@@feelthaflo82 Hey, as tempting as it is, I don't want every video to become a comparison to my bike. I like to test ride other bikes and just talk about them and what makes them good and/or bad. Had mine two months and 2000 miles. Engine pulls strongly right across the rev range. Gearbox extremely precise. Superlight slipper assist clutch. Very light, accurate handling - helped by mass centralisation. Comfortable seat and riding position (very slight lean forward). Strong brakes. Dash extremely clear and informative. Proper, direct riding experience with a bit of raw edge that keeps you connected and involved. Kawasaki have got this one right.

If you push and hold the right button, the TFT will go inverse and be even better to see in the daytime. Also, you can turn the flashing off for gear indication. They set it at 4k RPM because that's what they recommend to stay below for the first phase of break-in. (but you can also set it to flash at whichever rev you want)

The only reason I mentioned price is because it's £350 less than the CB650R in this country, which has far superior suspension, brakes and about 20bhp more. It's not a bad bike but in a sector with the MT07 and the SV650 (which is cheaper) I feel the Z650 might get overlooked.

My driving school has a pre-facelift Z650. Coming from a CB125R I was surprised how much louder it is and it showed me how bad 125cc bikes actually sound... But the ca. 60 minutes of driving I've done with it have left a good impression. Though I needed a couple of minutes to get used to my bike afterwards. When I got on my CB125 afterwards I almost thought something was broken (the clutch on it grips unbelievably late, compared to the Z650), because it wouldn't move despite me twisting the throttle, then I realized that the clutch on my bike is completely different.

I would suggest a little bigger windscreen for this bike because the stock one doesn't provide good wind protection at speeds higher than 100km/h. Mine is a 2019 tourer version and it's surely a nice bike. Nothing much but it is a good choice for new riders. If you're taller than 182cm and if you ride long distances you should go for a bigger bike. Sometimes I feel fatigue in lower legs becasue of such tight ergonomic.

John Innes I was also considering the Suzuki SV 650 but this Kawasaki Z650 looks great and the tft is very nice. Here in SW France the SV 650 is a little cheaper than the Kawasaki and the Yamaha Mt 07. The Honda CB650R is a fair bit more expensive. The SV 650 is a little heavier and perhaps needs an update although a lot people still love the traditional styling of the SV. I own the sv650x with OEM SV650 handlebars. I've had lessons in both the CB650R and z650. I by far prefer the sv650x. The z650 feels a little bit smaller & cramped. I'm 184cm. For some reason the grip on the z650 feels worse as well and a bit of a spongy suspension. The clutch on the z650 is phenomenal though. Just perfect. Engine sound is somewhat boring. Low speed maneuvers are great on this machine, except for the snatchy on-off throttle The CB650R is overall a great bike. It's just that the clutch is a little heavier and the powerband comes a little bit later in the RPM's. It feels very planted in corners and at the same time agile. The cb650r is a little more boring as in, you can't fully push the bike & feel extremely confident doing so. Although that online 4 exhaust note is very nice. Comfort is amazing. Low speed maneuvers are a little harder. The sv650x has a low down powerful pull, very nice engine sound even with OEM exhaust. Feels planted in corners and has that goldilock zone of street cornering comfort. Soft suspension in a good way and the powerband seems to pull all the way to 8500RPM. The sv650x is able to be pushed hard and you'll love it. It's just the right amount of power to become very confident with the bike & ride a little bit aggressive. Low speed maneuvers are a bit of a middle of the road between z650 & CB650R but the Low RPM assist works wonders for u turns and such.

Also im a little older then maybe the average new rider (30 years old) id also like to think i have decent throttle control. how would you compare the z400 to a z650? is it a big jump in power, and how does the z400 feel compared to the heavier z650? what i really want is an mt07, but prices here are kinda messed up and a used z650 is pretty cheap compared to the other 650 alternatives... i could get a used 2018 z650 with low milage for the same price as a new 2022/23 Z400, so thats also something i have to take into consideration

Nice review, thanks. I am in the market for a midweight naked and have just had a test ride on an MT-07, a bike you know well. But no comparison in this test? Spill the beans, which did you prefer? I really enjoyed my 1 hour ride on the MT, fantastic engine and balance etc, but hated the tiny cheap switchgear and the fact you had to look down away from the road to read the intruments because the panel is set so low. I couldn't even use the indicators in thick winter gloves without looking they are so small...How did the Z650 swtichgear compare here? Also some folks have said the Z650 is not for taller folks - how did you find the riding position, is it more cramped than the MT?

