This car so far has been an absolute joy to drive. Its a practical, no-nonsense vehicle and the CVT trans is SOOOOOOOOO smooth shifting! I'm averaging about 42-44 mpg putting 40 miles on the car daily for work.

​@@ryannnftw 9300 miles in and no problems! Its overkill, but I'm doing an oil change every 5000 miles since filters for this thing are only 8 bucks and it uses 5 qts of synthetic. The only problem I've run into is that the filters usually have to be bought online because the powertrain isnt common and most stores won't have the filters in stock.

My wife and I just got a 2020 yesterday. In the manual shifting mode the Trans is lightning fast for a CVT. I work at Honda of America and the cars we equip with a CVT feels sluggish, with a very noticeable latency between pulling the paddle to shift engage whereas the Rio is almost instant.

I had a 2004 KIA Rio for 13 years, (one owner before me, I got it in 2006). When I was deciding to buy a new car, I looked at the KIA Rio S 2020. I wasn't expecting too much, considering the old KIA could barely make it up hills. When you say "HUGE" improvement, you aren't kidding. I got my KIA Rio S in January 2020. I shortly after, moved across the country, which required I go over the mountains in CA. WHAT a difference from the 2004, struggling to get up those mountains. This thing is amazing, and with the Sport button, I can take off and get up to speed in seconds. I'm delighted with it.

I drove a 2020 Rio from LA to SF got 48mpg, except for the last part of the drive due to heavy crosswinds. The new "combo" Atkinson Otto cycle engine is amazing (read the press releases about the new trick valve timing technology). Both trim models have 7" screen and full Apple CarPlay compared to 2020 Accents which don't have it in the lower trim.

This car is better than 41 on the highway in real life (calculating at the pump, not center display). I had a Rio 1 year ago for a week with a 6 speed manual, and I calculated 40 mpgs average

I think it is a thoughtfully designed, good looking vehicle with a great small grill. The Rio is the anti-Toyota. No grill cancer.

I have a 2016 Kia Rio Hatchback with only 10,000 miles on it. I just use it for going back and forth to work. I am going to have the car appraised today so that I can trade it for a newer model. Hopefully, I can get the 2020 Hatchback. 😊

Edwin Stewart uh, legally in 16 cars needed to come with a back up camera. I do not need a car to stop for me. I can drive. Lower price, really well matched and slick manual is way better.

Bought one used (2020 automatic, not the S model) at 35k miles in January 2023. So far nothing to complain about. It does get a bit windswept in higher than average wind conditions, but any decent driver can compensate for that. Loving it so far

I just bought me a 2020 Kia Rio in January... I have the straight basic one.. I don’t have cruise control... and the price on it was $17,005 but I live in California so I’m not really tripping on the price.. but it’s a great car it is a real major upgrade from the other rio’s it’s great on gas I don’t pay as much as my old car and gas in Cali is high $21 dollars fill me up. I’m not too happy about some of the safety features, no automatic door locks when you put your car in gear. I don’t really like the seat adjustments, I prefer power seat but I’m getting used to it. Good back seat for small children not comfortable for adults. Other than that good job Kia on the 2019-2020 Rio

I still have the first year of the new rio (2012) with the 138 HP engine and true 6 speed auto. LX middle of the line model with 16 inch tires. Still drives like a new one. Friend, you drove a 2016 and didn't like it. What was there not to like? I say what's there to like to the Rio you drive? CVT? Be serious. Ext electric mirrors? I I have heated folding mirrors with turning lights embedded in it. Infotainement? I give that to your 2020. But I have 6 speakers, 2 in the front pillars for highs. My 2012 engine is fast on start up and doesn't roar when you push it hard. 138 HP, 123 torque, it shows. In 2012, Kia had the choice of 10 colors at least. Mine is metallic blue-mauve. I still love the Rio brand but older buyers like me know all options that are missing now that were available at the beginning. So I find your words "excuse for a car" a bit harsh and not much of the reality when you talk of the first years of the scnd Gen of Rios. But you have a big point with the mileage. Citywise, my Rio sucks but once on the highway, it easily make 30-33 mpg which is rathe reasonable. Anyway, better that than a CVT, IVT or whatever name one calls a CVT.

It's actually an IVT, a different version but very close to the same as a CVT.

I still have a soft spot for the Rio5 LX+ with the 6 speed manual transmission. I don't think they offer it in the US, but we can still get it in Canada - with standard heated seats and steering wheel! Is it fast? Hell naw. But you can toss it around and row the gears and have a blast without alerting the police to your levels of fun. Or breaking the bank. :D

Not on the US model Rio. Kia made the Rio monospec in the US. We only get the S trim. Canadian Rio models gets heated seats and heated steering wheel standard across the board.

the 18 is the same body style with the 6speed auto. buy that. an apple carplay head unit amp and speakers are a must. but the head units are getting cheaper every month. the stock speakers are trash as is the head unit.

How did the steering wheel feel given it is urethane and not leather wrapped? You should review the S Hatchback with LED headlights.

I just recently test-drove the 2020 Kia Rio..The steering-wheel feels just like it sounds "Plastic" compare to the leather one in my 2016 Kia Rio. 😏 However, the 2020 Kia Rio has a LOT more features than my 2016 model...And I mean a LOT!! 🤗

Weird thing is Suth Korea is so close to Australia and yet Kia is acting as a very unfriendly neighbour. Here in Australia they sell Kia Rio stripped off all tech and safety features you get in the US and Europe, charge extra for packs standard in Europe and US, cars come with dodgy 4 speed auto and poor power there is even a new Rio GT coming with tuned down engine! From tinny old junk they have now gone to the other end of the scale which is disappointing though because Australians use more cars than their population numbers would suggest.

I took a Rio with a 6 speed mt for a spin a year back and its a fun car with a good power to weight ratio, very reliable, and great on gas. And it actually feels premium compared to the price.

The new one Sucks. No more stick shift base model! That is what made it appealing. You could get it for $10000 range discounted. It moved better. Kia screwed up a fun engaging affordable car. Buy a nice low mileage 17 or earlier base model cheap with manual.
