@@farmoboy83 Well, I was just like that before I bought the SV 650 as my first bike. I was looking at different bikes and the SV was cheap, but didn’t look as fancy as some other bikes, had slightly less power and weighed a few kilograms more. Therefore I almost omitted it. Thankfully I heard people say multiple times that it was a great beginner bike, so at some point I said I’ll give it a chance. Went for a 1.5 hour test ride and couldn’t stop grinning afterwards. After that my decision was clear. Never regretted it. Looking back now, I was stupid for forming an opinion without having ridden it in person. Learned a valuable lesson that day. Never will I buy a bike without going for a test ride first. And I will try to ride all the bikes in question to be able to make up a qualified opinion about them.

I got my self this bike in this colour back in April for my daily commute. I sold my Harley last year and was left with my Grom as my daily. I wanted one bike to to it all,didn't want the best middleweight money could buy has winter will kill the value. The SV is more than I could ever need for a commuting but can easily handle a 300-400 mile day should I get chance to get out around family commitments. I come from a background of some really high end bikes and used to race supermoto back in my late teens and early twenty's . This is my 1st Suzuki and its a great bike for the price,I can understand why new riders sway towards this machine. Its very friendly and forgiving and won't bite you if your a new rider. One thing i like the most is the lack of BS rider aids,it has ABS and that's it,no daft launch control or anti wheelie and so on just a basic straightforward classic styled street bike.

This is the bike I used during my obligatory training to get my license here in Norway. I had an MT-09 at home and this during driving school. It felt so small. and much more manuverable at 0-5 km/h because of the predictable clutch and the huge turning radius on the handlebars. My MT-09 was much more jerky and stiffer turning handlebars. Although the MT-09 felt much more solid when driving and leaning. Great beginner bike this SV650 though, very userfriendly amount of power IMO.

Love the way the bike looks. In my opinion it has a nice classic look to it and the trellis frame looks amazing. That being said, they bumped up the price for this year without updating the bike in the slightest. They should have gone with an upside down fork, led lights, and a comfier seat to say the least. Also they should do something about the weight, it weighs too much for such a small bike. If I had to buy one I'd get a used 2019-20 model with the four piston calipers.

My thoughts about this is that it would make a great commuter, good fuel economy, the narrow bars should make filtering easy, as well as the low RPM assist. Then the reliability of something so tried and tested that comes with a 3 year warranty gives a commuter some peace of mind. Plus it's not a slouch, so you can have a little bit of fun with the V twin on weekends. Those were the reasons I switched to an SV650 from a Triumph anyway. Interestingly its released as a 2022 model as well, I'd hoped for a refresh - LEDs all around, a bigger dash and USD forks like some gold KYBs would set this thing off!

I have the 2020 ABS, love the black, but this color combo is nice. I like the bike but hate the seat. MT-07 has better ergonomics for me, and the low-mid torque is better/smoother, but the suspension and brakes are definitely worse. This engine is more fun to rev and overall it feels more like a sport bike whereas the Yamaha feels like a standard that can wheelie really well. SV650 these days is an underrated and overlooked bike. This should be the last year for it before an all new 700cc parallel twin is released.

You know the thing is just today I was talking to my local Suzuki dealer about getting one of these bike's as my first bike purchase. And here English biker Dan is reviewing the very bike I'm looking at buying. I'm going to take this as a sign from above to get one. Now comes the fun part trying to locate one. With covid messing up everything along with the semiconductor shortage it's been almost impossible to get a Suzuki SV650 or a Yamaha MT 03 or a 07 or 09 or even the 10. And good luck finding a Honda CB650R. Yet I've been able to find a 2021 Kawasaki Z400, Z650 and even a Z900 without much issue. And don't even get me started on the Triumph Trident 660. Most of those bikes have been already bought up. According to the triumph dealer they won't have a Trident 660 for sale till probably January or February of 2022. It seems like all the awesome naked bikes that come to the United states are almost nonexistent right now. So if I can't get a SV650 but yet I can get a Z650 I might have to take what I can get at this point or wait another 6 months to a year to buy my first bike.

Have bike for two years. love it. I bought it to move around the city and with low width she is best. I'm 185 cm (6ft) and overweight (103kg). It is not too comfy for me but bought it to pass traffic and it works damn good. There are few disadvantages of it. First and BIGGEST is sound of chain tensioner on idle. After round 1600km she starts clicking, which make me crazy. And warranty service saying it’s ok. Second that dash is soft, it is easy to scratch surface :-( and missing ambient temp. and oil temp. And the smallest - that it is not teneree 700 :-). Very good review.

Whilst that Suzuki 650 V-Twin may not have the 'peak brochure' numbers of some other bikes in that capacity range, it more than makes up for it in character. It's smooth, progressive and doesn't care if you want to lean on the decent (for it's capacity) low down torque or bounce it off the rev limiter time and again. It just does what you want it to do with eagerness and enthusiasm whilst still not burning much fuel. A good example of 'brochure numbers' only tell part of the story. Plus it's almost bombproof with quite a few 'Weestroms' reaching some serious adventure kms without having to touch it. I have a real soft spot for that sweet little twin...

My 2017 3rd gen had 44k miles when I bought her last year June unfortunately she did at 55k in January due to me getting into a car accident:( but apart from that the bike was everything I wanted even with its 'high' millage she never let me down if you're considering id go for it always used to get complements on the sound and looks

Great video Dan, but I guess I'm one of the few riders who hated the current gen SV650. I had an AL6 model & it had a rock hard seat - I mean *serious* pain after an hour, a hopelessly feeble headlight and crashy, non-adjustable suspension. It cornered well enough though & the engine was a gem, but I found myself making excuses to take the car instead, so it it had to go.

This could unfortunately, be the last generation SV 650 that Suzuki brings out. There is strong speculation, that the next Suzuki 600cc class naked motorcycle will be a parallel twin. I think that would be a mistake, as they would be doing away with a V twin engine and adopting an engine configuration that Kawasaki and Yamaha already offer in the MT 07 and Z650.

Sad news if true.

Really intriguing if Suzuki just move to one engine design but with a turbo on for more powerful models though. Sort of like Yamaha and their incremental increase in number of cylinders. We'll still have 20 years worth of used SVs and V-Stroms if you fancy a V-twin!
@bobwreck37753 жыл бұрын
Thats why I think I am buying one soon and saving it as a gem not putting many miles on it. 75 years from now when I am 125 I can be happy about my choice.

Great review thanks. I think I’m going to get one. Passed my test 4 years ago and went down the CBR600F4i route then swapped for a 954 ‘blade which I love to bits but I’m only using a fraction of its power. The SV looks like bags of fun. Probably should have kept the 600 😳

If they modernize it a bit, LED all round, riding modes, upside down forks, tft screen, maybe increase cc a bit to 649 or something to increase torque low and mid, lighten the bike a few kilos and you got a winner.

I'm the happy owner of a 2018 SV650A. Wonderful bike. Unfortunately, here in Argentina the official Suzuki Motorcycles representative, La Emilia S.A. doesn't give any support to Suzuki's owners: there is not a single list of authorized dealers, no parts available... It's a shame Suzuki Global!
