing. I went to two different Hyundai and Kia dealers and I felt like I had to take a shower when I left. Yet when I visit an Infiniti or Audi dealer it’s a much, much more pleasant experience. I’m surprised that the Genesis brand doesn’t have its own network of concierge dealers. The dealerships are the weak link here. The best way to market the upper trim levels of the Palisade and the Telluride is to try to pull in those people that would normally want gravitate towards an Acura or Lexus dealership.

I can only speak from personal experience, but insofar as Hyundai is concerned, my dealership experience has always been positive. In 2007, I purchased a new Hyundai Sonata Limited in Chicago (which I still own and drive) and aside from the typical gripes about the high cost of dealer service and parts, which is pretty much universal across the various brands, I really can't complain. I bought a dealer demo that had 8,000 miles on the odometer with no haggling for almost $7,000 under MSRP, and other than a minor recall, and a crapped out AC compressor, it has been relatively trouble free. When I did have to bring it in for scheduled service or the replacement of standard wear and tear components such as brakes and shocks, the service was friendly, the work was excellent, and the wait time was minimal.

Sorry to hear about the dealer experience issues. I sold Luxury cars exclusively from 2000 to 2010. My CSI was always in the top 95+ percentage every year. Then luxury cars sales tanked like the rest of Obama’s economy. I moved to Hyundai, worked for Pugi in Downers Grove for the next 5 years until I retired form car sales. I was really impressed how they operated and the product Hyundai had really improved. Being someone who sold Luxury cars for so long, you all should listen to me. Pugi’s service after the sale was spectacular. They treated my customers like the Luxury stores I had previously worked for. I was selling so many people repeatedly it was crazy! I miss working for them ( Pugi ) but don’t miss all the long night hours and working every weekend.

Totally agree about the dealer networks being subpar. I went to the Audi dealership and test drove the q5, really classy first rate service. I then went to a Kia dealership to look at a Telluride and it was like I was being shuffled into a tilt-a-whirl ride at the local county fair. The sales guy really didn’t know jack shit about the car. Not well spoken, just not polished at all. I still wanted to buy and felt slightly obligated to do business with him because it was literally the only dealership that actually had one on the lot that I could test drive before ordering. I reached out to him telling him I’d like to order but had a couple questions, one of which was about the lousy 4-prong trailer outlet. It was clear he didn’t have a clue. I did my own research and then wanted to order but after being dicked around by him I walked away (he tried to force me into upgrading to the Prestige Package by telling me it was the only way I could get gray leather seats which is an outright lie). Luckily there was another dealership near to me that had a very responsive saleswoman. If she didn’t know the answer, she found out very quickly. Great communication and got the deal done. However, the dealership itself was less than desirable. Quite dingy, just nothing special. But hey, I got it ordered, feel good about the sales person whose gonna get the commission, and hopefully I won’t be taking it back to that dealership for many recalls. But yes, would be great it Kia invested a bit more into their dealer network because it is a big turnoff, especially to those of us who are first time Kia shoppers.

I am deciding between that and an Audi S4 and a couple of others. I actually only went to look near closing and a saleswoman recommended I come back the next day to test drive. She was with another client when I got there so I went on my drive with a different salesman. Both people were very accommodating and wonderful to work with. And the Stinger was awesome too!

The Kia and Hyundai dealer network is terrible. I went to look at a V6 Stinger when they came out and the dealer acted like I was tire kicking a $100,000 car. Needless to say I walked and bought car from another manufacturer around the same price point. However I purchased an 2018 Elantra GT Sport a little over a year ago and had an awesome experience at Hyundai of Kennesaw (in GA). They sold me the car at the price listed on Trucar with no hassle, and it was the lowest price for that model with a manual transmission.

Higher depreciation means higher lease payments. For finance, it means you’ll be more likely to be upside down on the loan if you don’t put enough money as a down payment or didn’t get a big enough discount. With that said, I always tell people: Almost every new car besides something like a Wrangler or Pick up truck will depreciate like mad regardless of brand. If you’re truly worried about the cost of depreciation you shouldn’t be looking at any new car, period.

Recently (2 wks ago) purchased a 2022 Palisade Calligraphy AWD: but there are still some areas for product improvement: add power folding exterior side mirrors, add sunglass holder in interior and add illumination for the overhead light buttons above driver and front passenger (the POI buttons are illuminated but the light buttons aren't, that's odd and an omission in form/function) and those rims on calligraphy trim are a bit 'loud', design something more classy the ones on current and previous Limited trim); and last but not least, consider adding hybrid powertrain as is offered on many other Hyundai products.

Am seriously considering this model for my next ride, you pointed out something which is vital in getting cars nowadays. Electronics, this might be a real pain when shit hits the fan. Had a very painful experience before with my old Kia, had the whole wiring harness changed but still didn't solve a jack. ECU is also now loaded with tons of coding unless the dealer network is able to get their acts together on driving this forward. I would think getting another Korean might be a concern for me.