Hi biker Dan, I have a quick question, I notice most reviewers of this bike call it an entry level mid weight bike, and the question is, what makes it an entry level bike compared to other 650 motorbikes or any other cc for that matter. In my mind I class an entry level bike more like 300 To 400 cc. Now I know for any beginner motorcyclist getting a 1000cc isn't a wise choice. It just baffles me why the z650 is always classed as a beginner bike.

Hey nice video! What extra do you get with the performance model? I'm torn between this or the Ninja 650. Cheers!
@Elderlandwurm3 жыл бұрын
It's down to looks. If the Ninja 650 looks better to you get that. Everything else is almost exactly the same. Sit on both if you're not sure. I love my Z, but the looks are not for everyone. Dan comparing it to Marmite is spot on.

AWESOME REVIEW I LOVE KAWASAKI

At the start of your video you mentioned you hadn’t ridden a Kawasaki for over 10 years and then later on you refer to the induction roar that you’re used to on all the Kawasaki bikes you’ve owned! I’m sure the induction roar on a 2020 bike is somewhat different to a bike you rode over 10 years ago
@Englishbikerdan4 жыл бұрын
Not really. Kawasaki have always been known for their induction roar. I've owned 5 Kawasaki's and it's good to see they still have the same acoustic characteristics.

Maybe the Kawi Ninja 650? Know its about the same as the z but I wonder how different they might really be? Also like to see EBD review on the z900rs.

Hi Dan, been looking at the cb650r to buy. How have you found it long term? I’ve seen on some forums about rusting issues on the clamps. Is there any other faults you have found?

Great review Dan, that bike is really nice, sounds good and has a nice bike like to it. Love that dash. So clear even in sunlight. Do you think you could do review on the ninja 400? As that is the bike I am looking at for my first bike and would prefer you to tell us about it as your honest about every bike you ride. It’s either the ninja 400 or the KTM Duke 390 but haven’t made up my mind yet 🙂

Thank you. I only have one Kawasaki dealer near me and even then it's an hour and a half away. They don't have any Z400's on demo. Sadly I'm limited to bikes the dealer has in stock on their demo fleet. If they get one in at some point I'll test it though.

EnglishBikerDan awesome, that’s all good man. I’ve watched a few reviews on the z400 but I prefer your videos as I trust you more than others. It’s good to see some videos near me as I live just outside Bournemouth so I know all those roads you were on. If you do get a chance to get on the ninja then that would be great but I do understand that it’s up to the dealer and what they have. Keep up the good reviews man and il see you on the next one. 👍🏻

@@Dan_B_Rides Thanks, I had a hell of a time getting a dealer to agree to let me film a ride. Most just flat out said no. Never had that with most motorcycle dealerships. How does it compare to the CB650R? I'll be progressing to a friendly middleweight soon and the CB650R is my front runner at the moment (I have a CB125R currently) so would be great to see a comparison between the two. The TFT display is a clear advantage over the LCD on the CB650R however.
@Englishbikerdan4 жыл бұрын
The CB650R has a more premium feel to it overall. Better suspension and brakes and around 25bhp extra too. That's not to say the Z650 isn't good, it's just hard to overlook the CB650R in my country when it's only £350 more expensive than the Z650!

hi, racking my brains trying to decide between a RE Hunter and a Kawasaki Z650RS. like the price, looks and mpg of Hunter and wonder if the Kawasakis is £3k better? Will it be more reliable and better built? Im 62, just passed my test and will use the bike for some 12 mile commuting and the odd 60 mile journey into London via A roads. Slightly put off with Hunter servicing every 6 months, not sure if that would be an issue for you. As a beginner, would the Kawa be "too much"?. Obviously its all subjective but would value your advice. Ps the Z650rs is a looker as well and comes with 4 yr warranty.
